  1. It is my understanding that interviews are done now but I don't know that for certain.
  2. Hmmm could you clarify, are they contacting 200 people for a speed screening for PICU? I asked her today how many people are doing the speed screening and she said "about 30." 200 seems very high for one unit, right? Although its a very popular unit to apply to so maybe it really is that high.
  3. I have some friends who got calls tonight offering in person speed interviews for PICU next week.
  4. Congrats on your interview offer! Writing portion isn't that bad. You are timed and you complete it in a separate room. It's not anything you need to prepare for. She specifically said that we should not tell other students what the topic is so I'll leave it at that! Don't worry about it, though.
  5. I think R is just giving us a heads up email because the graduate division website isn't sending out the acceptances as fast as they should or something. That explains why some peoples portals haven't been updated, myself included.
  6. hey! That's what my email said too. It's my understanding that we have been admitted to the program. My email said: "It is a pleasure to inform you that the School of Nursing has recommended to the Graduate Division of UCLA that you be admitted to the Master's Entry Clinical Nursing Program beginning Fall Quarter, 2016. Please be advised that FINALadmission decisions are made by the UCLA Graduate Division. You should receive the OFFICIAL notification from the UCLA Graduate Divisions within 2 – 3 weeks" my understanding is that this means the nursing program has accepted us and wants us but the graduate division technically needs to approve it, and why wouldn't they? Every school does this where you get accepted into the program but then "final acceptance" comes from the university. It's a formality. If someone lied about their transcripts or something and they didn't really have a bachelors then the university would turn them down. Otherwise why would they override the nursing programs decision, ya know? do folks agree with my understanding of this?
  7. Not sure about the cost. In fact, the cost for the whole program is a little confusing to me if anyone could illuminate me on that one. Is it like $48,000 for the first year only? Does that include predicted housing costs? If you take epi somewhere other than UCLA just make sure they accept it!
  8. Hi there! I was accepted to the MECN program for Fall 2016 and I was wondering if there are any current students who would be available to answer some questions about how you like the program either here or in a private message. Thanks!
  9. Hello! I was accepted to UCLA's MECN program for Fall 2016 today and I am hoping I could ask some questions to current students. Is anyone down to answer some questions either here or in a private message? Thanks y'all!
  10. I did EAOD on the 11th but will not be accepting the offer because I just found out I got into UCLA. So thats one more spot open for interviewers! I'm sure there may be more depending on where people get in and what they want. Keep your head up!
  11. Just got an email from R and was accepted also, pretty stoked! In an attachment to the email it said that I still need to take the epidemiology class and that enrollment is guaranteed if you have been accepted into the program. I did not get the impression that that was the case for other classes people might need (anatomy etc). Basically every MECN student probably still has to take Epi so they guarantee we will get into that class.
  12. I also haven't heard anything yet this year. Very different from last years rollout of information. Good luck everyone!
  13. Hey guys! I'll be interviewing early March. 1 out of 3 doesn't sound too bad!
  14. Last year all acceptances, waitlists, and denials came in that order within a few days of each other so we should all hear back very soon.
  15. EAOD was great! Seems like the current students we met really loved the program and had good relationships with their professors and the staff. I definitely got the impression that students are very well supported there (options for tutoring, LEAD will help you edit your papers even via email, great lab to practice in and the cohort seemed to be all about supporting each other). I got 100% positive vibes from the place and think anyone would be lucky to go there. The obvious downside is the cost and the location. Ultimately any school is going to be expensive and you will have loans to pay back so its great that this program at least allows you to get a job faster and start paying it back sooner than other programs might. It also seemed like a lot of students commute to school (between 30 mins to an hour from what I was hearing) and that aspect was doable because its against traffic. It's still my second choice because of the cost/location but I would be totally stoked to go there.
  16. To answer your question, the other program I have interviewed at is Cal State LA for their ABSN program. It's significantly closer to me, much less expensive, and highly ranked so it's definitely my first choice. Though Western seems really great too and my friend LOVED it. I'm excited for tomorrow! Hope to see many of you there!
  17. Can someone who has already attended EAOD and been offered an acceptance clarify something about the deposit for me. If we give our deposit that is essentially saying we are going to go to the program, correct? Is there any consequence, other than losing $500 buckaroonies, to changing our mind after paying the deposit and choosing a different program? My issue is that Western seems like a really great school and I have friends who have gone there and loved it, but location and cost wise it's just not my first choice. It seems like because I am going to EAOD next week and they may very well offer an early acceptance shortly there after I'm probably going to lose $500 if I make a deposit and end up getting in somewhere else (just had an interview for another program today). Am I reading this situation right? Is it just a $500 deposit or am I signing some kind of binding contract saying I will definitely go there? (please note, I do not take a $500 deposit lightly, I am terrified of losing that kind of money but even more terrified of not paying and then getting in no where. If offered, I will pay). Thoughts?
  18. Do you know for sure that the hospitals you have looked into that require a BSN do not accept the MSN instead? I would be surprised if they didn't value the MSN more but honestly I haven't looked into the job market at all yet so I really don't know. As far as the financial part I agree that its a very tough decision. The way I think of it is at my current job I make VERY little. I work full time and I'm still on Medi-Cal. So if this is the only program I get in to I would rather go here now and get on the road to eventually making money rather than waiting another year, definitely not making much money, and hoping to get into a less expensive program down the line. Not sure if that makes sense but it feels less risky to me to take a sure thing this year then hope that I will get in somewhere less expensive in a year. Waiting a year is a long time. But do what you gotta do!
  19. I heard from the office today and they verified that if EAOD people for Feb 11 are offered an acceptance they will have 2 weeks to make a deposit. So probably mid March based on what I'm seeing here from people saying it took two weeks to get an acceptance after they attended EAOD. See you there, Loveoverhate!
  20. Someone asked for people's stats. Mine are 4.0 in prereqs 3.7 undergrad worked for 3 years essentially as a Medical Assistant (not certified) and clinic coordinator Work with kids with special needs in education and as a caretaker Those were my stats last year and I had one class pending (physio) and they encouraged me to apply anyway and I didn't even make the wait list. Their feedback was that I needed to talk more about my multicultural diversity and that overall my statement of purpose could have been stronger (I read it again this year and I agree- yikes) This year I got my CNA, am now volunteering at a hospital, and I applied to a lot more schools. I 100% don't expect to get into UCLA. All of my friends who went to this program already had a Master's in Public Health from very impressive schools or were doing extensive research at UCLA and had an in there. It's tough to get in for sure. I only applied because I live so close so it would be silly to not try.
  21. Today I got an invite to the EAOD on Feb 11! Yay! Looking forward to checking the place out. For people who were offered early acceptance is there an early deadline in which they have to decide whether they are going to definitely attend the program? What is the deadline, does anyone know?
  22. I just looked on the website and didn't see it there but I had it in my notes about the program so I must have read it somewhere. When I applied to the university I got a confirmation email that they received my application and at the bottom of the email it said: "Now that you have applied, request official transcripts from all colleges and universities you have attended to be sent to our Admissions and Records office." So it's entirely possible that you didn't notice that part of the email because it just seemed like a confirmation receipt.
  23. Do we have any idea of how many interview invites this program gives out?
