  1. Being a new grad RN is a tough market, especially when out of state. NYC has some great nursing schools, and they often do clinical at the hospitals that you'd probably want to apply to. Since these students are already accustomed to the hospitals and the staff, they would probably be chosen first. Why don't you get some experience in a field you are interested in in PA, and then come here to NYC? You'd have a much higher likelihood of finding a good job.
  2. do not give up. you will succeed if you believe in yourself.
  3. Be persistent. Show up in clinical, always offering to help. Introduce yourself to the floor managers. Get their contact information.
  4. Always allow yourself a day of rest. In between intense studying, of course!
  5. My board of nursing was very disrespectful to me, but that is just the nature of speaking to people who work in customer service oriented postions, including nursing. People are people everywhere.
  6. This post is very valid. Follow this advice.
  7. What is your probation for?
  8. I would pick option 1. Acute care experience is much more beneficial to gain experience for a psych np program.
  9. A nice neutral colored dress and short heels, or a business suit and classic button shirt under.
  10. I think my true calling is to be a stay at home wife and mom. But I am missing the husband and the kids!
  11. What is the most productive member of your team like and what can I do to be more like them?
  12. My first job out of nursing school was in an ICU. I do not think you should do either of those programs, as it will will take away from your focus. You should study pharmacology, ensure you know vent settings, make sure you know all of the medications ACLS mentions for the megacodes, cardiac drips, A-lines, try to know lab values, and re-read your nursing school books on cardiac and respiratory patho!
  13. I had the same scenario happen to me as a new RN. The nitpicking in nursing is just atrocious. If you found the error yourself and discontinued, and it was never given to the patient, medication returned to pharmacy, I do not understand the commotion.
  14. Hmm. I was precepted by a Psych CNS and it was one of my favorite precepting experiences.
  15. This is excellent information. Very useful. Thank you
  16. I really dislike the title Physician Extender, but I do not mind the term midlevel.
  17. This is something that has been on my mind as well. I am currently in NP school, and my friend graduated a few months ago and is looking for her first job. She was asked the same scenario. I will be following this thread.
  18. I'm in this program right now and it's excellent. I have been able to work fulltime throughout the program. Message me if you have any questions.
