One night, I had a patient who was complaining of a new onset of chest pain. The patient was also hypotensive, and tachycardiac. I put them on oxygen and got an EKG before calling the doctor. When I did call and gave a report of what was going on, the doctor wanted to know why am EKG was done with the low blood pressure and tried to tell me that it wouldn't be accurate 🤔

I take my scrub top off in my car only because I have an hour drive home. My shoes come off as soon as I walk in the door of my house because they were super expensive and I only wear them for work. I wash my scrubs separately and only once I've worn all 6 pairs because they are black and I don't want lint from everything else on them.

Unfortunately, that's the way it goes sometimes. The residency program I'm in is anywhere from 50 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes away, depending on traffic. Also, nothing says you have to follow through with it if offered a position or stay there very long. I plan on using it as a stepping stone to get where I want to be and I had a few friends use it as a backup plan in case they didn't get hired on anywhere else.

Start looking into hospitals that offer residency programs. A lot of places won't hire a nurse fresh out of school unless you were a tech in that department. Most residency programs conduct their interviews well before schools have graduation.

I'm in Florida and graduated from nursing school in December. While in school, our teachers told us that it is easier to apply to the board in the state you graduate from then have your license transferred to wherever you are moving.

I took mine through HCC and it was $49. I'm sure there are other places, but I'm not sure of the costs or if they meet the program's requirements.

Yes, it has the same start, withdrawal, and end dates as everything else. The main difference between nursing and any other degree is that you are not considered full time for the pell grant, unless you are brave and take extra classes. This is the only semester I have gotten my full pell and that is because there is a separate mental health class added in the third semester. Another key difference is that there are no classes for the summer. There are nursing electives that are offered (pharmacology and assessments) but you have to pay out of pocket for those.

I would definitely do the physical early, especially since the vaccines are a part of it. It took my doctors office 3 weeks to get my titer results back to show I'm immune to MMR and hepatitis b. The CPR is up to you since it is only good for 2 years and you will have to renew it before your last semester.

First and foremost, I would like to congratulate all of you who made it into the program! I am currently in the third semester, so I know what it is like. Also, I am the president of the SouthShore Student Nursing Association. If you guys have any questions, I'm here for you. Also, for those of you who want to switch with other students, they will let you do that at orientation. In order to switch, it has to be a 1 for 1 swap since the classes start full. Also, don't delay on getting your shots or paperwork done. That is the number 1 reason why people have problems in the process.

We got our campus assignments a couple of weeks after our acceptance. If you look back through the thread, you can see when we got them. They don't send them out until after everyone has either accepted or declined and the alternates are selected...hope this helps

I started a different one for the fall but I'm switching since I got into the nursing. As far as the color of the stethoscope, I don't know.

Be sure to keep the confirmation of your background check! They tried to say a person in my current program didn't do hers, but she was able to prove otherwise.

There is a maximum amount of credits you can have for financial aid. The way it was explained to me is that it doesn't pay once you have a bachelor's degree

I think they consider past experience as well

The liability insurance is the same as health insurance. You have to show proof that you have it incase something happens to you while at clinicals.
