  1. Hey! What did you end up doing? I just moved over 2000 miles after a job offer (I had wanted to move out here anyway) but now I want to go back home where I've had interest from recruiters at jobs that have 12 hours shifts which is what I'm looking for. I also just don't feel like I want to work at this facility and its only been one week. I'm so torn.
  2. Hi! did you end up leaving the ICU and getting an OR position? And are you still in NYC?
  3. Hi all. I recently moved across the country (almost 2 weeks ago now) and started a new job in the OR (4 days in). However, I had my doubts about this whole thing and now I feel like I want to go back home. I like the area and theres so much I want to see and do on this coast, but I feel like its not worth being so far from family. (I'm very close with my dad and my sister is my absolute favorite person.) I wasn't 100% happy where I was at back home and never felt a strong pull to actually be there (aside from family) but I'm almost positive I certainly won't be happy being so far from the people I love the most. Everyone says to stick it out a few months, give it a chance, etc, but the learning curve is so steep in the OR especially considering I only have 1 year and 3 months experience under my belt from my previous job. I have a few job prospects back home that reached out to me before I left at hospitals that have 12 hour shifts which I sorely miss and I know that if I get back to 12s I can take plenty of vacation time to see and do the things I want to out here. I just don't feel its fair to my employer or to myself to invest ~3 months learning the ins and outs of a new OR if I don't see myself sticking around too long. Any advice?
  4. Edit: I am licensed in CA
  5. Hey! So I currently live and work in NY in the OR at one of NY's top hospitals where I've been since last July. I have a year and half under my belt also as a float RN (med/surg, tele, rehab, biu) before this job. I am moving to CA (Los Angeles) as soon as possible. I am planning to stay in the OR or even something like a plastic surgery office or aesthetic nursing. I have some family and a boyfriend out there so I do have a (small) support system in place already, as well as a lot of money saved up from living home with the parents. My question mainly is does applying while still living in NY hurt my chances of landing a job in CA? Should I just make the move and apply once I'm a CA resident? I know they always say to have a job lined up before you move but I want to make the move asap and like I said, I have the advantage of a decent amount of money in savings as well as no student loans or major debt. Any advice would be appreciated!
  6. Hey all. I'm in my senior year and next semester will be doing my preceptorship. My advisor was of little help and I'm not sure what my best move would be. My school does not offer any sort of ICU or critical care nursing course, and I've been told that ICU or CCU experience is good to have under your belt. In terms of where I want to work in the future- I HAVE NO IDEA! (which makes this extremely difficult.) I don't like working under pressure (mainly when I don't feel prepared or knowledgeable) so I think the ICU/CCU would be a good experience because while shadowing a nurse I will be able to see what they do, and become more comfortable in such situations. I have an interest in OR but I'm not sure that's offered and I don't think much would be gained from an OR experience. I guess I'm wondering if Med Surg or step-down would be my best option in order to see most of what goes on? Any advice is appreciated!
  7. Hi everyone! I'll be entering my last year of nursing school this September (BS program) and am due to graduate in May (fingers crossed). I live and go to school in New York but am seriously considering moving to California. I'm wondering if it will be possible to get hired in a new state fresh out of college, or if I will more likely need a year or two experience in my original home state before being hired in Cali. Or if it would make no difference at all? Any advice or information would be appreciated! Thanks!
