  1. First, if you are truly interested in taking care of this female patient then you will respect her belief, whether it is religious or personal.........Taking care of patients emotionally, spiritually, psychologically is just as important as physically........REMEMBER she is the patient and it is NOT about YOU, no matter if you don't like her beliefs or how much you disagree with her........On top of that, I personally do not consider what you experienced racism until you know all the facts......For example, this female patient may have been previously raped by a male or someone from your ethnic descent which makes her relive the event and feel vulnerable every time you take care of her........You should never jump to conclusions and label your patients without knowing the FACTS first.......!!! FYI - You will also experience patients who do not want you to take care of them because you are male.......That is not sexism.........!!!! IT MORE ABOUT THE PATIENTS and less about you! You chose to be a nurse and part of the deal is respecting the wishes of your patients. In other words, not everyone thinks the same nor should you be judgemental of your patients and expect them to.
  2. Awesome advice BostonFNP! Especially about being honest!
  3. One option is to take 6 hours for 1 semester and then take 9 months off repeatedly for the rest of your life so that your loans are continually in deferment......... When you are 65 what the hell can they do to you if you can't pay? By then the U.S. will be either socialist or communist or taken over by NATO anyway and all our education will be free, right? Screw it......Do what makes you happy now.
  4. It's not always about money..........sometimes the satisfaction a degree gives you is worth a little extra money. Why do you want the degree? Answer that and you will have your answer to whether you should do it even though it is expensive.
  5. The question is limited wouldn't you agree................?
  6. I got a great freak'n idea.....just go to work smelling like a pig. Then when you come home go to bed smelling like a freak'n pig......Aren't choices great!!! Either way, you get to smell like a freak'n pig.......
  7. "I am shocked that you graduated without knowing" how to be tactful when appropriate.............I don't think he/she needs your emotions or a lesson in life from your incredible wisdom......Sometimes folks need a little encouragement instead of tearing down to get'm over the hill.
  8. Can't go wrong with Family Practice Guidelines (Cash & Glass) and The 5-Minute Clinical Consult. If you can't find it in there then you need to punt to a specialist......
  9. Live like you did before becoming a nurse for the next few years and get those silly loans paid off.......My guess is that if you would have chosen a cheaper school that is competitive to get accepted you would have been put on a 2 or 3-year waiting list. Here in Houston at cheaper schools, nursing students are usually on a 5-year waiting list because it is so competitive. So figuring you probably would have made several thousand dollars less during those 2-5 years while waiting to get into nursing school at a cheaper school, tell me how are you worse off now having a $60,000 loan? At least you're a nurse and you will continue each year to make several thousand dollars more with annual raises!!! If you do the math I suspect you will find that you come out ahead when it is all said and done.
  10. Three words for you........family nurse practitioner.
  11. Hello. I am an FNP student, and I have the potential to secure a doctor for 2 of my adult practicums and his FNP for my Women's Health preceptor. That is 3/4 of the required preceptors for my class!! If I secured these 3 preceptors practicums, I would only need to find a pediatric preceptor. My question is.....the doctor and FNP want to meet with me. What should I prepare for? What should I say to them? Is it going to be like an FNP interview? Or is it a meet & greet and I only need to be personalizable? Should I dress up? Honestly, I don't even know what my first words will be when I walk in their office.....Can someone help? Thanks!!!!
  12. The pharmacist can not say soap and water.........it's not sterile. If the old women is asking such a question she needs looking after.....
