Do you know what the curriculum is?

I moving to VA from MI so this is one of the schools I was checking out too. I talked to a counselor and she was evasive about the cost which tells me it's an arm and a leg. She did say they are having an open house in April though. I downloaded a list of nursing colleges in VA and darn I can't remember what site I got it from, but it may have been the VA Board of Nursing site. Anyway I don't think this schools accrediation has been approved.

For the 2nd degree option: When I asked about a "waiting list" or how difficult it was to get in the presenter said it wasn't a problem. The bottom line was that if "x" number of people apply then "x" number of people will get in. She also said that if more students are admitted than anticipated then they will open up another section; in other words split the class into two sections. Oh yeah, you can also apply to the program before finishing your pre-reqs. They also dropped chemistry as a prereq. The good points of the program for me is that the class sizes are small and you start and finish with the same group of students. I think she said also that you are broken down into groups of 6-8 students too, but I'm not sure. Plus there are loads of support organizations on campus. My guess is that the cost of the program keeps the "riff-raff" screened out so no need for a wait list. I e-mailed my transcripts yesterday for evaluation. The nurse info meeting is the 3rd Monday of every month.

I'm at WCCC too! Any recommendations on instructors for pre-reqs? I'm currently in micro and will take a/p 250 and nutrition next semester.

I know I'm replying to an old thread, but I'll throw my 2 cents. I attended the UDM nurse info meeting today and I thought it was very informative and the program outline looks good for the 12 month 2nd degree option. The academic program for 2nd degrees goes from May to May. Yes, it's expensive, but in long run it will be worth it. According to the info packet I received the program estimate is $36K, but I don't think that is too far off from what private Ivy League colleges cost. I suppose the homeless roam the campus since the college is ran by Jesuits with big hearts. The college is gated all around, but when I entered the campus the unarmed "gate guard" looked like a freshman which would not be a deterrent to any criminal.

My husband I moved from Germany last December and it is truly a beautiful country. I really miss it. We lived in Stuttgart and there seemed to be a number of dependent spouses who were nurses or some type of medical assistant. A lot of bases have closed but there a two major hospitals there: Landstuhl and Heidelberg. I don't think you will have a problem finding a job since a lot of the community is very transient and remember too that a lot of active duty personnel have been deployed which free up spots for civilians. Up until today I had not considerd the Army for any nurse training. However, a client walked into my office today (I work in community on a military base) looking for relocation info to Texas. His wife is finishing boot camp and then will do her AIT (91W) at Ft Sam; the school is 18 months. I have an appointment to speak with a reserve recruiter tomorrow so hopefully I will have more info. My impression is that the Army will work with you since retention/recruitment are very low compared to the other services. You need to attend an accredited university for your BSN.

We'll, I thought I would be superwoman and work full-time and take a/p 2 and micro together, but I will finally have to admit defeat. I had a a/p test and it was the test from hell. Nearly everthing I studied was not on the test. Out of 72 I got 40 correct answers and the class average was 38! Then the next day I had a lab practical in micro and couldn't find any specimens on my slides. So I'm dropping a/p and will just concentrate on micro.

I have another semester of science pre-reqs then I plan to apply to a nursing program. I've spent the last 20+ years in admin/HR. I got the idea to become a nurse while working in HR at a hospital. Another thing that cinched the deal is that one day I wandered into a happy hour after coming from yet another interview for a HR position and I met a nurse educator at a nearby table and told her of my plan. She was very encouraging and helpful. I plan to apply to several schools in my area, but it that doesn't pan out then I'm prepared to move to another city and commute -- husband isn't too happy with the commute idea, but I'll cross that bridge when the time comes.

What did you make a CD of? I have a digital voice recorder but I have yet to figure out how to transfer the lecture to CD.

Thanks, I will look it up. LKG6: No, it can't be an on-line article. All articles have to be from a managzine or newspaper. We can't use medical journals either. I've been mostly looking at Newsweek, Time and Popular Science. We have to copy the article and submit it with the sumamry.

Every month, I have to summarize newspaper/magazine articles on a microbiology topic. If anyone sees any articles please let me know. yvette

just wondering if there would be interest in studying using yahoo messenger? We could ask questions and quiz eachother in real time. I'm taking A&P II and micro.

We started on the endocrine system and now we are on blood. First test is in two weeks on endocrine, blood, cardiovascular, & lympathic systems. We also have to do a paper on a topic from the book. I'm leaning toward a reproduction topic. Last week there was a small mutiny in the class. One loud mouthed student (there's always one) said she wasn't understanding the material and couldn't figure out what informaiton was testable, etc. I can appreciate that some people don't get certain stuff, but she was just totally obnoxious.

For those that have taken the NET how did you prepare? I'm good at reading,comprehension,english, but my math is that great. Do you think a pre-algebra refresher would be wise to take?
