As a New grad in 2015, I was given a job within 2 weeks of graduation from nursing school..(Without having passed the nclex at the time of hire. (Which I of course rocked the following week)) I graduated with an ADN and only 8,000 in debt that I paid off within 6 months of graduation.

I've never been late... Not once. And the only day I've asked off for was a day I traded to attend granny's funeral... Seems like you're trying to make excuses for your constant lateness and lay-offs... It does not sound like she's being unreasonable

Nurses take an oath and vow to care for others. Treating people like dirt doesn't fall under the scope of caring and healing.

This is accurate, unfortunately. Before becoming a nurse, I worked as a "lowly" secretary. (I say it that way because that's how some of them made me feel) I remember The way that some nurses talked and treated people like me, as if we were beneath them... And I would wonder: how in the world were they actually caring for their patients if they are treating people that way. Now that I am a nurse, I am lucky to work with many nurses who are caring and actually nice. I strive not to be the nurse that I despised before I became one. I smile and acknowledge the doctors in the same way that I do the cleaning crew. But, I also work with some who think their "-sh-" doesn't stink. They speak to coworkers, patients and family like they are slime. Just don't become one of the bad ones...

Hello! I'm a 2015 grad, working in swamped, understaffed medsurg. I don't understand why people keep asking WHY the BP was taken at 2am... We are required to take vitals at midnight AND 4am at my facility. Also, we have scheduled meds throughout the night for some patients... The problem here is obviously the way the hospitalist treated the Nurse... Yet multiple people are trying to ignore that. (I will add, we usually don't call for BP until it gets above 180, but that's a judgement call I suppose) And to the person who asked what the treatment would be for a 170BP... (As if there were none)- clonidine 0.1mg po x1

Unions had their place and purpose, 40 years ago. Now they just waste time and money and cause problems. Plan your vacation. If time rolls around and they refuse you your days off, go anyway. We don't live to work, we work to live❤️

August 6, 2015, I graduated Nursing School. On September 14, 2015, I started my brand new job as a Registered Nurse on a med/surg unit, 4 minutes from my home. Tomorrow will be 6 months from my graduation and I can't believe I have already been gainfully employed for about 5 of those months!!! I had been putting in applications two months prior to graduation, thinking that they would get overlooked (as I would be a new grad.) I was wondering how we would survive if I hadn't gotten a job by October, November or Christmas! I couldn't believe how fast it all happened. I had accepted the position even before taking the NCLEX! From reading posts on here for the past couple of months, it seems like this happened so easy for me ... compared to others here. I am amazed when I see posts about being 8 months or a year out of school and not having a job yet :/ Every day as a med/surg nurse is a learning experience. It stresses me out to no end. But, I love working as a nurse. So thankful. p.s. Just paid my student loans offff!

4 minutes 12-14 hour shifts A "reasonable" commute would be 30 minutes I suppose... But I am very lucky! I don't "think anything" of coworkers who have to drive from further away. They love their homes and their jobs, that's what matters.

I don't feel that it is paying dues... Since night shift differential is offered. But to each their own

Dreading Colleagues I am surprised you still have a job as well. It does show character and promise that you seem to genuinely care about your patient's outcome. Go forth and triple check.

Please try another hospital, or even a different unit in your current hospital. I graduated in 2015 as well. I am also experiencing gossiping nurses, which is unprofessional, but they are very helpful to me. They always offer help, they'll even give two rooms of meds for me when I'm behind or start an iv if I need one. Keep looking for better coworkers. It will make the job easier to stand.

Ruby, sounds like you are most certainly a part of the problem. It is interesting how you tried to spin it to make it seem like the non-gossiping nurses are the ones in the wrong... But I guess that's how minds like yours work.

• Yes, Yes. Being uncomfortable with your coworkers, on top of the stress from the actual job? Who can last? It is No wonder that nurses aren't being retained. At our facility we have lost at least 5 nurses in the four months I have been there. • It is certainly not that I care what negativity they are spreading... It's all about the "awkwardness"
