  1. How has the Pleasant Prarie program been, for those who have begun? I am considering it, but nervous about the newness of it plus costs and no NCLEX pass rates to go off of yet.
  2. Hello! How is it now? Would you recommend the program at this point?
  3. So for those of you who have started the program, how do you like it? I am looking at Pleasant Prarie. Thank you for any input!
  4. Congratulations! Which campus?
  5. I'm curious if you applied and got it? My grades are similar and I am also considering retaking A&P.
  6. How is your experience at CLC? Is it difficult to get in to? I have C's in anatomy and wondering if I should retake them.
  7. Hello- I just looked up CLC because I'll be starting pre req's in the fall. How has your experience been so far? Are you doing the nursing program there or somewhere else?
  8. Thanks for checking in. Without a science or math background, it has been challenging for me to wrap my brain around things, but I am doing it! I think we are twins! I also have a self employed husband who makes our bread and butter, but retirement and health insurance scare me. I gave up my church job for Anatomy study time! I still get called as a sub but I miss it. And I teach a tiny bit but sent my students to another teacher so I would have time for school. However, I feel totally comfortable with my decision and am very happy at the prospect of "making a difference" in a different and important way. My little one is very young so studying is hard. I have one more pre-req until my next task of getting into a nursing program! I'd love to connect with you personally. I know of only two other musicians (both who had good careers) turned nursing students.
  9. I need a come to Jesus talk. I'm in A&P 1 and am having a hard time. I'm currently have a C, I'm pretty sure I failed my last lecture exam. I've always been an A/B student. Right now, I'm reconsidering nursing and just wondering if I will be able to handle what is ahead. I'm also an adult student with previous degrees so perhaps I just have no idea how to study! I'm working on changing things up. I'm having trouble with the amount of content and also memorizing. Any suggestions?
  10. were you able to get a job with your ADN while getting your BSN? Or did you have to get your BSN first?
  11. Thanks for the insight. Being the most expensive program in the Chicagoland area, I want to know that it is a stellar option before I consider it.
  12. Wow, this is beautiful. What an honorable profession. Thank you for sharing this.
  13. Hi guys, congrats on getting in! I'm curious why you chose Loyola over depauls menp or rush? I'm in pre reqs now and will be deciding where to apply- which classes to focus on soon.
  14. I'm in the same boat- I can either do an adn, absn, or masters enters program. I have a family though- so adn might be best. (Or wherever I get accepted!)
  15. What is it about nursing that you aren't so fond of? Why did you choose nursing as your backup as opposed to something else?
  16. Wow!! Really nice! I hope you do find time to continue!
  17. I am also a "go with the flow" kind of person, so I'm glad to hear this can be a benefit!
  18. talk to me more about the art of nursing. I hear this phrase but I'm curious as to what all it means.
  19. Thank you for your honest responses. I've worked as a classical musician and private teacher for the past 15 years and have make a living for myself doing so. Financially, it was never much more than what I absolutely needed to make, even as a full time performer and teacher. I am now married, hubby is self employed (no health or other benefits in his job), and we now have a child. Needless to say, my needs have changed and I dream of benefits! Performing in the classical world is tough in that there are fewer companies that pay, and traveling doesn't really seem possible. Any babysitter would end up making much more than I. So, we desperately need stability. But, I am also at a point where I don't NEED to be an artist. I've done what I wanted to do and am ready to move on. I also would like to do something with my life that isn't quite as self centered as performing. Something that "matters." One of my side jobs has been as an "entertainer" in the memory care unit of assisted living facilities. I have really enjoyed that. I have often thought that it would be nice to be able to do something in that setting full time (not as an entertainer though. It has been really great to see what a difference small things make in people's lives like holding hands, looking someone in the eye and telling them they are beautiful, or that they have a beautiful voice, reminding them that they are human. I am in the midst of pre req's now, and it is indeed very different. So.. while I am ready to move on, I have a feeling that I may want to come back to music at some point. I really just wanted to see how much/ if others missed their art after switching careers.
  20. Hi there, I'm working towards going into nursing as a second career, coming from a performing arts background. For those of you who are also artist, I have some questions: Did you ever regret your career change? Why did you change careers? Do you ever desperately miss your old life? How do you fulfill your artistic needs while working as a nurse? Thank you so much for any thoughts!
  21. Thank you for your input! I'm also considering an ADN- but it seems silly that an ADN takes just as long to complete as the MENP. There is obviously a lot of cost difference though!
  22. Hi DePaul graduates, I'm considering applying to the MENP program, but the cost.... ouch! For those of you who have attended, what do you think of: -MENP program vs. ABSN programs -Salary outcome (is there a major difference between BSN vs. MSN nurses -job satisfaction/ what you are able to do with a MSN -if you had to take out loans for the entire program, is it financially worth it compared to an absn program that offers a lot of scholarships? or even ADN? -Do you feel that MENP nurses are well respected in the community? I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you!
