How long did it take you to complete the Prelicensure BSN program at WGU
Bumping as I'm eager to hear how this works time wise. If you're able to demonstrate competency are they willing to left you pull a class from the next semester and start on it sooner?

New Nurse at 63 - Too Old?
Heck no you're not to old! If you just finished school I'd keep rolling into the next level. You'll have so many practical skills down & will be ahead of most students. Anyone who's done lower level nursing knows exactly what they're getting into and you'll learn faster because you've got context for how this plays out in real work environment. There will NEVER be enough RN's.....never! I plan on always working at least part-time because I love it. A BSN gives you unlimited options. I'm starting an accelerated program at 59 and I work circles around my young colleagues. People going to school when they're older often make for better employees because they're committed to a career change and have great life experience and communication skills.

NP in.....fitness and wellness?
The NP I see personally has a gym in her offices. She practices from a wellness perspective. I actually see the need for her to add a nutritionalist to her practice because people need allot of practical help making eating plans. You might look for practices that focus on Functional Medicine. The national professional organization advertises for openings in the type of practices you're describing.

Question about 12 hr shifts that are overnight
I am finishing my last semester of pre-Reqs before applying to nursing school. I will be looking at programs for people who already have a Bachelors but are pursuing a BSN. My concern is in being able to work an overnight shift during clinicals. I am pan-hyopituitary and replace 10 hormones due to also having adrenal deficiencies beyond gluccocortisol. I have worked in a pharmacy for many yrs so I'm used to being on my feet for long hrs, but I don't think I can do an overnight shift. Do you think it's possible to request only daytime shifts? Also do you think I should bring this up during the admission process or before clinicals start? Thanks for your insight! Gina

Stroke protocol in ER
Hi, I'm finishing up my pre-Reqs to start a BSN program......so don't know much of anything yet.:) When someone comes into the ER via ambulance with visible signs of a stroke, does the ER automatically administer tpa type medicine is a more thorough work-up done with imaging, etc. before they decide that? Thanks for your opinion, Gina

Indiana Prelicensure (June 1 Cohort)
YNJT, I also have an interest in the VA. Are you saying you were able to pick the clinical site you wanted for all your shifts?

Indiana Prelicensure (June 1 Cohort)
Can you guys tell me more about the clinicals? How soon into the program do they start? It sounds like they are usually 12 hr shifts. Are they back to back days?

Will I be able to get a hospital job with BSN from WGU? Will they look at it different?
Meanmaryjean, what's the story with your user ID? You're scaring me as a possible applicant...lol

Will I be able to get a hospital job with BSN from WGU? Will they look at it different?
Meanmaryjean, what are your thoughts about NP programs accepting a pass/fail program? Would another online school be easier to get accepted into vs a brick & mortar program?

ABSN cost?
A couple of options to consider are agreeing to serve 2-3 yrs post grad in an under served community. There are programs that will provide loan forgiveness for up to $40k for your service. Also look into the VA. Then you could go to school part-time for your NP working for an employer who will pay for your degree.
