  1. San Diego, CA RN, BSN-Nursing Mgmt Correctional Nursing $50hrly
  2. Congrats on your position! Which location will you be working at? I also interviewed at RJ Donovan in San Diego and I recieved a call today. Now I have to do the medical clearance and TB? How long is the process for me now, if you have an idea? What else is in the process. I am so excited and could really use the highly attractive funds. I am a broke new grad living in Orange County....lol Ciao, Tunisha RN, BSN
  3. Hello Again All- Well whats sad, I love Southern California, I live in a wonderful, nice family oriented city in Orange County, where there are a few great beaches but the truth is I cant afford to live here off a new grad RN salary of $28.50 per hour. I am a single mom of a 9 yr old son. And my rent here for a small 2 bdrm is $1630. It takes me a whole 2 week check to pay my rent plus a few dollars more. I will not be able to afford a home here either. They start at $750K and up. I signed a two yr contract with the hospital for a $3500 sign on bonus. But its not worth it. Even the hospital is great, I love the staff and they are very accomodating to new grads. I really dont know what to do. I am debating moving to Dallas/Ft Worth area in the next two years, where I should be able to purchase some property and where they have a reasonable cost of living. I wish you all luck moving to the Los Angeles area, its a struggle for me but its beautiful with the best weather on the planet.
  4. How many years of experience do you have? New grad RNs in Los Angeles are averaging $25 hourly which is at the low end to about $31 hourly. Personally, I live in Orange County and I am a new grad RN. I am earning $28.50 hourly with $5 night differential. So if you have a few years of experience, you should be getting more than $30.95 hourly, if you are a new grad, then you getting the higher end of the hourly salary. Hope that helps
  5. thank you all- I made my way to Sacramento and got my temporary license today. I start work as an RN on Monday, I am so excited!
  6. hello everyone, I passed the NCLEX-RN exam, found out on the quick results.....I am officially an RN.....thank you all for your support. Now I can endorse my license to California. :balloons: T. Sheriff, RN, BSN :monkeydance: :balloons:
  7. ss07- Thank you so much for the support. I just cant take it anymore....the waiting game...just waiting to find out if I passed the NCLEX. Today, I slept all day until 4:30pm in the afternoon, the anxiety level I have just exhausted me out. I guess my coping mechanism isnt working too well. What should I be doing in the mean time?
  8. ok guys.....I took the NCLEX-RN exam today and I had no idea....lets put it this way.....after the exam I had heart palpitations and my hands were shaking like I had Parkinsons. I was trying to open my locker to get my things out and I couldnt because my hands were shaking. There was a TGI Fridays next door and I had about 3 drinks before I went home to try to make sense of the exam. I had 75 questions and I am waiting for the verdict. What should I do? How should I occupy my time? I really feel like I failed, should I start studying again? Any advise would help? Thanks guys!
  9. ss07- Thank you so much for your support. I am under the same pressure as username. I have a job to start on June 11th, and if I dont pass I cant start. Unfortunately I didnt go to RN school in Cali. So if I pass I have to fly to Sacramento and get a temp RN license so I can start working. I am just reviewing all of my systems and I am going in on Monday @2pm. Please keep me in your prayers and send me lots of positive thoughts. Thanks you guys, I will let u all know how it goes on Monday. I am so tired of studying and just want to take it already. Ciao, TSheriff, RN, BSN (as of June 4th, 2007).......:monkeydance: I am already celebrating, or will be on June 6th, 2007:lol2: :balloons:
  10. ss07 Well I prayed for you to pass the NCLEX today. My big day is on Monday and I am stressing out a little. All we can do is our best, and pray for the rest. Let us know what happens!
  11. SS07, I am praying for you too to pass the NCLEX tomorrow. You will do fine.
  12. Haley4, I have prayed for you to pass the NCLEX yesterday with 75 questions? Please tell me how did it go?
  13. good luck on your NCEX Stacie on May 31st, I am taking mine on June 4th, let me know how it goes.
  14. South Orange County, CA, I am being offered $28.50 hourly plus 5 night differential
  15. Hello All- I am taking the NCLEX-RN on June 1st in Orange County, CA. I just graduated May 12th from UNLV and I am only reviewing the Saunders book. I lost the CD during my move from Las Vegas to Cali. But I hope to be prepared and pass. I already have a job lined up to start for June 11th. Good luck to us all. Lets keep in touch, and give each other the good news when we all pass. Ciao, Tunisha
  16. I am starting my new grad position in the ER. And I will be recieving 6 months of a structured training program and I am excited. I feel that this will be more than enough time to learn my position, and thats why I accepted it.
  17. hello all- I just wanted to update you guys, my nursing family that: Today I finished my finals, and I passed everything........YEAH!:balloons: After my last final today at 3pm, I started yelling with JOY outside of the classroom while people were still taking the test...but I just had to let it out. I never thought this day would get here. By the way, I made 2-A's and 2-B's, totalling 15 credits I have my pinning ceremony, two weeks from today and graduation the day after. Now here comes the big part.....passing the NCLEX-RN...I never thought this day would get here. Got a job that I need to start on June 11th, amd hoping to pass the NCLEX before I start. Anyone in Southern Orange county that needs a study buddy for the NCLEX exam, I am here. Thank you all for your assistance. Nursing school down and NCLEX to go.
  18. Pennprincess- Thank you so much for your assistance. I have decided to relocate to California, I was offered a reall good ER position there. After a year at this hospital, I will then pursue an ER position in NY. Thank you for the heads up on salaries. I got a few calls regarding new grad positions but they only had med-surg opportunities for new grads and that is not what I wanted. Of course, they were at the public hospitals. I guess because I started my search so late in the game. I want to stick to the ER, so this is probably my best option. Let me know where you end up, good luck at NYU!
  19. There arew alot of things that you have to factor in. I am also in a similar situation, offered two ER positions as a new grad in California. Hospital One Pays $1.54 less hourly gives free medical, dental and vision benefits for the family they are also opening up an brand new ER from 8 bed to 14 bed this summer The current ER looked dreary and old fashioned the hospital uses both paper and pen and computerized charting 12.5K sign-on bonus for 18 months $3.50 night differential offer $2100 retention bonus twice a year BSN differential after 6 months, adding about .78 hourly and they did not seem to have a structured new grad ED training program Hospital Two Pay $1.54 more hourly benefits will cost me about $80 bi-weekly they have a state of the art 31 bed ER computerized charting using EPIC $3500 sign on bonus for 2 years $5 night differential and have an excellent structured ER new grad training program for 6 months I decided on hospital two, eventhough with hospital one, I could earn an additional $12,000 a year. I contemplated over these positions for 2 months now. Why? Right now I am more focused on being trained properly and getting comfortable in this new position as an RN. The money will come. After my first year, if I dont like it, I can move on to something bigger and better. With a good training program, I will be a safe and competent nurse. I would like to keep my license. I would advise taking the position that provides the best learning opportunity for you, as a new grad. After one year, I am sure you can get a better job making tons more money and you will be a safe and competent nurse. Isnt that what ultimately counts. Good luck to you in your decision.
  20. Hello All- I am a new grad RN relocating to NYC.....I am looking for a job to start at a hospital that has a good new grad program in the ER. Which hospitals should I apply to? Any word of any open houses coming up soon for new grads? I will bw staying in Brooklyn and I am willing to travel to Manhattan, Queens and Long Island to work? Please help..... And what are the starting salaries for new grads out there at your hospital? Thanks all for your help-
  21. To work in Westwood, it is a little less expensive to live in the cities of the South Bay (Torrance, Gardena, Carson). If you take the freeways in the morning, it would be hell getting to Westwood. But taking the streets are also an option. I used to live in Torrance and drove to Culver City, which isnt toofar from Westwood, maybe 5-10 minutes away and it took me about 40 minutes to drive the streets. Rent in Torrance had cost me $1000 for a 2 bedroom apt, two years ago. Torrance is a nice neighborhood, with lots of restaurants and malls in the area. I am now living in Las Vegas and planning to move back to California. But I am moving to Orange County, which is pretty far from where you will be going. If I were you, I would be looking in the South Bay cities.
  22. Hi Mintykorn- So where are you working in California? I changed my mind about Houston and decided to relocate to Orange County. I got an offer at two hospitals in Cali for the ER and really trying to figure out which one to take? Where are you working? Do you like the hospital you are at? What area are you working?
  23. With regards from Northridge to Westwood, in one word.....HORRIBLE! During rush hour time, you drive could be anywhere between 2 to 4 hours. Without traffic, maybe 40 minutes keeping up with the speed limit, but again it depends on how fast or slow you drive.
  24. Bayshore Medical Center in Pasadena, TX (Houston) is offering a $10k sign-on bonus.
  25. Hello All- I believe I have a dilemma. Hopefully someone can help me out. I will be graduating on May 11th from UNLV in Las Vegas, and will be trying my best to get an IP by June 11th, that is the start date of my new job. After calling the Board today, I am afraid I wont recieve it in time to start my job as a new grad RN. After my transcripts get mailed to the Board, figure no later than May 20th, is it possible that I will get an IP by June 11th? What should I do? I had an idea, to attempt to apply for another license in another state that is one of the NURSYS compact states? They only require an affidavit to be signed by the dean/director of the school of nursing. And then I could overnight it to the Board. Would I have a better chance of getting an ATT quicker from them, take the NCLEX and pass, then go to Sacramento for a temporary license, all by June 11th? Is that possible. I am starting to stress out now. Please help me. I need some input.
