How common are Latex foleys these days?
Latex is the best choice if you dont have allergy. Lot more comfortable than 100% silicone foleys. Silicone is more rigid/hard. Not talking about the price...

On the other end of the cath
Catheter insertion without lube is a nightmare. Its also uncomfortable to wear it after a dry insertion. Feels like your urethra is burning. Hurts so much!!! For those ,who do it dry.. I wish they have it the same way!

Foley Catheter Pull-Back
Push it all the way to the balloon port (Y) if you want to make sure its in the right place.

On the other end of the cath
Thats right! Catheter wearing changed my opinion about whole procedure. Insertion is the mayor part, that had to be done very carefully. Ive read many topics about it here. Sad, that is not common to use lubricants in the urethra. But without it the insertion is very painful. So just lube the cath is not enough!!! I think when its done under anesthesia is much worse, because I'm not sure they use lube. Than you wake up with a hell-burning urethra! It hurts! One more thing. Secure the cath to your lower abdomen. Fixing to the thigh is uncomfortable beacuse it tugs on the cath. If everythings done right ,catheter wearing can be realy comfortable.

Foley Catheter Pull-Back
Its not uncomfortable. I had many insertions ,and never felt uncomfortable or pain while the cath pushed in me all the way. I think it's much more problematic if you dont push it far enough.

On the other end of the cath
Greetings! Has anyone here ,who wore a foley cath while inserting one to a patient? I have enlarged prostate and its often makes me wear catheters. Foley using made me much better at insertions and catheter care.

Bladder Training
Hi! I know what do you mean... After long term foley wear the bladder needs to be "retrained" by stopping the urine flow and let the bladder fill. When the bladder filled or the patient had strong urge declamp the foley and let the urine out for a few minutes. A few years ago I had to wear a foley for two weeks. One day before the removal the nurse started the training. It was so strange to feel my bladder filling with the foley in me. The nurse said that the foley had to be clamped for three hours. After the first hour I felt so intense urge to utrinate and called the nurse to release the calmp or I'll explode. She got only 250 ml out of me and said I'll have to ignore the urge let it fill more. At the second round I reached the three hour limit and produced 450 ml after declamp. And repeat! But it was so hard to ignore the very strong urge to urinate. Finally after the removal everything gone back to normal so fast. So , I think it was useful.
