  1. Hello Nurses: Just wondering if anyone had good recc on online PMHNP programs. Preferably, MSN level that will find clinicals? This may be rare, but all information is appreciated.
  2. Honestly speaking i don't understand the lack of support from seasoned nurses to newer nurses. As one person explained above, newer nurses are returning back to school a lot quicker than previous nurses did 15 years ago, because the opportunities presents itself quicker nowadays...with many BSN programs having a direct entry into the DNP/NP following BSN graduation and most people like myself would prefer to get their education done and over with, so you don't lose momentum for studying, clinicals, papers etc. I dont see why older nurses find this to be such a big deal. Everyone's life is different. I finished my BSN in my late 20s, but i graduated with people who were 22-24 years old, should i be upset because life afforded them the opportunity to become a nurse sooner than it did me? NO! A lot of people have their lives planned out and are very diligent at reaching milestones and goals. Seasoned nurses/NPs will argue that new grad NPs don't know what theyre doing beacuse they lack the bedside nursing exp and skills...but i've seen and heard physicians criticize the education of the NP as a whole and that includes the most seasoned nurses/NP's...so regardless of the cutthroat behavior we display against each other...remember some old school physicians will always see us as just NURSES and it doesn't matter if you're BSN, DNP, Phd ..so lets not further tare each other down with negative comments about career and education. NURSE ON PEOPLE!?
  3. @AS8812 how are you liking the program at UofA pmhnp? About when did they let you know you were admitted?
  4. same here i was rejected as well , but got into another program. Best of luck all
  5. @LBR88 were you able to get an interview for FNP? i am waiting as well. Kinda weird that they are extending app deadline but still haven't released decisions for those who applied by the initial deadline.
  6. @Chemiralins22 did you need to have psych exp first? I originally wanted that program but did FNP because i didnt have psych experience.
  7. @x3liza Well good thing is you atleast got an interview. Thats so awesome. best of luck to you. was the interview intimidating?
  8. @JackChase1212 That is awesome ! ? did your program ask you to atleast work part time or per diem to gain psych exp before acceptance? Or they were able to accept the OR experience? Kudos to you being almost done.
  9. @ql279 which location and program did you apply to? I dont really know how to feel because my status still says " Committee Ready" but the homepage says they're still accepting apps for fall 2019. I wonder why they didn't send out all of their Admit/reject decisions before accepting additional apps.....Just my thought. Congrats on your acceptance ?
  10. @Wsmit I hope so because i have not gotten a call or heard anything about an interview
  11. so if you have not gotten an interview yet, are there chances you may not be admitted?
  12. Has anyone gotten interviews for baltimore campus FNP?
  13. Still haven't heard anything yet...starting to think we may not hear until after christmas ? Has anyone else heard anything?
  14. @Carrie_RN Thank you so much for your comment. Will keep in mind.
  15. @Workitinurfava Thank You so much for this! Will keep this in mind.
  16. I also applied FNP, Baltimore Campus. Does anyone know if they want the 3,4,5 year program? Im still undecided. Hopefully we start getting emails today.
  17. @belle980 Thank You, i realized the negative comments are from those nurses that this post describes!
  18. Haven't heard a thing yet, still waiting!
  19. @Meanmaryjean, then DONT comment! You obviously read through the post, as im sure you've done many others. Being Doctorally prepared Faculty, im sure you can decipher what i'm saying...you simply don't want to...and that is fine!
  20. I am a recent new grad RN from May,2018. I have always been very passionate about nursing and the positive impact we are able to make in someone's life. But lately i've been feeling im not enjoying nursing so much and honestly it's more so the people i work with and not the actual job/labor itself...why is this? I've learned that Nursing units are very cliquish and you have to look the part to try to fit in? Again, why is this? Statistics show that a high percentage of new grad nurses leave their first job because of bullying and unfair treatment from experienced nurses! It's like the experienced nurses gotta " break you in" and make sure you have thick skin to fit into their unit culture...with all the BS we endure from patients, family/friends and some arrogant physicians...why do nurses put more pressure on each other and love to see the weakness/failure on the unit in newer nurses who are trying to do their best! Bullying from nurse to nurse is a real thing...i have experienced it myself. Experienced Nurses/Preceptors already know the " typical mistakes" new grads are gonna make ..but instead of them setting you up for success and teaching you the right way to do a skill, they'd rather you make the mistake so they can embarrass you while correcting you in front of other nurses/physicians etc and at that point is it really a teaching moment, or a moment for you to feel full of yourself because you just made a new grad look/feel stupid? I have spent countless days reading threads on here trying to find which unit or area of nursing doesn't experience these behaviors but i still haven't found any. Everyone seems to complain about every area of Nursing. i am not in the position to leave nursing now or anytime soon...so what should i do? Oh , and going to the nurse manager and explaining your feelings and asking for a different preceptor doesn't work either...you only make yourself look like " the issue" ...i know, crazy right? Meanwhile, the hospital is spending thousands of dollars training new grads who dont stay, and they're too stupid to do a unit based root-cause-analysis to figure out why the new grads are leaving...they just simply replace you, forget you and do it all over again to the next victim! thoughts, comments are wanted and welcomed!
  21. RubyVee you have some valid points, but as a new graduate myself...i just wonder why do experienced nurses eat their young and why do nurse managers allow this behavior on their units? The turnover for new grads in their first job is ridiculously high and hospitals seem not to care about the money they spend/lose training new grads who dont stay not even 6 months. nursing is the most catty field of work i have ever encountered its like if youre a quiet professional person that likes to do your work and focus on your care and mind your business you dont fit in ! The only people who seem to fit in on these units are people who tell their personal business such as who you're dating, or you're house is in foreclosure , you failed a class at school...if you're spilling your life story you're well liked and you'll make it off of orientation with no issues, regardless of skill level or readiness...why is this?
  22. good luck to you! I have not heard anything yet but it's nice to know they are sending out invites!
  23. @oldmahubbard would you mine talking more about your career as a psych NP it sounds really interesting...what u do! i feel like not enough psych NPs talk about their careers and experience.
  24. @ ocargo009 Same here i applied for FNP but only got the general email for interview dates in the spring. I am also hoping to get an interview "Invite". Do you currently work psych? i was gonna apply to the Psych NP but do not have psych exp, figured it wouldn't work in my favor.
  25. wow! $175K, what state is this? Ive seen Psych NP salaries that high, but thought it was just spam/lies.
