  1. in my experience starting pay is anywhere from 8 to 12 an hour at ltc (long term care) nursing homes. as for child care you could just work a shift that would work out with you and your husband or just get child care somewhere else. I didn't help alot but that is a start.
  2. update: state board called me yesterday and said the case had been dropped because all my documentation was correct. woohoo
  3. I checked into this and they are not crossing state lines so the body doesn't have to be embalmed. They have all the paperwork from the funeral home and have been given the ok by the Hwy patrol. so I guess I learned something new today.
  4. Has anyone ever came across this? The family is wanting to transport the body like two hours away in the back of their car. They already have a body bag and everything. Just really odd to me.
  5. finally got more info on this. The reason she turned me in was due to "sending pt. via private vehicle to the hospital er with a possible head injury. the paperwork she sent to accompany her statement said pt was sent via ems on backboard with c-collar on. so she contradicted herself. there was no mention of the neuro checks at all. the ADON, new DON who replaced her and the Administrator all sent statements saying that it should have never been reported and she was a new nurse in a supervisory position and didn't know the proper action to take. I have to go talk to someone at the state next month. hopefully everything turns out ok. I dont think I will lose my license. they found all my vitals and assessments and resent them to the state and they said neuros were not warrented.

I dont think it matters my clinical instructor was a very large guy and worked in the ER. Still one of the best nurses I have ever met.
  7. I have always answered about how we are expected to "babysit" some of the other staff or have to deal with "highschool drama" that goes on. Which has almost every time been followed by them saying that their facility is not like that or is trying to eliminate the problem.

To be honest I cant believe after that long they are still holding to it. But I think the letter sounds great. good luck

I work weekend doubles at a LTC and then 5-8hr shifts for a hospice urgent care where if I dont get a call I get to sleep at home and get paid full salary. But the weeks that I have to work the whole 72hrs a week it tears me up but if your determined you can do it.
  10. We have a contract with walgreens and here in Oklahoma I am have to deliver meds some (I work night shift). Yes some neighborhoods can be scary but I have had only one problem while delivering meds. guy asked what was in my bag and I told him my college books (I carry a book bag) and he went on.
  11. I am part of our Urgent Care/ Continuous Care staff. we are one of if not the only hospice in this area to provide 24hr. care by a LPN/LVN at the end stage of life or if thought necessary to control patient symptoms or family comfort. The case manager comes out to assess q 24hrs. We have two LPN's on staff all three shifts that are Urgent Care/ CC staff. Many times its not needed but the family is greatful when we are there.
  12. family was at facility with patient shortly after she went lethargic, family member is RN for Hospice of patient. She was on the same line of thinking as I was. the facility said state was there last week and got them for their charting so maybe making an example of me. im not really sure yet. hopefully everything turns out ok.
  13. alright talked to the DON at the LTC facility and she turned me in for lack of documentation.
  14. I am being turned into the boards for a fall that I didn't start neuro checks even though no head injury or any injury was suspected. later that night she became lethargic at dinner. What should I do from here? I dont have a clue. the patient was a hospice patient I called and notified them and they decided that they should send her to the hospital.
  15. FYI. OU is a private school. Langston is supposed to be real good and the pass rate for nclex is good as well
  16. Sorry im so late on replying. It was self paced when I went there but I believe it has changed since then. Clinicals are mostly done in Okmulgee, Henryetta, and OSU med ctr. here in tulsa. In our class of like 17 I was the only one not to pass my first try but should have just had alot going on personally then. 2nd time no problem. I also looked into Central tech. in sapulpa and it seemed to be a pretty good school as well. only reason I did the GCTC is because it started 6months before the Central tech one did. Hope that helps.
  17. If you have most of you basics already then just do the RN. in my opinion. I have also heard less than positives about osu okmulgee. I went to lpn school across the street from there and not many were going there. I did lpn first because I didn't have any basics yet. If you have any other questions let me know. Dig It!
  18. i went to greencountry tech in okmulgee and liked it ok. osu-okmulgee was right next door and mostly people that took the lpn program then the osu passed and others failed (i heard this anyway). also central tech is in sapulpa and is a good school
  19. I started out for firefighting in college. Most departments around her you have to be a paramedic as well so I went to paramedic school (loved paramedic work but horrible pay) found out I liked the medical aspect of everything better than firefighting. So I stuck with nursing going to get into emergency medicine and maybe go into med school not sure on that yet.
  20. Oh My God I wore these beautiful Khaki slacks with a gorgeous blue dress shirt no tie. lol No it went good I got the job offered they said they have to do some calculations to see what my pay will be and get with me on monday.
  21. Thanks for all your help. I feel that the suit might be too formal myself. I will let you know how it goes and what happens at the interview Friday. The only problem is that it might clash with my current hospice job. Just have to see what they say. I was also offered a fulltime position today at the LTC facility that I work at PRN (is it PRN or prn?). Heres to hoping it will work out I just need a little something more skilled than the hospice to get ready for school. I should be finished with my BSN in a year and a half woohoo.
  22. I have an interview for an urgent care position at the local hospital what should I wear I have lots of nice suits but I think that is a little too formal. I have lots of nice shirts with and without collars, or just wear some black scrubs? This is for a pt/prn position so I will have to see if they will work with my hospice schedule. Thanks
  23. I worked hospice as a CNA and they are terminally ill. I did find some of them to have a better outlook on life than I did. I learned alot from the people I took care of and now I am a LPN at the same hospice and also work for a nursing home prn. It's the little things that make it worth it. Hey if you don't have compassion for them then who will. Anyway to answer your question. Yes I believe that most LPN programs require it to get into the program but there were many in my class that had no experience in CNA work they just took the class right before the program started. Also what are you wanting to do after getting your LPN? you need to have answers prepared for when you have the interview for LPN program. Hope this helps.
  24. Does RSU offer a LPN to BSN Bridge though?
  25. I currently added my family to my insurance through work and it cost me $400 a month for my wife a 2 kids. is this normal or is this high? Thanks I am thinking about job searching and wanting to know what to expect from hospitals in the area thanks.
