Your welcome! I took the traditional 4 year BSN so acceptance for me was much easier then ABSN. Saying that UMFK is much easier to get accepted into then most colleges. Just make sure you meet the acceptance criteria. If you haven't talked to an administration councilor I suggest doing that as soon as you can. It's a very laid back school and they often work with students if you are close to meeting accepting criteria.

Hi, I just graduated from there in May. The area is really pretty but the weather sucks. It is very cold most days temperature doesn't get over 0 degrees in the winter. It is a rural area with not much to do unless you like winter activities. Even with all the negative it's one of the best school for nursing in the state of Maine. The staff is amazing and professor go out of the way to help the students. The acceleration program is intense ( there is a lot to learn and not much time to learn). You will be way ahead of some other students. I hope this is helpful.

I know it's way out of the way but Maine has a lot of new graduate jobs. I graduated in May and applied to three places. I got offers from all three places. I have only been a nurse for about 5 months and I am already working 2 jobs that I love!

He was actually a she! I could not agree more. She is definitely an odd person. I should have said something it looked very unprofessional.

I am a day late but things I learned this week are 1 being on the other side of the bed ( being a patient) sucks! Not only is it expensive but can be very painful ( kidney stones suck!!) 2 that shots hurt!! I would rather go back to giving them I do not want to receiving them anymore. 3 that going from one GI extreme ( constipation) to another one (diarrhea ) in a day is uncomfortable and annoying! 4 if you are a doctor in the er and you choose not to wear underwear you might want to wear pants that do not have a hole in the crotch of pants. If you do happen to go commando with a hole in your pants you might want to shave your peri area first! I saw way to much of that doctor!!

I know it will be hard to get people to respect me when 6 months ago I was in there position. Now instead of them telling me what to I am the one in charge. As hard as it will be I think it would be harder to change facilities. I love my residents! Who could not love an 90 year old who needs a hug before they can go to sleep at night. When I am working I know my residents are getting the care they deserve even if it means I have to do it myself. I am going to stand up for myself and stick it out for at least a year. I owe my residents that. If things don't change by then I will have to look for a new job and again thank you to everyone who took time to give me advice!

I had an ok relationship we were friendly, most being older then me by a lot. They seem to forget how much I helped and covered for them when I was a CNA

I used to work with a nurse who had a drug diversion charge and working impaired years earlier. she got her license back only to lose it again when she got charged with the same crime. Her only punishment was a suspend license and a fine. The second time she surrendered her license and just got a small fine. Every state is different but it takes a lot before the Bon actually takes your license.

You all have good ideas!! I wish I had another nurse to back me up when dealing with the CNA behavior we only have one nurse on every shift. It is a small nursing home and the CNAs stick up for each other. It sucks when I have all three CNAs mad at me.

Thank you again!! I have been really frustrated lately and you made me feel better! I love my job as a nurse because of the residents. It sucks when you have coworkers who make you dread coming in to work. I just need to remember I am there for my residents not to make friends. 😀

Thank you all for your help. My DON did stand up for me and told me this would not be tolerated. I do need to work on standing up for myself and not just do everyone's job for them.

Hi, I just graduated from nursing school in May and need some advice. I am a charge nurse at a nursing home that I worked at as a CNA when I was in nursing school. My problem is none of my coworkers see me as a charge nurses. The CNA's I work with are constantly telling me I am too young (I am 22 working with the majority of people old enough to retire) to be in charge. Not one of the CNAs do what I ask them too and if they have a question they don't ask me they go straight to the DON. They disrespect me and are mean about it. I do not ask a lot of the CNAs, just to do there job. I am constantly saying if you do your job I will do mine, and there will be no problems. However they slack off on basic care for the residents. Last night a CNA put a resident to bed at 6 fully clothed. when I when in to the room 10:30 rounds the patient was not change, and still in there socks and shoes. Meanwhile the CNAs were all talking and laughing in the dining room of the facility. I asked why this resident has not even been checked to see if they were wet, the CNA replied I checked them before supper (4:30), and they were dry. They told me, I did not want to wake them up at 7 to get washed up. After explaining that was not ok. The CNA still sat there talking and not tending to the resident. So I had to do it because I could not let the resident stay like that. If I would have tried to write them up they would not sign it saying there is no way some 22 year old is going to tell me what to do. It's really frustrating when no one will do what you ask them because you are younger then they are. If anyone had any advice it would be greatly appreciated!
