  1. I am looking for input on heparin injections. What gauge needle to you use for heparin injections? 23g, 25g, 27g, or 29g? Does your hospital supply 29 gauge needles to attach to the syringe? Is there data that demonstrates less pain, bruising, and bleeding with the 29gauge needle? Have you transferred heparin 5000unit/ 0.5ml to an insulin syringe for adm. comfort?
  2. Sounds like you started the wrong profession. Nursing isn't about how hard you work and how it affects your home life. It is about the Passion of caring for those who cannot care for themselves. With any profession/career there are downsides. You can't look at the downside. You have to look at all the positive impact you have on people, all people. You should rethink getting another career. Your heart isn't in this and it will eat you alive. Get out, get a new gig, career, stay at home, anything----but get out. You can do a better good elsewhere. I have been in nursing since I was 17. I worked my way up from aid to LPN to RN to BSN. I have worked med surg, ortho, ED, agency, management, education, and have landed square in ICU since 1985. LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I learned as much as I could and still learn every day. I fight to keep my patients safe and get them out of the hospital fast----or hold their hand as they die....... I work with all kinds of people and have learned to WORK WITH THEM ALL. It is hard. My children say I am their role model and my colleagues (yes that means doctors also) thank me and enjoy working with me. So get out, go to a whole different spectrum of work. Life is soooooo short and you should be totally happy when you walk out the door in the morning.....good luck
  3. i would like evidence based research in utilizing nurse server carts and what to do with them after the patient leaves the ICU. currently we throw everything away and wipe out the carts. however, with all the readings I have been doing there is no proof that leaving the items in the carts has the potential for cross contaminating the next patient. If we know an isolation pt is coming to the unit we will take most items out and run the cart bare to keep costs contained. although, working as an agency nurse also I have seen many hospitals not change them out. it is understood that when you reach into a CLEAN NURSE SERVER CART your hand or gloved hand should be CLEAN. ANYONE OUT THERE WITH OTHER EBP ON THE SUBJECT?
