School Nurse Services Credential Nurse in California
@sergel02OK so my HR told me that she could help me with that and it would cost $100. She wasn't sure about the rest? Do you have to go to school after this and I don't understand the difference between the credential and clear credential.

best shift for new nurses?
i am planning on working night shift on med/surg and that was really helpful.. thank you for ur tips!!
-
from nights to days??
I'm going to be working night shift on a med-surg floor as an extern this summer so the responses you will be getting would be interesting to catch up on. Currently, I have been working day shifts and it's pretty easy to just politely get another nurse or preceptor's attention and ask them a question. You should never feel stupid asking a question b/c a nurse should understand where you are coming from since they were once brand new, too!

Nursing School Dress Code: All White Scrubs
Oh wow... all white! That is a tough one, at least my school allows white tops and khaki pants. HOpefully lots of bleach will do the trick for ya!! Besides that, I'm sure others will understand if you are not completely stain-free during ur shift because we are still new nursing students there for learning and gaining experience!! :)

California patient Ratio
I understand exactly where you are coming from, but other than that, I'm not sure what else you can do besides working ur chain of command!

How does Nursing rank in comparison to other majors in difficulty?
At my school, nursing is a pretty stressful and tough major. Although, when I'm sitting @ home studying & everyone else is out partying I like to tell myself, "If nursing was so easy, everyone would be doing it!" :)

Nursing Salary...
Curlyfries: Some hospitals around my school are offering the 20/40 Financial Assistance Program for Registered Nurses. Here's the link: http://www.memorialmedicalcenter.org/jobs/index.html You should check if they have that around your school or where you are planning to work and look into it. They help you out financially, but there are some catches to it. I believe you have to work for them as a full-time registered nurse for two years for every two semesters you are receiving money from them while you have to work part-time @ that hospital and enrolled in the nursing program @ the same time. Good luck!

Nursing Salary...
Wow, I'm surprised this became such an interesting topic! I guess there's such a big difference in a nurse's salary based on where one lives. I have some nurses who live in my neighborhood and they are pretty much "bling bling" bc they seem to be able to afford to go on vacations, Hummers, convertibles, basically nice cars, bikes, boats & nice houses. My friend's aunt is an RN, and she just bought a 1.6 million dollar house!

Does the term 'Nurse' bother you?
I totally agree with that!! Go Roy Fokker! :)

Nursing Salary...
Well, I guess in my area.. professors, friends, fellow classmates, and family thinks thats where all the money is at...
-
Nursing Salary...
Thanks everyone for the quick replies! :w00t: A girl in my class also told me that after she graduates she wants to move to the bay area where nurses make 80K. Well, in my area in CA, RN's make about $29-45 so I don't know how good/bad that compares to other areas. Let me know! Thanks...

Nursing Salary...
I know that money doesn't indicate the amount of care, but when I talk to my fellow classmates, it seems like all they care and talk about is rushing out of the program and will do anything it costs to do it so they can start working full time at a hospital ER so they can buy themselves a fancy shmancy house and car. Thanks Irisinthemorning and William_SRNA for the helpful comments!

Couples in nursing program together?
Hey everyone!
-
real bed baths on classmate?
Wow.. I have to be doing that in two weeks, but @ our nursing school we get to wear our swimming suits. Well, at least you guys will be getting more experience on how its going to be like in an actual hospital. Good luck with that!~

Nursing Salary...
Whenever I tell people that I'm going to nursing school everyone immediately jumps to the topic of how much money I'm going to make and how I'm going to be so rich and asks me what kind of house/car I'm going to get. I didn't go into nursing for that so it really bugs me how people that are going into this profession (especially my classmates) want to be a nurse for the money and thats basically all they talk about it. It doesn't seem like they are the kind of future nurses that are going to be caring towards their patients at all. Does anyone find this somewhat disturbing or how to handle these kind of comments and misperceptions?

Does everyone seem negative?
At Modesto Junior College, they are accepting applicants based on the lottery system now! I hope that helps you feel more hopeful towards getting into a nursing program, plus they are accepting more people each semester than 40 a year at Stan State. :) Although I hope I didn't sound too negative when I was giving you some information about Stan State's nursing program. It's just that I wanted to let you know that I had to do extra work than just getting "good grades" to get into the program. My older sister who has 3 kids is trying for the RN program @ JC and she hears a bunch of negativity there that scared her, and actually most of it is untrue so maybe you should find more factual information than just relying on people's word of mouth. Also, if you really love nursing, I don't think you should be worried on how many yrs its going to take for you to accomplish your goals as long as you are giving it your best, the studying should be all worth it!

Help with time management
Maybe you can get a calendar and write down everything in there and the amount of time you should be spending on each thing you write down. That's what I do and it helps me feel organized and prepared!

Tips for nurses in their first year of nursing
wow this was really helpful!
