I have experience with the Pyxis system, but none with Omnicell - who I understand is the biggest competition to Pyxis.
Could anyone who has experience with both systems comment on comparison and contrast?
Many thanks -

I've worked with both. Where I work, we use the Omnicell. Now, it depends on which Omnicell you're talking about also, because I've used two different types. The Omnicell that I used at another hospital wasn't that great because it didn't have the capacity that the one does where I work now.
However, the one that I work with now and the Pyxis that I used for clinicals were VERY similar. Overall though, I like the Omnicell better for some minor reasons. The biggest reason is the Omnicell has a middle drawer that can be used to dispense certain (usually very commonly used meds, such as morphine, Lortab, etc) meds one at a time, so that you don't have to do a countback EVERY time you do it! It just dispenses the one down into the drawer and pops right open!
Hope this helps!
P.S. Why are you asking? Did you have problems? Is your facility looking to make a change?
Actually, I have interviewed at two different facilities, one with Omnicell, one with Pyxis.
I've worked with Pyxis before (liked it just fine) - but was wondering if there were any pluses/minuses that would help with the employment situation.
Yeah, I know it's kind of "retentive" of me, but sometimes it's the little things that make all of the difference.
Thanks for your input!

I've worked with both. They are pretty similar. I work better with Omnicell, but that is what most of the facilities in my area have gone to - so I am probably just more used to it.

Just converted from Pyxis to Omnicell...no difference. Anything is better than waiting for pharmacy to deliver.

Having used both Pyxis and Omnicell, I would say that I prefer Pyxis. They have single drug access also and seem to have more drug interaction warnings that I didn't have with Omnicell. I never liked the small Pyxis screen but understand they just came out with a larger one that I have not seen.

I also prefer Pyxis because of the software capabilities that come with it.
