  1. It is definitely possible to work and go to school. Not everyone can do it but I think there is plenty of people that say this because they were either too lazy to work while in school or didn't want to give up their party time and want to feel better about their decision so they try to convince others that it's "impossible." I work between 40-60 hours a week while going to school full time. I also have a family with a wife that stays home with my children so I also have no other choice but to work...it can be done. You just have to want it bad enough...school won't last forever and you'll be proud that you accomplished something so great and will have set yourself up to succeed later in life.
  2. I just finished my CNA class yesterday and it was 120 hour course. There is no way to get everything you need for the CNA test in a day or two. Don't try and skimp on the hours, do the required hours or you'll be sorry when you're not prepared for the test. That is if you can even take the CNA test, in WI I'm pretty sure that you have to complete a recognized course or you can't take the state test.
  3. Working full time is definitely possible. I work 50-60 hours a week as a full time student. I'm an Advanced EMT for a local EMS service and a CNA for a local nursing home. Any work in the health care field right now can only help me because it's giving me something to put on my resume for after nursing school. You can make it work if you really want to.
  4. General A & P- A Intro to Ethics- A College 101- A Nursing Assistant- A With the completion of this semester I'll be able to petition for the core in March to start in the fall. I look forward to being able to move into the actual nursing classes and move that much closer to completing the program.
  5. I don't know about nursing classes yet but as for my AEMT class, we practiced most things on each other. IV starts, IM, Sub Q, inter nasal....most things. It definitely helps because like stated before, I don't think it's fair that our first attempt on a real person is someone who is sick/hurt/scared...start it on people that know it's coming and are willing to accept it. A real arm is night/day different then the fake dummy arms.
  6. I'm not saying it's for everyone...not everyone can work a ton of hours and still pull off good grades. But there is always ways around it if you deem it necessary to work, don't just shut the door on working just because others say NO ONE can work and get good grades. Do I agree that not working and focusing on school is ideal? YES!!!! If I had that option I would take it in a heartbeat, the fact of the matter is that I'm supporting a family of 4 while furthering myself in school to earn more so I don't have that option. As stated before, everyone's needs and situations are different. As a matter of fact I don't require as much sleep as some, I get around 4-5 hours of sleep a night. 40-60 hours a week...Like I said, I'm an AEMT so a lot of my hours are spent at the station doing homework so I get to duel role while at work. All I'm trying to say is that it CAN be done but if you don't HAVE to, don't.
  7. I know how you feel...I'm a father to 2 children, 5 and 3. My wife is a stay at home mom so in addition to doing school full time I work full time and try and find time for my family. It's HARD but well worth it in my opinion, you just have to push through. By the way, where in WI are you taking classes...I'm in WI myself.
  8. I'm in the first year of my program and work 40-60 hours a week. It's not easy by any stretch of the imagination but with 2 kids and a stay at home wife I have to do what I have to do. I'll be extremely happy when this is all over so I can relax a bit but until then I keep plugging along. My grades haven't suffered much as I still have a 4.0 but I'm sure that it helps that I'm an AEMT.
