  1. Hello. I have 2.5 years of experience in an ICU and recently moved into a 9-5 job in a different state. I really miss the critical care side of nursing and would love to pick up a PRN job to keep up with my skills. However, I have heard some places make you do a week long hospital orientation. How long was your orientation? (I am not talking about the unit orientation. I am talking about the orientation where you have to do electronic medical record training, etc.) Since my 9-5 job is pretty new, I won't be bale to take an entire week off for another hospital orientation.
  2. Hello. Something recently happened at work and it has been really hard for me to get past this. Before I start, management has been amazing and did everything they could for me after the incident. I work in an ICU and was helping a patient (not mine) with the primary nurse and the patient physically assaulted me and then threatened to rape me. Now this is not the first time that I have been physically assaulted, mentally, emotionally, or verbally abused but this was the first time a patient threatened to rape me. I can't even explain how that threat makes me feel. The police got involved after but no charges were placed due to the patient's condition. People say I shouldn't listen to his words but I just can't get past this. Anyone ever been in a similar situation?
  3. Hello guys. I'm wondering what the best CCRN test prep book for 2018 is so I can purchase it and start preparing! I know that there are multiple forums but I want to find the most up-to-date prep.
  4. Hello all. I was wondering if there is a nursing path to specialize in infectious diseases, similar to what infectious disease specialists (MDs) do. I'm not talking about infection control nursing. I'm talking about diagnosing and treating the infections that are not commonly treated by primary healthcare providers. Thank you in advance.
  5. So for my pre-requisite courses I had a perfect 4.0. However, when I got into nursing school, I became pretty much a straight B student. Although my overall GPA is above a 3.5, my nursing school GPA is just above a 3.0. Do I even have a chance of getting into a good NP school? Do they rely heavily on the GPA? Do they look at the overall GPA or just the nursing school GPA? Thank you in advance for your help.
  6. Hello all. I'm a new grad and I'm about to start working in the ICU at a large hospital (Still don't know which one. We rotate through all of them before finding our "home"). I'm wondering if anybody has any tips or resources they recommend! :) Thank you. I know that starting in the ICU is a major learning curve and I just want to be as prepared as I possibly can.
  7. Dang. How were you able to see so quickly?
  8. Yeah I ended up getting a personalized name badge reel! Thank you so much for your help :)
  9. Thank you for your help. The reason I'm asking is because a friend is starting her job in the PICU and I want to buy something for her birthday that will help her with the job. She is really excited and I want it to be a little surprise! Do you have any suggestions?

  11. Hello. I was wondering what pocket book would be good for the pediatric ICU. Should I just buy a critical care pocket book? Any help is greatly appreciated!
  12. Hello all. This semester I have a night preceptorship but still have day clinicals for another class and lectures for nursing school. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips to prepare for night shift and how to make the most of my preceptorship! I'm looking forward to the challenge :)
  13. Hey all. I understand this is an old thread but I really want to apply to this program but cannot find it on the Parkland website. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  14. Hello all. I would like to ask one of my teachers to pin me for my ceremony and I would love to do it in a creative way. Any ideas? Thank you in advance for your help!
  15. Hey guys! I was wondering if they sent emails out for the video interview before the application was closed. I am applying for the July 2017 cohort.
