We Did Not Sign Up For This
I can understand both sides but technically, yes we did sign up for this. Or at least we knew what we were signing up for. In California, we’re considered disaster workers. We learned about this in my community/public health class during nursing school. We went over natural disasters such as when Hurricane Katrina hit. As a Cali nurse, I was positive I’d only deal with earthquakes and fires. Now I definitely wasn’t expecting a pandemic during my career . But it’s here and its the reality of my job. I work OB myself so I work with a specific pt population but was told I could get floated in areas of need. Speaking for my hospital only, despite not having training, I would not do anything out of my scope of practice. However, I do know how to take vitals, how to draw labs or hang meds. As long as I am protected I will do my job. Where it becomes problematic is the PPE hasn't be adequate so I understand why some nurses are fearful.

Useless Shift Report Information
Only writing this because it just happened when leaving night shift... get the point of report! Be respectful of other people’s time. Its almost 730, Im ready to clock out and go to sleep so I can do this all over again in a few hours. If you want to talk about the patient and other side chatter, save it for later. Get through report promptly so that the other nurses can give for the other patients. It was like 15-20mins that I waited that I realized that these two nurses were just chopping it up and barely got thru report. How inconsiderate is that?

Patient with platelet count of 3?
Nope, this pt had TTP for more than 5 years prior to the pregnancy

Useless Shift Report Information
Whew man, I’m still new to this but man I dont see the point of useless information in report. In my unit We have a standard form we use for report and sometimes When we get to the history portion, Im always like why am I being told of something that beens resolved already or something from 10-15yrs ago?? Tell me RELEVANT hx that will affect patient care. For example, I was receiving report for a patient and when we got to the allergies part, I was told NKDA but doesnt eat fish. Im like.... ok, that is not an allergy but a preference so why was this relevant to me? ?♀️

Patient with platelet count of 3?
In my l&d clinicals, we had a pt in labor with TTP who presented with bleeding. Her platelet count was 6 and was trending downward evem after tx. Unfortunately given the high risk of her labor and risk of receiving blood or bleeding out, she still ended up passing away from complications.

Passed at 236
First I want to say CONGRATULATIONS. and secondly, wow are you me right now lol this sounds like my exact experience! I did NCLEX Mastery and UWorld and my averages ranged from 45-66% and took both predictor tests from nclex mastery and both said i had a high chance of passing. I had 249 questions and after 150q I was getting annoyed too like why wont this test turn off. And it took 3 days for my results to post on my Breeze account, it still hasnt even updated on PearsonVue. But wooh, the hard part is over. CONGRATS again

I didn't get accepted.. What are some other ABSN or CNL/MEPN programs I can apply to?
Im also from the Bay. I applied to ADN, absn and ELMSN (MEPN) programs I qualified for. My overall gpa isnt the greatest but my last 60 units is well over 3.4 I would suggest looking at each schools qualifications and only apply for schools you actually qualify for. Also, these schools really love volunteer experience! So if you dont already have clinical experience, I would suggest volunteering at a clinic or hospital. as for age, thats not an issue at all. I knew a woman in her 50s that was in Samuel Merritt's Absn program So look around, explore all options and even look in Central Valley (fresno, bakerfield, etc) and even SoCal. Stay optimistic. I applied to 5 schools and was declined. However I applied to SFSU ELM program and was accepted and am currently in my first semester, so you'll make it :)

Too many science prerequisite repeats??
I retook almost all of my science pre reqs. I had C's originally but of course those grades were competitive. When I was applying to schools, I had to read their requirements as well as I was sometimes disqualified because of the retakes. And there are some schools who take off points. Then there are some who take the best grade. It really all depends at the program youre looking at. Each have their own specified requirements and its all confusing. Luckily the program I got into looked at my better grades than my original ones into consideration! best of luck! There's a program out there for you!

Applying to Direct Entry from Undergrad
The OP clearly stated that they are taking the necessary pre reqs for an accelerated program...

How many times were you rejected before getting into nursing program?
I got rejected from 6 different schools (to be fair, 4 of them I didnt qualify for. Think I was overly ambitious) But I finally got accepted into a program and start in two weeks! these were a mixture of ABSN, ELMSN, and ADN programs. The school Im attending is a ELMSN :)

APU ELM Fall 2017
They were calling last week for interviews. I had one scheduled for this one but I heard back from another school with an acceptance. Part of me wanted to keep the interview just to see my options but I only had a few days to accept/decline the first school. APU was def my second choice though

ccsf spring 2017
Its Entry Level Masters in Nursing. Same as an ABSN program, when you have a BChelors in somethig else other than nursing. Except with the ELM programs, you earn both a BSN and MSN
-
ccsf spring 2017
I applied to their ELM program so I used my gre scores. For their BSN program, I think requires the TEas though
-
ccsf spring 2017
Yeah, it's kind of insulting actually. I know there's limited spots but to have qualified applicants not even looked at doesnt seem fair. But Thank you, good luck to you too! I have other options as well. I have an interview for SFSU's program next week so *fingers crossed*
