  1. Hi all, I am hoping to get some opinions on my dilemma. I am currently trying to decide weather I should pursue nursing or respiratory therapy. I am in my 40's and have decided to go back to school now that my kids are older. I have suffered from social anxiety my whole life and Im trying to find out if nursing or RT would be a better fit for me. I have worked as a cna and did fine because the job was mostly task orientated and the social interactions I had with the residents and nurses were brief and on my own terms. I have also worked as a waitress and failed miserably. Having to interact with people constantly and be "on" for hours on end was just too much for me. Im trying to decide which direction to go in. Any advice for me?

Where do you think the RT profession will be in 5-10 years form now? In a better state or worse? My niece is trying to decide between RT and RN although she wont be rdy to enter shchool for another 5 years. Thanks for all the info.
  3. At my school you had to retake any science or math classes that were older than 7 years.
  4. Just wondering Laurynq16, you said you were in the radiography program previously. Did you take it at JJC and if so what were your thoughts on the program? Have you worked as a Rad Tech?
  5. Just got my email saying Im a qualified candidate and will receive further instruction in the next two days regarding proceeding to the next step of the selection process. YAY!!
  6. Thank you guys for replying. I will order the fingerprint one.
  7. You said you are in IL. Are you near Chicago?
  8. Im am sooo sorry you had to go through and are still going through this ordeal. It seems so unjust and unfair. Those incidents where over a decade ago. A decade seems like a lifetime ago and I know i am in no way the same person i was 10 years ago and apparently neither are you. You paid for your crime. Enough is enough. I hope good things are in store for you. You definitely deserve it. Can I ask, did both of the dui's end up in convictions or were they eventually dismissed? Did you write a letter to the BON explaining how you were self medicating after some traumatic experiences and that you are in a better place now?
  9. Hi Jules, Yes, I do think it would be better if the BON would tell me upfront if I can get licensed, before attending school. I agree with you. Unfortunately the BON does not see it that way and will only say that they will make a determination on a case by case basis after I apply to take the NCLEX. Its stressful to say the least...
  10. Has anyone gotten their email yet stating when we should go in and submit our essay?
  11. Best of luck to you guys!!
  12. How did it go? Did you take your test?
  13. Have you guys taken Bio 250 yet? Im wondering how difficult the class is. I was going to take it with my first semester nursing courses but my adviser said that while it can be done, they advise against it because the class is so intensive.
  14. Wow, I think this reply it totally uncalled for. The OP has a right to feel the way they do and they have a right to feel they might be happier in a different profession.
  15. When I worked as a CNA, I hate to say it but everyone always asked the two male cna's to help first when heavy lifting was involved. Its not right...but it did happen.
  16. I am no longer a CNA (I let my certification expire as I am pursuing nursing school now); however, when I was I worked home health. One assignment I had was to help a quadriplegic woman with her ADL's (personal hygiene, showering, dressing, transfers, bowel program and driving patient to run errands and go to medical appts). Once I started this assignment, this persons mother also had me cleaning all the areas her daughter (the patient) used. I ended up having to clean the bathroom, dust and vacuum the patients room, computer room and living room, wash the floors in the bathroom, living room and kitchen, wash the patients dishes etc. I was required to do these things every shift. Looking back, I have no problems with washing my patients dishes and keeping their area tidy but Im wondering about the other stuff. I felt like the majority of my time was spent cleaning. Is this normal or was the patients mother taking advantage of me?
  17. I can imagine working as a RN for that. You should be insulted! Where I live, they are raising the min wage soon to $10/hr.
  18. Yes, I do feel they are worth it but I also felt the practice tests were harder than the actual exam.
  19. I spoke with a nursing administrator who said they had close to 200 applicants the last go around and they accepted 72 students. Those are pretty good odds I think. Did you take your TEAS exam yet?
  20. I used the TEAS study guide and did the practice tests ATI offers. Honestly, I thought the practice tests were more difficult than the actual exam.
  21. Didn't you say in a earlier post you got a 79.5% last time you took the TEAS? Can you just use that score you do they make you retake it? It seems like 79.5 is a great score! I would be worried about retaking it and god forbid, for some reason the new score is lower....
  22. I chose "prefer days but can do evenings". Honestly I could do either program as I have weekdays off and work on the weekends but I have the most amount of energy in the mornings lol. Im so thankful that they offer both a day and evening program. I wonder where they hold clinicals? Are you interested in the LPN program or the RN? Best of luck to both of us!!
  23. This is good advice.
  24. Hi guys! I just took my TEAS and got a 79.3% composite. I have an appointment with an adviser next week. Does anyone know what the daytime program vs evening program hours are?
