So, ive sat the NCLEX and passed (hurrah!) am patiently waiting for my I 140 (WHERE IS IT HUH??) and im just wondering.. (probably should have asked before i signed agency contract but never mind!), just how different is the standard of living out there? you nurses who are already out there can you enlighten me a bit, is the cost of living more or less than in the uk? on a nurses salary are you doing ok? i ask this because i am a member of another forum which has a thread with some very negative posts on it about cost of living etc but the opinions are not those of nurses but those on buisiness visas. any information will be gladly recieved by myself and ive no doubt by others who are on the same trail.
thanks

I have just returned from a swift visit to USA to find house and meet up with nurse manager at the hospital I am going to work.
I found a beautiful 3 bed detatched house, 2.5 bathrooms and large garden with mountain views around 25 mins away from hospital cost $1200 no council tax. Petrol was very cheap compared to here. Expensive to buy a house in some areas.
I spoke to a girl called Julie who went to AZ with OGP two an a half years ago, she is now night supervisor and claims to be earning between $70,000-$80,000 a year and that she has never been so rich. She said once she finished her contract with OGP the doors opened and there was lots of opportunities.
This person was very helpful and informed me first hand of what to expect.

Which city did you find a house in?
Cost of living is definitely less than the UK. Especially for groceries. You pay in pounds, and we pay the same number for some things, but in dollars.
Gas, or petrol as you call it, is much cheaper.
In London, minimum for a cab ride is about $5 US, in the US, about $2. Fast food restaurants are the same number that you pay in pounds but in dollars. You do not need the expense of winter clothes if you are going to a warmer climate. No bone chilling cold like you can get winters in the UK.
Taxes are much less. Cable tv is less, and many more channels, over 400 with premium. High spped internet access is also much less.
