265 q's on NCLEX RN

I took my NCLEX RN exam today and went all the way to the end, 265 questions, 5 hours and 40 minutes. My brain is about to explode. I have no idea what to think, how to interpret this. I'm trying so hard to remember questions I had but I just can not. I am losing my mind!!!

Since you reached the end, know that you were riding the pass/fail bubble the whole time. Here's the thing about your situation: if your last ability estimate is above the pass line, you pass. If not, you fail. This is the instance where your last 60 questions are not graded. However, whether you pass or fail really depends upon the question or two before the last one because if those were at or above the line and you got those right, then that should put the last question at or above the line...

The only thing you can do is wait. Sure the PVT can be tried, but if you live in a QR state, it's often best to watch your state's license website and/or wait for the QR to become available and pay the $8 to find out if you passed or not. If you try the PVT, you easily could end up paying $200 only to actually pass and not be able to recover the money... or you get a "good result" on the PVT and find you failed later. It does happen both ways. That's why I'm suggesting patience in your case.

Good luck and I hope you passed.

Not necessarily riding the pass/fail line the whole time. Not sure if it's still the case, since I'm not nearly a decade outside of school, but when I took it some tests were randomly selected to go to the end regardless of score. The only people I remember talking to in person they went all the way passed.

Not any more. There is no random selection you describe to take all 265. (Or 205 for PN)This is specifically addressed in the NCSBN faq. The poster above is correct, going to 265 indicates how long it took the computer do determine pass/fail with statistical significance.

Thank you, I really hope I did as well. So basically what you're saying is that the end result depends on my last one or two questions? Does it depend on the type of question they were or if I got it right?

My friend took all 265 and passed. I was done in 75 questions and hate to wait for her as we rode together. She took almost every available minute. She also passed! Good luck

The rule is actually explained on the NCSBN website. The way I understand it, it depends upon the level of question being asked as to whether you pass or not rather than the answer of the question. Your answer to a previous question determines the level of question asked next. That's why I said the previous answer or two kind of determine the level of question your final question will be.

Please let us know how you did. So often people start these threads and we never hear from them again.

I was told that if your last questions were "easy" you probably failed. So if your last question was "How do you spell NURSE?" Yhen you probably failed. I'm sure you did fine. Yes please tell us how you did.

I took the nclex twice. I failed it the 1st time with 265 ?'s. I took it again on 12/31/14 with 265 ?'s again. Just found out yesterday that I passed. Just have faith and I'm rooting for you :-)
