  1. They do clinicals for Med/Surg classes at Christiana, Wilmington and St. Francis. For Mental Health at Rockford or Meadow Wood, Maternity at Christiana and Peds is at Nemours/A.I. DuPont. Community clinical is at many different locations depending on what you choose- it may be a school, hospice facility, etc.
  2. Good luck! I just started in the program on Jan. 8th at the Stanton campus and I got into the program with 13 points. I think it really depends on how many are applying as to what ranking points they use. Pretty always those with 15 & 16 points will get in. 14 points usually will unless there is a huge amount of 15 & 16 points and then depending the 13 points about half get in to the program. Any other questions, feel free to let me know! Dani
  3. I am currently taking the HLH Class in the 16 week block and I agree with Got2B that it kind of drags during lecture. Apparently this semester is the only one that they are doing the full semester for HLH and will go back to doing the 8 week course in the Spring. I don't find it that difficult but I'm also an EMT so I have somewhat of an advantage to some of the material.
  4. Other students who are in your clinicals and classes will be once of your greatest resources in nursing school. I have 3 other girls who I was in AP 1 & 2 with and we have all been accepted to start clinicals in January. A group who was in our AP classes started together this past August and they still study together, etc. and have helped each other get through the first few exams and doing so with passing grades. Our A&P instructor had told us that having a group to study with and get support from is the best thing we could do for each other.
  5. So the accelerated program for January 2018 start would then end in May 2019. You would do Spring, Summer, Fall, Spring. The traditional program is Spring, Fall, Spring, Fall with the summer off and graduate Dec. 2019.
  6. I'm a nursing student and currently take Effexor two times a day and I take Trazadone to help me sleep. Being a single mom of teenage twins (their father is deceased), scout leader, band parent secretary and a child who has his own mental health issues have taken its toll. I'm not ashamed of needing the meds to be able to handle everything because without it I'd probably end up hospitalized myself.
  7. I got my letter today in the mail- it's dated Sept. 11, 2017...so I hope that everyone has theirs today or tomorrow. I made it!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited!
  8. It could be to see how many applicants will need to take HLH 130 in Oct/Nov/Dec so they are ready to go for clinical in January.
  9. Absolutely Got2b! I keep hoping we'll get the acceptance letters soon than the end of the month, because seriously the wait is killing me!
  10. Congrats Almost! When did you get your acceptance letter?? I'm really hoping that Stanton sent them and we have them by the end of the week....the wait is killing me!
  11. LOL I'm no spring chicken myself Got2B- I'll be 40 in about a month. I have friends from my A&P classes that started clinicals this semester who are in their late 40's/50's so we'll all be great together! I was in the same boat, putting it off several times due to my kids, finances, family stuff, etc. I said I'm doing it for me now and nothing is going to stop me!
  12. I took A&P I with Basic Chemistry-I got a C in A&P and a B in Chem. I took A&P II along with Medical Terminology. I had to retake A&P II over the summer with a Math for Nurses class and got a B in both of those. I do agree that A&P II is a bit more difficult and taking it in 8 weeks will make it more difficult because it is a fast paced class over a 16 week period, much less 8 weeks.
  13. Dmb125 Good luck to you too and maybe we'll have clinicals together. :)
  14. I applied last January for August admission and missed getting in due to the high number of applicants with 16 points so I'm reapplying after retaking Math 129 to get a better grade. I have 13 points for ranking this time, so I'm hoping I will make it in. For the Fall semester I'm taking HLH, Intro to Microbiology & Technical Writing. I attend at the Stanton campus. Good luck! Dani
  15. 13 points to get into Del Tech is more than possible- some semesters if you have 12 points you can get accepted. I am applying for the Aug. 15th deadline for January admission. I have 13 points as well and just missed making it last semester with 12 points due to the large number of applicants with 16 points. Good luck everyone!! Which campus are you applying to?
  16. Hi there! My name is Dani and I'm currently a NREMT-B, DE EMT & PA EMT. I'm finishing up my pre-requisites at Del Tech Stanton and hoping to start clinicals in January 2018. (I just missed starting this Fall because of the large pool of applicants with the maximum ranking points.) I should know around September 15th or so if I am accepted for January 2018 clinicals. I just finished up 8 credits over the summer- A&P 2 and Math for Health Sciences and got a 3.0 for the semester! (That is a miracle in itself...lol) So thankfully my GPA is recovered from not passing A&P 2 in the Spring. (Rough semester and issues with my son interfered with my full attention being on my classwork.) I'm a single mom to 14 year old boy/girl twins, working 3 part time jobs and taking classes. This fall I'm taking 13 credits- Nurse Aide Training, Intro to Microbiology & Technical Writing. Any recommendations on white leather shoes for the clinical portions of my classes? They have to be white, leather and no logos.
  17. I am taking 13 credits- Nurse Aide Training (requirement for my program), Intro to Microbiology & Technical Writing (will go towards my BSN) All of my other pre-requisites are completed and I'm applying for January admittance on 8/15, I should know around 9/15 if I'm accepted.
  18. I passed my English Comp 2, Lifespan & Development and my Math for Allied Health. I start A&P I and Basic Chemistry on 8/22. I need to get an A in A&P to get the most points I can for ranking to get into the program I'm applying to. I also took the NLN-PAX (my school uses for ranking) and got a 97% on that which helps immensely on getting into the program. I'll be 39 in October and have 13 year old twins who are involved in Scouts (one boy, one girl) and now HS Marching Band....lol. Good luck in the upcoming semester!
  19. I took one class- Math for Allied Health and got a C. Not the greatest grade, but with not having any math classes for close to 20 years I'll take it. During this class I was laid off from my full time job and almost had to hospitalize my 13 year old son. I have a break until 8/22 then I start with A&P I and General Chemistry.
  20. My class used Math Skills for Allied Health Careers, so that may be the new book.
  21. Good luck! What book do you have for the math class? I can tell you if it's the same I used or the new one.
  22. I'm at the Stanton campus. It was informative and tough, of course I haven't had math in close to 20 years so for you it may be easier...lol. Take good notes, read and do the homework. Good luck! I know at our campus they are changing books this semester, not sure if it is at all campuses or not.
  23. I'm taking A&P I this coming semester as well and just finished Math for Allied Health Professionals. I *think* we are attending the same college, just different campuses. :) I'm nervous about A&P because it's been a long time since I've taken this type of class. As long as you have help with your little one, and time you can set aside to study, do homework, etc. you should be fine. Good luck!
  24. I've been an EMT for 4 years and am working on going into nursing school. I've never been interested in the fire side of things and thankfully for my area I could do EMT and not worry about having to do FF. I have been lucky that where I am a volunteer it's about 50/50 male to female ration for the EMT's and Paramedics. I'm hoping once I get my RN that I could still do some ride time on the ambulance as a PHRN (pre-hospital registered nurse) or even EMT (I am certified in 2 states and one doesn't have same levels as the other for providers.) I'm sorry that you had to deal with a medical diagnosis where you couldn't do the fire side that you wanted to, but as I like to look at things, everything happens for a reason.
