  1. Hi NurseKateC! Yes I will be doing the residency - that was one of the things I was looking for in a first job - a good residency program [emoji6]
  2. Hi Chrissy - I feel your pain. I have been an LPN since 2009 and experienced exactly what you're talking about. I'm about to graduate July 23rd with my BSN and what has been most distressing is a lot of my RN courses have supported in my opinion looking down on LPNs [emoji53]. I am one of three LPNs in my class and whenever something is said about what an LPN can't do we all give each other a "knowing" look because we know what the reality is. Please don't get me wrong I do (especially now) understand the difference in training/education from an LPN to an RN, but LPNs deserve respect for the their education and skills too. I have met and worked with experienced LPNs that were far more knowledgable and could work rings around any RN. No one is JUST an LPN - we are all nurses and should be treated with respect!
  3. HI StudentRn2016!! I'm so glad to meet you!! Congratulations on applying to the OR intern program! I am relocating from Hampton Roads too! (Suffolk). I've taken a place in Mechanicsville, moving in in about 2 weeks, my first day is August 1st! The process was fairly quick for me....I applied online on a Friday and HR called me the following Monday or Tuesday. We set up an interview for that Thursday. I then submitted my references and HR called me I think the following Wednesday or Thursday and offered me the position! So all in all it took about a week and a half. I will be in the neuroscience department, it may be different for the OR intern program. As far as tips go, the managers i interviewed with were really nice and easy going. They asked things like "tell us about a time where you had conflict with a co worker and how did you resolve it?" "tell us about a time when you had to advocate for a client?" They will probably ask you if you're planning to relocate too. I was told to come to the interview in scrubs because they actually put you on the floor that day with a nurse so you can see if its a good fit for you. As far as salary goes I was offered $23.85 before shift diffs, which may reflect the fact that I have been an LPN since 2009. HR called me back to verify my LPN employment, which makes me think they may have taken this into consideration. The shift diffs are nice though - at the highest I would make about $31.85 - which I'm satisfied with for a new grad. I hope this info helps and CONGRATULATIONS again. Keep in touch!
  4. Hello all - this is my first post [emoji4]. I am graduating July 23rd (BSN) and I've accepted a position in the neurosurgery department with VCU Health System. I'm super excited and I was hoping to meet some other nurses there.
