  1. What I got from a Ohio State edu website that we've been using in clinic: ORDER OF BLOOD DRAW: Blood collection tubes must be drawn in a specific order to avoid cross-contamination of additives between tubes. The recommended order of draw is: 1. Blood culture tube (yellow-black stopper) 2. Non-additive tube (red stopper or SST) 3. Coagulation tube (light blue stopper). A light blue stopper (sodium citrate) tube is NEVER the first tube drawn. If a coagulation assay is the only test ordered, draw a non-additive tube (red stopper or SST) first, and then draw the light blue stopper tube. Fill tubes at least 90%. 4. Additive tubes in this order: Heparin (dark green stopper) EDTA (lavender stopper) Oxalate/fluoride (light gray stopper) Draw all trace metal tubes first so as not to contaminate the needle by puncture of the vacutainer stoppers Hope this helps
  2. on the up side, remember that until the pt gets proper wound care, the maggots are keeping the wound clean--they are only interested in necrotic tissue. And did you know that if everybody stops talking and the room gets quiet...you can hear them eating?:chuckle They sound like Rice Krispies! (this from my Registered Vet Tech days)
  3. Now. Do it while you are still in school-mindset...
  4. None of the docs I know would be caught DEAD at the Y! Nosirree, the trick is to belong to the most expensive club in town so that everyone present knows just how important you are when that pager goes off (and the doc can then broadcast his/her irritation loudly on his/her cell).

  6. hahahaha! Now you're coming around! i'm glad this worked out in a way that was more comfortable for you. Although i will hope there won't BE a next time for you, at least when/if there is, you'll feel better prepared to handle it from the get go.
  7. Heather-- You have the whole rest of your life to acquire burnout and hate your job...why start now? :wink2: I'm only half kidding. Yes, i'm sure working the med/surg floor right out of school would have been good for me, too. Kinda like eating my vegetables. Don't sweat it, hon. Just remember that you work to live...don't live to work. subtle
