  1. Thanks, It's not that I don't like it. I actually increased the salary based on what you guys said here. Just as a small business owner I'm trying my best to stay competitive without not being able to afford to keep them. I don't want to force people to see 3 or 4 people an hour. Both for their own sanity and for the quality of care of the patient. I also want to provide great insurance and benefits. I'm just really surprised based on what I'm seeing on the adds online. Are you getting $100 an hour plus full benefits and paid time off? How many patients are you expected to see an hour? Do you get paid for no-shows? Thanks for your input. Best,
  2. Hi Myelin, Yes I'm offering 5 weeks paid PTO , paid malpractice (I'm fine paying some licensing and dea too). I'm also offering 401K match valued up to 10k a year. I'm offering the best health insurance in the state and dental. When I look at glassdoor or other job ads for NP's They are not typically offering 150k. It's usually between 90 and 125K I found one ad for 155K. I don't understand the discrepancy between what you all are saying and what I'm finding online (And in my own experience as an NP in my area). As I mentioned to someone else, just 7 years ago I had to fight for $60 an hour somewhere with 5 years experience. https://www.glassdoor.com/Salaries/boston-psychiatric-nurse-practitioner-salary-SRCH_IL.0,6_IM109_KO7,37.htm
  3. That doesn't seem to match what people are reporting on glass door or what ads for NP jobs are offering. https://www.glassdoor.com/Salaries/boston-psychiatric-nurse-practitioner-salary-SRCH_IL.0,6_IM109_KO7,37.htm I was a new grad 12 years ago and wasn't offered anything like that. Even as an experienced NP after 5 years I had to fight for $60 an hour. My city is supposedly higher paying than most cities for NP so I'm confused about the discrepancy in what many are saying here and what I'm finding online (and in my own experience).
  4. Hi Thanks for your reply. I'm actually offering more bc I'm offering 5 weeks PTO and Simple Sep has a cap of 5,500 a year total so that is the most they could add to that a year. The 401K is not limited to that and my match goes up to close to 10K a year. plus health (best plan in the state) and dental paid mal practice and I'm fine paying for some CME and licenses. Also 5 weeks paid PTO. When I look at glassdoor and jobs that list pay on the forum for my area it does not match what you guys are saying. People are reporting the average base at 125k on glassdoor. and the ads I find that list salary most are lower than what I am offering. The highest I saw was 150k. These are big corporations with a lot of money. https://www.glassdoor.com/Salaries/boston-psychiatric-nurse-practitioner-salary-SRCH_IL.0,6_IM109_KO7,37.htm
  5. I'm trying to hire a psych NP or CNS at my practice and having a really hard time. I don't know if it's because what I'm offering doesn't seem high enough or there is something lacking in benefits. I would like to get people's feedback about what they felt was important when looking for a position. The position I'm offering is in the North East (I don't want to be specific because this is not a job post) I just want feedback. I'm offering 120-125K base plus commission (which could inc salary by as much as 20-30k a year). I'm offering the best health insurance in the state, dental, 401k with match after a year, flexible scheduling, direct deposit, employee assistant program, and an employee discounts program (for services, products, tickets etc). I'm asking for only 1 year experience although I'd consider a well trained person with 6 mo who needed some mentoring. What am I doing wrong here? I feel like this is a good offer. I provide, office, admin, technology, all software, malpractice, credentialing EHR, phone. Is there something specific that would sweeten this deal and make it more appealing? Also I'm only requiring them to see 2 patients an hour (or 1 new patient). No crazy and unsafe 3-4 patients an hour.. but still no dice. I've posted on linked in, indeed, and zip recruiter. I'm thinking about monster but it's like 300 bucks to post for a month and I did a trial search and found like 1-2 possible candidates and they last updated their resumes like 7-12 months ago. Plus I've already spent a good amount of money on these other job sites. Thanks! -D
  6. That's what I get for going to a fancy pants school, I wish I went somewhere else.
  7. The problem is I already have the correct degree. The ANCC says I have the correct degree to take the exam and all the course requirements, and event though I was trained to be a prescribing psych CNS and all my clinical hours are in providing therapy and prescribing and have been working doing that for almost 12 years somehow my clinical hours don't count even though they were were good enough to use for the NP exam before.. they just aren't anymore for whatever random reason that the ANCC made up
  8. EXACTLY! or at least have your school try to be supportive. I can understand and appreciate that there are some things they cannot do, but they seem to bask in the idea of being unhelpful... why did I pay $160K to be turned on when I need them to speak up for me. What problems specifically have you run into?
  9. the exam is retired, not your credentials. But in my case certain states will not recognize my psych CNS cert to prescribe. I was told I could take either the NP or the CNS exam because I was in a dual program. But now they say I can't take that exam anymore... it's so stupid.
  10. Yes but for Psych my program was dual and 500+ hours is still what is required to sit for the exam although I did a ton more than that and also I have worked as a prescribing CNS for 10 years. I did "aprn" hours. Not psych "CNS" hours. I'm in MA and they don't even have any experienced psych NP's because everyone is a CNS. it's complete garbage and I am considering a lawsuit against my school if they do not support me with the ANCC that my program was Dual and that my hours were completely in prescribing, diagnosing, and psychotherapy. It's absolutely ridiculous. I am furious.
  11. Yes, but if you did a dual program you are qualified to sit for an NP exam through ANCC. But for some reason it's the clinical hours they are saying are somehow different. If you saw patients providing psychotherapeutic services for all of your hours then you meet or exceed that requirement. I don't know any Psych CNS's who did more systems organization, teaching to hospital staff, or non-patient interaction work. I became a Psych CNS about 11 years ago. I did a dual program at Boston College (who by the way are also not helpful in this regard). Friend's of mine's schools are going to bat with them against the ANCC insisting that their hours were the same as NP hours. I could have sat for either exam at the time (NP or CNS). But somehow now my hours aren't NP hours. It's just plain BS if you ask me.
  12. ANCC is not recognizing our 500+ clinical hours as a Psych CNS's stating that maybe we did not preform "clinical" work for those hours and instead did some other type of managerial or organizational work, therefore they will not allow us to sit for the Psych NP exams despite meeting all the requirements. Even if you had a dual program and decided to sit for the CNS vs the NP exam (because it was the thing to do at the time) and even if you had hours in more than one modality as required, ANCC will give you a hard time saying that your hours don't count. It makes no sense and this is an unfair practice by the ANCC. If we as CNS's aren't able to take the same exam as the students we are supposedly fit to precept then we shouldn't precept them at all. Don't Precept Psych NP's until the ANCC makes changes to their policies. If their practice is so different then ours then nursing programs can go find all the experienced psych NP's out there to precept instead (aka NP's with less than 3 years experience).
  13. you are not too old.. I was 24 when I graduated but I was the youngest by far. Most people in my program were over 35 some in their 50's and 60's. There's no time like the present.
  14. I am an adult psych cns with 10 years experience. I was eligible to take either the adult psych NP or adult psych CNS exam at the time of my graduation per ANCC rules. I called the ANCC, despite what it says on their site they are willing to let me register for the Adult psych NP exam which will be retired at the end of the year. At the time I graduated, only advanced psychopharm was required to take the adult NP psych exam. Now for the same exam (no change) they want regular advanced pharm to take the exam. Given my experience and the test requirement at the time of my graduation I'm hoping the ANCC will waive this and allow me to take the exam. Has anyone else had experience doing this and did anyone have any problems? Also if I do need to take an advanced regular pharmacology course does anyone know any accredited self paced ones I could finish quickly in time to meet the deadline of sitting for the exam before the end of the year? Thanks. Thanks.
