  1. I absolutely love 12 hour shifts and I Love night shift but I felt like I never had time off or was always exhausted. I worked 3-12hr night shifts as well before moving to PACU/surgery. I now work 4 10hr day shifts plus on call and I feel like I have more time off than I did before. Yes working 12hr night shifts 3 days a week have you 4 days off but every 1st day off was spent sleeping. So if your nights working were all in a row you only had to waste one day sleeping, but say you worked Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, then you pretty much had 5 days gone that week because Tuesday and Friday were spent sleeping. So I don't believe it's the 12hr shifts, to me it is night shift, even though it's my favorite shift to work, if I'm working the floor.
  2. It's sad that people say it makes you look trashy and uneducated because someone has tattoos... I'll never understand how people think that... Anyway... If you want to get a sleeve go for it, just be prepared to wear a lab coat or long sleeve undershirt if a particular employer does not allow them. I am working on a sleeve and have 3 separate tattoos around my forearm at the moment. I started it before I had a nursing job and I knew that some places would not allow them to be seen so I was prepared to cover it if I had too. Fortunately, my current employer allows visible tattoos unless management decided it is an offensive tattoo. Never once have I had anyone patient or staff say anything negative about them. It's the opposite, I am always told by patients especially how good they look and my coworkers even come to me and say that patient so and so won't stop talking about your tattoos and how good they look... Young and old patients... Good luck!
  3. No set rule but usually 1 nurse to 5-6 patients... I work in a small rural hospital on the Med surg floor... We get all surgeries, pediatrics, and chemo patients as well
  4. Zosyn, Percocet, zofran, morphine, dilaudid Med/surg
  5. We have a scanning system also, stuff that is used for more than one patient is not scanned to the patient it is scanned to the floor, such as gloves, alcohol wipes, little stuff that comes in bulk like that. The other stuff we scan to the patient. If we are in a hurry we just try to remember to save the packaging or scan it later but we still forget. It isn't just about charging the patient though... When we scan items, it alerts the central supply when we are running low on certain items so they can restock... Yes people always forget to scan but I think knowing it helps keep our supplies stocked it is an incentive to remember to scan.
  6. We have an ADT on our unit as well. She works 5 days 7a-3p through the week and is off weekends. She enjoys it and it is a huge help to the all the other nurses. She takes care of the paperwork, getting admission orders, getting the or ready for transfer, and taking them out of the computer. She is sometimes given a section of patients instead of ADT when we have a high patient census.
  7. I just got a job and figured I would have to have it covered... I have a large tattoo on my forearm. Fortunately we do not have to cover ours unless they are inappropriate (decided by the supervisor). It is usually cold though so I find myself wearing a jacket a lot so it's usually covered anyway.
  8. Not a Nike ad! Hahaha I've tried others and just seem to always be disappointed and always go back to Nike.
  9. Thanks! I love my air max nikes for working out so I was wondering opinions! Thanks again!
  10. I am about to start my first job as an RN in a hospital. I was wondering everyones opinions on which Nike are the best for working a 12 hr shift. I have tried other brands for exercise and daily wear and always seem to go back to Nike for all my shoe needs. I am sure I want Nike but I was just wondering opinions on the most comfortable style of them! Thanks!
