ODU RN-BSN
Renting a book vs buying new is recommended. You will never need a brand new book with all the codes. Other than the APA manual, you really don't need the book when you are finished with the course. Another idea is to email the professor and ask if it is OK to use the prior edition of a book. I saved a lot of money that way. Most of the time, the prior edition is fine and I could find it on ebay for cheaper than renting. (the courses that you really need the newest books are 306, 417, and 490W. The rest you are fine with the edition prior to the one they recommend in the syllabus)

UWorld, Hurst, or Kaplan?
I used UWorld and Hurst Now. UWorld has great rationales, and you learn so much from every question. Hurst was good for a summary of content, and the videos were helpful in teaching you how to think through the questions and not be the 'killer nurse.' When I had a hard time choosing an answer, I would use the tips that Hurst gave me and I really think it helped me pass NCLEX.

Have any May grads in Virginia gotten their ATT yet? If so, how many days did it take to get the ATT after the letter of attestation was sent in by your school?

Pre-Requisite Nursing Course with LAB?
I took the online CHEM with Lab through Clovis CC in Mew Mexico. LP was my professor, I highly recommend him. Most of the other students in my class were RN-BSN students in Ohio. I took it to fulfill the ODU RN-BSN requirement, it was transferred in without any issues.

NVCC / NOVA Traditional Nursing Fall 2019 - MEC
Hi! I think you don't hear much from nursing students because we are all busy studying ? I'll try to help out with some info. I am in the second semester of the nursing program. It is a new curriculum (all the community colleges in Virginia have switched to a concept based curriculum) so we are the first cohort to go through it at NOVA. Although things can sometimes be unorganized, you will find the same complaints from people in other local nursing programs. The first semester is very intense and stressful, but my advice is to be as organized and flexible as you can. I also recommend you take any of the first year coreqs that you don't already have (BIO 142, BIO 150, etc) over the Summer before you start the program. Don't worry about starting a coenrollment RN-BSN program first semester...focus on NOVA. Second semester is a good time to start a coenrollment program (GMU and ODU are two options). The nursing faculty are extremely supportive and work very hard to ensure we are getting a good education. They are good at seeking out student feedback and are very pro-student. Nursing school is tough, but you have to remember nursing is a job where we are responsible for patients lives. NOVA has a great reputation among local hospitals, and recent graduates have no issues finding jobs. Overall, I would say it is an excellent program. Good luck to everyone who applied! ?

ODU RN-BSN
I just started the odu rn bsn program, besides 3 of the classes needing to be taken at a certain time, I have been able to plan the other 7 classes whenever I want. 10 classic total here. I saved $5,000 by doing odu instead of gmu which is huge.

NVCC / NOVA Traditional Nursing Fall 2018 - MEC
After being told that one of our lectures would be online, and then that two would be online, we are ending up with zero lectures online. Prepare to spend the first semester either on campus or at a clinical 4-5 days a week. One day, that may mean being on campus for a 50 minute lecture. Another day, you may be there for 6 hours. It really makes it difficult if you have any work or family obligations outside of school.

ODU RN-BSN
Did you have to take any proctored exams or was it mostly papers/projects? Do you know of anyone who did the GMU RN-BSN? Trying to decide between ODU and GMU and get as much info as possible on both.

John Tyler Community College RN Fall 2018
Has anyone heard about the RN-BSN concurrent program through ODU? That seems to be a good option.

NVCC / NOVA Traditional Nursing Fall 2018 - MEC

NVCC / NOVA Traditional Nursing Fall 2018 - MEC
I think what vg2481 is saying is that people may be weary of being the guinea pig in a new curriculum. The fall cohort will be taking an entire different set of nursing courses, curriculum, etc. The professors will be teaching these courses for the first time. Yes, it is still a nursing program, but the classes will be different. We all know how unorganized nvcc is, so it is a little scary to be the first cohort going through so many changes. For me, it is worth it because I know that nvcc has a great nursing program and a great reputation.

NVCC / NOVA Traditional Nursing Fall 2018 - MEC
I feel like everyone is getting their hopes up with this extended deadline. How can they go from having 200 to 400 applicants and never enough spots, to now not enough applicants? Has anyone been able to find out how many spots they have for the Fall? Surely they have an idea by now?

NVCC / NOVA Traditional Nursing Fall 2018 - MEC
I was so excited for a second; I thought maybe this was THE email! Ugh. I just would love to know of potential orientation dates in case I get in so I can plan the next few months without a possible scheduling conflict. Surely they won't make us wait until June to find out if we got in or not?!?!

NVCC / NOVA Traditional Nursing Fall 2018 - MEC
How did they know to email you, did you apply previously? Or are they just emailing anyone who, for example, is enrolled in PSY 230 right now?

Check your emails, they just notified me that my app is being forwarded to the next step.

NVCC / NOVA Traditional Nursing Fall 2018 - MEC
I calculated my prereq GPA (A&P1 1 and 2, ENG, SDV, PSY 230) with something like this College GPA Calculator I am not sure if they are looking at the whole pre-req GPA, or placing more emphasis on what you got in A&P like they have in past years. Has anyone heard how many people they plan on accepting?

NVCC / NOVA Traditional Nursing Fall 2018 - MEC
Hi Everyone! I applied for the Fall, time for me to stop lurking on this site I guess I scored in the 90's on all three sections of the TEAS and my prereq GPA is a 3.73. I received an email that my application was received about a day after I submitted it. Since then, I haven't heard anything. There will not be a cohort this Spring (that info can be found in this link) http://www.nvcc.edu/medical/_files/new-nursing-curriculum-information-sheet.pdf

ODU RN-BSN
We're all the classes 16 weeks in length? Did you have flexibility in how many classes you took each semester? It sounds like you did the concurrent program...was it hard to get into?
