  1. Hello jbarber37. I couldn't do the program from South Dakota State because Georgia wouldn't approve it unless it was a Georgia refresher program. What state do you live in?
  2. Hello everyone! It's been six months and I FINALLY have a Georgia LPN license as of February 10, 2017. I had to go around the world to get it, but it was worth it. If anyone has to do an LPN refresher program, I have the information you will need. They were the only ones in Georgia that I could find and that Georgia board of nursing would approve. I've already applied for a job and praying it will come through. My dreams have come true and to anyone who is considering retaking their test, go for the gusto and do it because it can be done!!!!
  3. Don't give up. I took it for the 4th time in 2004 and never thought about testing again. Well July 25, 2016 (twelve years later) I passed on the fifth time with 205 questions. I bought the Kaplan book and thousands of question apps. Praying also did it for me! Keep studying and praying and focus on the best answer to safe nursing.
  4. You are not a loser. I took the test SEVERAL times, but I didn't give up all though I sure wanted to. Keep your head up. God gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers. You are ready for the battle and you will win! Just stick with one study source, (Kaplan, uworld, etc) and one plan only. Sometimes, people use so many different study sources, you can't figure out what works and what doesn't. The last time I tested was 2004 and never even thought about testing again, and in April of this year (2016), I decided to retest and July 25, I passed. You can do it. I did a lot of NCLEX questions and the free Kaplan seminars and focused and did what I needed to do. Hope this helps to keep you motivated and encouraged. Blessings to you!
  5. Relax on Monday (no studying), eat a good breakfast on Tuesday morning and pray!
  6. Congrats on passing your NCLEX!! It's a great feeling!
  7. Congratulations!! Don't EVER give up or give in. What's for you is only for you!
  8. Bombchelle84lpn I have some questions about the SD State LPN refresher program? What is your email address if you don't mind? I graduated in 1999 but just passed my LPN text July 2016 and I am having a HARD time with getting all my ducks in a row. HELP!!
  9. You are NOT a failure. Take this as a learning experience and focus on becoming the BEST nurse you are going to be. Best of blessings on your new chapter in your life and the life you will pour into others!
  10. I too, passed my PN-NCLEX in July 2016 and I had 205 questions and around 30-35 SATA. I didn't know having all those SATA meant I was doing good! I just remembered I thought I had failed because I was getting all those type questions. I studied Kaplan and Saunders (a little bit) and mostly NCLEX style questions apps for my phone and iPad.
  11. I always remind my husband I didn't marry for money therefore, I studied and worked FULL TIME because I couldn't afford a leave of absence!!! It is doable, but it takes discipline to buckle down and study. Even though I had failed after several attempts, I studied more this last time and was focused and didn't have the distractions that kept me from passing before. I passed July 2016 and I definitely had a different mind set this time. I studied Kaplan and did their free online seminars and that really helped. I took the LPN NCLEX. GOOD LUCK and don't give up.
  12. Kaplan worked for me. Also they have free online seminars. I failed several times and finally passed July 2016. You can do it. I took it the last time in 2004 and never dreamed of retaking it again. I bought the Kaplan study guide and downloaded three NCLEX apps with a lot of questions and did those all the time and studied and retook the test and passed. Good luck and don't give up.
  13. Just a quick update. GA BON says I have to do an LPN refresher course before I work as a nurse since I've been out of school longer than fours years. There are only one or two LPN refresher courses in Georgia so I contacted South Dakota State University to do the online version and they've been very helpful. It's a LONG process and Georgia is so strict but it's for the better. My clinical plan and course outline was presented to Georgia and they emailed me to say the refresher course was presented on old forms so I contacted he lady who has been helping me at SDSU and she resent everything again on the correct forms so now we're playing the waiting game. I know I am ready to work as a nurse and these little stumbling blocks are only there to make me be a better nurse. Even though I waited so long to retest, I still don't regret it. It wasn't my time all those years ago. Right now is the right time. Good luck to to anyone else who may be going through the same thing. I will keep you all posted as to when I start my refresher course.
  14. I have lived in the Deep South ALL my life and it is sad this type of behavior still exists in 2016. It's unacceptable that the surgeon is referring to any ethnic group as BUCKWHEAT, but whatever racial slurs he may choose to say, doesn't matter, it's what YOU answer to is what matters. Choose what battles to fight and which ones to ignore.
  15. Beautiful! Even though I haven't had the privilege of working as a nurse yet, I can't imagine how you felt. You did not fail her, her daughter and physician did. Bless your soul.
  16. í ½í±. Thank you!
  17. Thank you for the encouragement. I am now enrolling in RN School to go further!!
  18. Thank you mloc_21. I am an LPN. Do not give up. Kaplan REALLY helped. I did Kaplan's free seminars online and answered THOUSANDS of practice questions. I downloaded the apps to my phone, iPad, and every spare second I had, I was studying. I also prayed and had other people praying for me too. This time I was prepared because I used the decision tree and broke the questions down to a yes or no and applied what I knew about what the question was asking. I used to over think and over analyze, but take those questions at face value and go for what you know. Which NCLEX are you taking? If I can help in any way I will be more than happy to.
  19. Oh my, where do I begin...... Let's see. The year was 1999 and I was fresh out of nursing school also to find out my husband and I were expecting our first baby. I loved my nursing school experience, loved my instructors, and my classmates. We were a family. The first time I took the NCLEX, I failed at 85 questions. I was devastated. I waited a few more months (still pregnant) and guess what, failed AGAIN, this time I made it to 121. I took it again in 2001, 2002, and for the last time in 2004 with 205 questions. I was so hurt and devastated and could not understand why all of my levels were near passing on my candidate report. Fast forward to April 2016. Going back to retake never crossed my mind, because I just gave up and said maybe I wasn't meant to be a nurse until one day, my supervisor (I've always worked in the healthcare system as a medical coder, pharmacy tech, office assistant, etc) said why don't you try to take your boards again. I said I just don't have the energy or the money to give NCLEX ANOTHER $200 to fail again, but I said maybe she sees something in me that I just can't see yet. Well that same night, I prayed about it and got online and registered with Pearsonvue and with the boards and said maybe this is my time. I went to Books a Million, got the Kaplan review book and started studying that night and was already see the changes I was doing wrong before and I ordered a Prioritization, Delegation and Assignment book and studied that religiously as well and downloaded several NCLEX style question apps. I just did that every single day and studied and prayed and prayed and studied. I originally scheduled my test for August 4 and felt like I could take it sooner. I took my exam July 25 with 205 questions, did the PVT when I got home and it worked!!!! I was still skeptical about that, so I waited until the next day around 9:00 and checked the website and all I saw was passed and I couldn't do anything at first but stare at the computer screen. Then I got up and jumped and cried and said FINALLY I am the nurse I should have been YEARS ago, but it just wasn't my time. I had positive people supporting me with prayers and encouraging me and I give Kaplan the credit for showing me that decision tree and how to break down the questions. Since I live in Georgia, I will have to take an LPN refresher course with 160 clinical hours and 40 course hours before I can get a job, but I am up for the challenge. I accomplished what I set out to do and that won't take long at all. I know this is a long post, but I feel it will encourage and inspire someone else who felt like giving up. I knew the content but I wasn't breaking down the questions into textbook nursing. Keep praying and keep trying. When it's your time, it will come! tlyte777
