  1. As a school nurse I was assaulted by a student. The school did more about it than any hospital I ever worked in would have. Hospitals make you feel guilty for dumping patients on a co worker to get treated or even go home ill. You are not being a team player and letting your coworkers down.
  2. Some hospitals have year long nursing internships. It's hard coming out as a new grad. I did med surg my first 5 years. It was before preceptors and I was just thrown in to five complete care patients. I cried every day for a while all the way home. I had migraines. All of the sudden you organize yourself out of pure necessity and it clicks. Nursing is very hard. Maybe they didnt work with you long enough or give you a real chance. Each time you have to start over it's more and more nerve wracking. I lost a job do to someone else's error. But they wanted me off their payroll as I had a lot of experience and was making too much money. Each time I got a different job it was like the anxiety was crippling. Maybe think about how your anxiety makes it worse.. do you need a way to destress and not be so hard on yourself? Nurses are a tough crowd.
  3. You should. Home health and case managers are important pieces of healthcare. Hospital nurses dont have time to teach patients to care for their health needs or those of family members. You have the skills to make a difference in the lives of people who need care but dont know exactly what they need or how to access the help they need. You are a nurse and always will be. The anxiety we were given in the hospital is not appropriate. Nurses are necessary but the bullying needs to be addressed. We are all on the same team!
  4. I have worked 27 years in hospital nursing including med surg, maternity, nursery, pediatrics picu, OR, case management, and school nursing. I am currently a school nurse in a hs of 3000 kids. People dont understand what a school nurse really does. I have huge responsibilities and I love my job. At my age I dont care what people think. I make a difference in students lives every day. Nurses need to stop being mean to other nurses. The bullying and understaffing drove me out of the hospital. I'll never go back. I may make less money but I'm happier and have a life . I am respected by my colleagues .
  5. Any place I worked the floor nurses working with her would've at least split up her patients. That's horrible
  6. She is required to offer assistance. She doesn't have to accept it.
  7. I started nursing in 1984 I have been a nurse working since then. I have a bad back but no surgeries or serious injuries. We didn't use lifts unless it was impossible for 4 people to get the patient up. When you are putting someone immobile on the commode the lifts are hard to work with. I think lufthe teams sound like the best idea. I am out of hospital nursing after 27th yrs of it Now in school nursing. No more lifting.
  8. Some facilities hire medication aides who pass medications after being trained. Sunrise as st living does it. There is a RN in charge too. I don't agree with this practice as an RN but... in schools non nurses can be trained to give med as well.
  9. It's not feeling superior. But when you see enough parents in total denial about their kids it's understandable. Not my child!... Maybe instead parents should stop ignoring what's going on in front of them.
  10. I am a school nurse on VA . I was also a certified school nurse in PA. I havec worked with suburban rich kids as well as urban schools where the kids families have nothing. I worked before this for many years in the hospital setting mainly in acute care pediatrics. I could no longer handle the unsafe staffing in the hospital and the backstabbing environment . So I love what I do. I am not washed up I bring a wealth of experience to the students and families that I encounter. I work with counselors as social workers and professional educators as well as wonderful admin and support staff personell. At least we are all on the same team.
  11. Isn't the assignment posted? Usually it's not a secret.
  12. They could at least try Toradol
  13. My guess is that the patient is an addict.
  14. Imagine if I as a floor nurse transfered a patient from my care to icu and suggested the receiving nurse just "read the chart"... Don't think that would go over well.!
