  1. Thats the problem, many don't do assessments sadly!
  2. Yes but the hospital will get rid of you! They don't have to prove a thing!
  3. Exact and on the point! I have been in many aspects of nursing and always loved it! I quit bedside nearly 2 years ago and now more have left! They want more, and more, and more! And you are right, they sit in their office looking at pie graph and charts telling them we should be able to do more! Then the funny part, they wonder why people are leaving "how can we keep people?". Bottom line, treat nurses , and all employees, with the respect, kindness and dignity you expect us to display to an ever demanding, unappreciative patient population! Not to mention sicker and bigger than ever before! I could go on and on but I think everyone gets the point from OP post. Good Luck to all you new nurses out there, I can't tell you how glad I am that I'm not just starting in nursing. It's a very sad situation!
  4. Very true! My animals are my children too and you sacrifice what you must to accomodate them!
  5. Hopefully you took your beloved dog to a no kill shelter! Owner surrenders are euthanized first at many shelters. Really sad you didn't realize the responsibility before you got the dog!
  6. Yes indeed it happens everywhere! It is not the place it occurs it is merely the person and their attitude toward life! The person is more than likely the same no matter who they are dealing with.
  7. Notifying M.D. was mandatory in our facility. And if doc gets upset, too bad, that's their job! Always document you contacted doc too, just in case there's a problem.
  8. One thing, always remember to never post anything you don't want the world to see!
  9. Though parameters on many orders from physicians would make life easier for all of us, the physicians rarely give them. Hardly a cause to lose your license. Beside pain is an individual perception! A level 4 pain to one person may be equal to7-8 to another. It should be based on the individual patient. That is good nursing practice.
  10. You know in situations such as that if you are trained, it is rather hard to sit there and worry about doc order. You do what you need to and I find it hard to believe anyone would fault you. You could have done nothing, would you feel better?

  12. No they really do not! We all end up dealing in our own way!
  13. It's not just peri-operative, it is in all fields of nursing! That is why so many seasoned nurses are leaving! Admin just doesn't get it! Unfortunately, the people left behind are the ones who suffer.
  14. So very true! I was just thinking the same thing. After 30+ years in ER and ICU, so many things have happened that I had forgotten, probably intentionally. To think of them is very sad. Life is Life and Death is part of it. We do the best we can do as humans, sometimes it just isn't enough!
