I sent you a private message with my contact info. They offer programs 2x a year...you can find information about application posting dates under the nurse residency section of their website. The next application will probably be up in September or October but I'm not positive, you just need to check their website (and look under the nurse residency section). And as far as getting ICU, it was mostly just timing. I got called by a recruiter and they asked what kind of units I would be interested in interviewing for (besides Operating Room), she mentioned the surgical ICU so I set up an interview for that and got the job.

Hey! I just quit my job in the ICU (after 6 months) because I got a job offer at UCLA as part of the OR training program. It starts at the very end of September. Do you like you new job at the ambulatory eye surgery center? Have you tried applying to jobs out in LA? That's where I would start. Use indeed.com and apply to ambultory surgery center positions or anything that says new grads welcome/willing to train (I know you aren't a new grad but that means they don't care too much about how much experience you have). I've seen a lot of posts like that in the past on Indeed.com I would start applying to jobs ASAP so you can have something waiting when you move. Also, if you have a good chunk of money saved up you probably don't need to have a job lined up before moving. We are kinda in the same boat here so feel free to send me an email or text me (I'll private message them to you) if you have any questions. I haven't figured out a lot of logistics of my move yet but I'm excited it's finally happening!

Ambulatory! I was kinda unsure about it but during the interview they said that after six months you can apply to any open OR position at UCLA.

Hey! I currently work in an ICU in NYC but it has always been my dream to move out to LA. I applied for my CA license last August after I passed my NCLEX. I have applied to quite a few RN positions out in California and have heard back from places even though I am in New York. I think the main thing they look at is so see whether or not you have your CA license already. That being said, I think you can also pretty easily get a job in aesthetics/ at a plastic surgery office once you are out there since you already have experience under your belt.

I recieved an offer from OR yesterday

I am a new grad that started working on a Surgical ICU floor in February. I knew going into it that it wasn't something I wanted to do but that I would learn a lot/get my foot in the door at a great NYC hospital. My plan was to stick it out a year and then transfer to the OR. This hospital requires 1 year of employment before being eligible to internally transfer. I'm nearly 6 months in and completely miserable. Its not one thing...it is everything-demanding families, constant interruptions (PT, OT, RT), having to go down to MRI, having to go down to CT, tedious charting, no one wanting to help with turns, getting the pt OOB then back to bed then on the bedpan, no PCTs, unclear orders from LIPs, LIPs not taking you seriously, LIPs not keeping you in the loop etc etc. I just hate it all and don't think I am cut out to be a bedside nurse. Long term I want to work in an OR, get experience, then work for a private practice plastic surgeon/get trained in aesthetics. I know the grass isn't always greener on the other side but at least working in the OR is a step in getting me where I want to be long term. On my hospital's internal job posting website it states that internal transfers before the one year mark are done on a case by case basis. I met with my nurse educator and she said she has heard of people being transferred before the one year mark and told me to teach out to my original hospital recruiter. I did this and my hospital recruiter asked if I was available to talk by phone next week. I don't know what she will say but I'm assuming she will want to know why I don't think my unit is a good fit for me. I am having trouble articulating why in a way that sounds professional/reasonable and doesn't make me sound ungrateful/like a terrible person. Does anybody have any advice on what to say to her in this instance?

Does anyone know anything about the Ambulatory Surgery Center and Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA Ronald Reagan and Santa Monica Medical Centers for the UCLA new grad residency program? Do you think its worth it to do a residency in an ambulatory surgery center vs main hospital OR? Is anyone that chose OR for their first choice interviewing for these places

if you go to the ucla website and search new grad under careers it will pop up. make sure you apply soon because the application closes the 11th. im working in an ICU right now and I dont really like it lol. How is your new job? I applied to UCLA but otherwise haven't really applied to anything as far as Cali goes.

All you can do is keep trying. It really did take me multiple attempts to get in touch...the first two weeks i was trying I didn't even get placed on hold they just automatically said they couldn't take my call. Then the next week when I called I was being put on hold but for long periods of time and would end up hanging up bc i had to do things. Eventually someone picked up when I was on hold, it just took a while. Basically the only thing you can do is keep calling because there isn't any other way to reach them unless you physically go there

No, I just kept calling and like I said sometimes they don't even take your call and it will say something due to high volume of callers we cannot take your call at this time/ but other times you are placed on hold...so if they put you on hold just stay on the line and eventually someone will pick up

Omg they were impossible to get in touch with. I just used their normal number. Sometimes I would call and the machine would say they weren't taking any calls but a few times I called I was put on hold for like 20-30 min and got to speak with someone. I had the best luck between 1-4pm ...you just have to be persistent

I wouldn't accept the PCA position because of the one year commitment. You already graduated this summer so are out of nursing school between anywhere from 6-9 months...another 12 months on top of that is quite a bit! Ie You can still apply to New Grad Nurse Residencies in California without your license. Even though they are competitive a lot of them still accept you with 6-12 months experience...so worse case scenario get a job in a LTC/outpatient type setting in March/June when you are endorsed and reapply if you don't get accepted the first time around.

How do you like it compared to New York? How difficult was it to get a job/what area (northern/southern) did you move to/how much RN experience do you have?
