  1. Hi! I will be starting my last semester of nursing school this winter semester. The last rotation I had was in Psych and I loved it! So now I am trying to locate any hospital or private facility where I can start as a psych nurse (GN). However, I'm n...
  2. IV Meds

I wasn't sure where to post this question, because I am a student, not an instructor, but I have a question. I was searching this forum and noticed that most of your students give IV meds in their first year. I was shocked! Because at the program tha...
  3. POLL: How far in debt will you be???

I'm not exactly sure, but I know that it cost me almost $20,000 for my pre-req's and about $20,000 for the nursing program itself. But Ihave been in school for almost 11 years, so those loans include other classes.
  4. Our department tutor, who is also in the RN program and highly intelligent, just failed Med/surg II(our srping semester) with a 78%. There were no greviences that he could file, no student reps to talk to and the dept. chair basically said:to bad so ...
  5. I'm a postin' fool this morning!!! LOL! Forgive me, but I haven't been able to post since I started in Sept., so I'm very inquisitive this morning! How was everyone's first year? or second? Aside from the normal nursing school gripes, it wasn't too b...

  7. Are all RN programs like this???

Thank you for all of the replies! I guess the reason I am so upset is because he knew the material better than anyone. He could explain the patho inside and out. He could explain anything you wanted to know inside and out. The problem is with the way...

Hi everyone, I've been recently accepted into SC4's Nursing Program. I am very excited. However that is my backup school. I am really hoping to get into Baker (Clinton Township). I have a 4.0 and just took the NET Test and am awaiting the results...

  11. Are your tests timed?

Hola, I took my first 2 exams today. The first I passed and the second I won't know until next week. I was just wondering if it is typical for a Nursing test to be timed. All of them are, in every course. They allot 1 minute per question. Durin...
  12. No I wouldn't recommend nursing

I don't have the stamina to go through the entire 25 pages. But it makes me sick to hear people say that nursing is a terrible career! I am only a student. But here's what I want to say. What did you expect nursing to be? Some glamourous job wher...
  13. How did you pay for nursing school?

I am in my first semester. I am receiving $4500/ year from financial aid, $10,000 a year from government loans and a ton more from private student loans. I decided not to work while I was in school. I felt it was more important for my little ones ...
  14. Anybody here going to SC4???

They don't have a year to year waitlist. They put people on a waitlist to fill the spots of the people who drop before the program starts. Once the program starts, they drop the waitlist and everyone who didn't get in can just reapply next year. Oh,...

  16. How to patients react when...?

Great question. I haven't had clinical yet, but the senior students tell us when someone asks "Have you done this before?" You simply answer, "Yes, countless times." It seems to work I guess. And of course, you may not have done them on a real pers...
  17. I am just curious to hear stories or thoughts about this. For me: there is nothing else that I can imagine doing with my life. Have you ever seen the movie "Pay it Forward"? I guess that's how I describe my desire to become an RN. I was a preemie ...
  18. Working and Nursing school

Heck yeah I did. I can't imagine working, raising kids and going to nursing school. So I got approved for a private student loan. I can take out $30,000 a semester if I want. But I am only taking out $30,000 a year. It's actually more than I mad...
  19. What kind of Backpack?

I've been told a rolling scrapbook storage thingy is great to use. It has ton of compartments to hold all of your writing utensils and is biggest enough to hold all of your books. So I bought one. I got my from Jo Ann's. They usually have 20% off c...
  20. Where do you prefer to study at night?

It depends what I am studying. I am an auditory/ kinestetic learner with certain subjects, so I read aloud to myself. Usually I read my books aloud to my kids while they are playing. Or I read while running on the treadmill. Then for other subjects...
  21. First day

Oh you made my day!!! That is totally something I'd do!!!:rotfl: Good Luck on your real first day, though!!!
  22. How much hours of sleep do you get at night

This may sound strange, but if I don't exercise regularly, I need 8-9 hours. If I exercise at least 30 minutes a day, I am better focused during school and only need 3-4 hours a night. I awake completely recharged and rested! Vitamins help tremend...
  23. I know government loans you can get away with that, but private loans, I'm not sure. Try searching "no doc" private student loans. Good Luck!
  24. Private student loans - good lord!!!

Wow! Now that's dedication! I have 3 children under the age of 6, so I had to decide: the kids or work. Obviously, the kids won!
