  1. i have alot of friends who left nursing for a much higher calling... motherhood :)
  2. i've been on "vacation" for about a month and a half already...usually as soon as you step inside their human resourses department they'll ask you when you can start! well maybe the healthcare staff strike has something to do with it too huh???
  3. OMG!!! i cannot believe you don't know what a watch with a second hand is! :)
  4. i'm not married to a nurse BUT i am married. hey, as long as you're with the person you love. it'll work out fine. goodluck!
  5. they give computer tests everyday. it depends on you. as long as you meet their requirements, paid the necessary fees and they send you your authorization to test...you can schedule your test whenever you want. allow about 5 hours for the test. the computer stops when either you've met the passing score, reached the maximum number of test questions or sadly if you failed. but don't you need to pass the cgfns first?
  6. computer turning off at 110 is both good and bad. good because your test is done. bad because now you'll be stressed from waiting.
  7. i agree with that. heck! i can be a street sweeper, expect to make money out of that and still help people. nobody will criticize me for that. but for nurses, as soon as you say "good pay"...all heck brake loose . goodluck on your job search. i hope you find your nitch.
  8. skin might have grown into the upholstery and she probably had alot of bad skin issues being left in the sofa with her own waste. this is very sad. the so called husband needs to answer for this. it's not enough for him to say . that is unacceptable. shame on her so called family.
  9. i know what you mean...i work nocs too...also, i have a 2 year old son who keeps me awake the whole day...i'm thinking of either changing to eve shift or find a 10 or 12 hour/day shift...at least i'll be working less days...more time to sleep :)
  10. it differs by state...like in ny you can retake it every 45 days...in cali every 3 months.
  11. i remember somebody once told me...everybody can pass the nclex, it's when you pass that differs. try reading or enrolling in kaplan courses. they teach you how to take the test and how to look at the questions. hang in there.
  12. if the mother said breastfeeding...breastfeeding it shall be. it's not for the nurse to decide how to feed the babies unless it's her own child. i wonder why the mom's doesn't question why she doesn't do feedings at night? my son had to stay in the hospital for about 2 weeks (he was premature) and we've decided to bottlefeed our son with my breastmilk. that's our choice. my son is 2 years olds now and thankfully, he's healthy, strong ang without complication from being born 6 weeks early and just a little over 3 pounds.
  13. i haven't even read you post but with the subject title alone...i would say YES...take him...even if you have to trick your husband...your gut feeling tells you to do so. i have the same prob with my hubby. i had to tell him that we're going to see our son's pedia. surprise, surprise......at least i was sure he was OK
  14. not in our hosp...they usually start the new grad in the day shift...where our supervisors said "all things happen"...family, docs, labs, chaos...i started nocs because i'm a night person (even with a 2 year old boy), but i did about a week of AM orientation. hope you find a shift that will suit you perfectly. good luck!
  15. in california...it only list your full name and action in your license...NOT and NEVER ones home address...i didn't know that they did that in some states:eek:...that's scary:chair:...granted patients has the right to check if the person taking care of them is licensed BUT they don't need to know where you live.
  16. my, my...i do believe you're happy??? :balloons: congratulations!!! :balloons:
  17. i've worked in an LTC for awhile and i don't think one can work in that kind of an environment without being close to the residents. you take care of them for long periods of time. get to know them and their family. they trust you. they share their fears, their pain. it's impossible to NOT get close. but being friends and being their nurse should work hand in hand. i trully believe that you give better care if you care for the person.
  18. not to that extent BUT i did work with a very dedicated nurse in an LTC. she does eve shift (2-1030) but is at work by 1pm and does NOT leave until about 4am (although she clocks out at 11pm) just to finish her paperworks. she used to be in the military but honestly, i don't know why she can't manage her time. she has a medication aide, who gives all the meds. i really don't know how hectic it gets during her shift...i was just thankful that she did not leave me unfinished work. :)
  19. :uhoh21: i dunno about that...i still like having my period even if it's icky. i use a patch. at least i know when i'm having my period that month...i can schedule around it.
  20. :balloons: good job!!! :balloons:
  21. hahaha...i like that. this same facility put their troubled staff on call but never calls them. forcing people to quit rather than fire them so they don't have to pay unemployment. i'm really not worried about burning any bridges. also, i never signed any contract with them. i've work in this facility for about a year and i've gone through4 DNSes already. that tells you something huh?
  22. NEVER pretend you know everything!
  23. hey! me too! i wanted to take law enforcement (but my dad was against it)...i did take pre-med for about a year (but thought...this will take a loooong time to finish :) )...ended up going to nursing school. i thought i was the only one who had that career thought. though i did wanted to be a nun when i was younger. :)
  24. NOT by our facility's management we're basically on our own.
  25. i've handed my resignation letter yesterday giving the facility about a week and a half to look for a replacement for me...since i'm off the following days i figure might as well place the end date on my last day of work. my DNS called me this morning telling me that she will NOT give me a good recommendation because i didn't give them 2 weeks notice. mind you, they know before hand that i have plans of moving and i was just waiting for my husbands work to give us the go signal. i've worked there for a year, worked almost every weekend with 30-50 patients. they didn't hear any complaints from my co-workers/patients about me . now i'm being treated like i did some major mistake by her not giving good recommendation. should i be worry about this? would it affect my future employment?
