How long was your hospital orientation for a prn ICU position?
Hello. I have 2.5 years of experience in an ICU and recently moved into a 9-5 job in a different state. I really miss the critical care side of nursing and would love to pick up a PRN job to keep up with my skills. However, I have heard some places make you do a week long hospital orientation. How long was your orientation? (I am not talking about the unit orientation. I am talking about the orientation where you have to do electronic medical record training, etc.) Since my 9-5 job is pretty new, I won't be bale to take an entire week off for another hospital orientation.

How do you deal with a rape threat from a patient?
Hello. Something recently happened at work and it has been really hard for me to get past this. Before I start, management has been amazing and did everything they could for me after the incident. I work in an ICU and was helping a patient (not mine) with the primary nurse and the patient physically assaulted me and then threatened to rape me. Now this is not the first time that I have been physically assaulted, mentally, emotionally, or verbally abused but this was the first time a patient threatened to rape me. I can't even explain how that threat makes me feel. The police got involved after but no charges were placed due to the patient's condition. People say I shouldn't listen to his words but I just can't get past this. Anyone ever been in a similar situation?

Can I Work as an Infectious Disease Specialist?
Hello all. I was wondering if there is a nursing path to specialize in infectious diseases, similar to what infectious disease specialists (MDs) do. I'm not talking about infection control nursing. I'm talking about diagnosing and treating the infections that are not commonly treated by primary healthcare providers. Thank you in advance.

GPA for Applying to NP School
So for my pre-requisite courses I had a perfect 4.0. However, when I got into nursing school, I became pretty much a straight B student. Although my overall GPA is above a 3.5, my nursing school GPA is just above a 3.0. Do I even have a chance of getting into a good NP school? Do they rely heavily on the GPA? Do they look at the overall GPA or just the nursing school GPA? Thank you in advance for your help.

I'm wondering if anybody has any tips or resources they recommend! :) Thank you. I know that starting in the ICU is a major learning curve and I just want to be as prepared as I possibly can.

What to ask during a recruitment fair?
Hello. I have been told that at this recruitment fair I am attending, there might be managers. If I am interested in working in the ICU, what are some good questions I can ask that might help me stand out (in a good way)? Thank you in advance.

What are ICU managers looking at in a cover letter?
Hello guys. I am currently applying for jobs and I really want to work in the ICU. During my rotations I have realized that I thrive in a high acuity setting and love the autonomy that ICU nurses have. I feel like I can really utilize my critical thinking skills in this unit and I was wondering what nurse managers are looking for in a graduate nurse cover letter. Thanks for all of your help!

Is it appropriate to wear flats to an interview?
Hello all. I am currently a nursing student and next semester I will be searching for a job. Our school practices the interview portion this semester and I was wondering if it is acceptable to wear polished black flats to an interview. To me it doesn't seem too logical to wear heels in the hospital because you are doing a lot of walking and now I've noticed more interviewers like to give a tour of the unit to the interviewee. What are your thoughts? Thank you in advance for the help!
