  1. Hello everyone. I am CVICU nurse with a BSN and I have always had an interest in possibly becoming a CRNA. I live in the Los Angeles area and I am looking at Loma Linda and CSU Fullerton/Kaiser's programs as possibilities. My issue is if I understand correctly app GPA is calculated using the last 60 units which means my GPA is pretty low at 3.36. My GPA when doing sciences and prereqs before my ADN program was 3.9 and my overall is 3.76 including my BSN bridge program. My issue is I got a lot of Bs during my ADN nursing program that drops me down for the last 60 units. My question is what do you guys think I should do? I'm considering doing a MSN to not only advance my education but to boost my GPA. Does that sound like a good idea or should I just take my chances and apply? Thank you for taking the time to read and reply.
  2. I'm applying to all the schools I can because where I live all the adn programs are lottery. There's only one BSN program that's close enough to commute to, I'm applying to that and 4 ADN programs. If I get into the ADN program I want to and the BSN I will probably choose the ADN program because it's so much closer to me and it's the school I took most my classes at so it's familiar.
  3. Physio English Political science Philosophy I will finally be done with all my previous reqs and general ed after fall, all I will have to worry about from then on is nursing classes only. I started fall 14 so it's taking me the 2 years that most people usually hear about.
  4. Hi everyone I'm getting ready to apply for Fall 2017 at CSULA too. I have some questions if you guys could please help me out I would really appreciate it. I took the TEAS at CSULA and on ATI's website it lists my selected school as CSULA, so will ATI automatically send my scores to CSULA for me? I volunteered at a hospital in high school for a little over 100 hours and I don't know if it will count, can anyone clarify? I would sit in the volunteer office and wait for a task to be assigned to me. I would run samples to the lab from different departments and I would move and discharge patients with a wheelchair, would this meet their standards? I'm finishing physiology at my community college in the fall (mid December), would I be able to meet the application deadline in January for fall 17? My profs will probably upload grades by Christmas (hopefully), so if i got a rushed transcript I could get my application in on time? I read somewhere you have to apply to CSULA in October or something and then the SON by January, can someone please outline how the application process works I have no idea, thanks so much for reading.
  5. Hi everyone I have some questions for fall 2017 since you guys already went through the application process I thought I would ask you about it. I took the TEAS at CSULA and on ATI's website it lists my selected school as CSULA, so will ATI automatically send my scores to CSULA for me? I volunteered at a hospital in high school for a little over 100 hours and I don't know if it will count, can anyone clarify? 6. Ever since I started college I was worried about the big bad scary TEAS and now I finally got it over with. My individual score is 76.7% and my national percentile is 82%, are those good scores? I did not really study for it other than reviewing the math in the TEAS study book, but I probably should have studied more considering I usually do much better in English than math, but on this exam it was the opposite. Anyone else take the TEAS V before they change it to the new TEAS? How did you do?
  7. Thanks for the reply. What do you think the average study time for the TEAS is? I found a CC that offers physio in the summer for 5 weeks (4 days a week, 8 hours 2 days a week because of lab) and I am considering taking the class to meet the Spring '17 deadline for the schools I am preparing to apply to. I am going to have 5 or 6 weeks to study if I decide to try to meet that deadline, that should be more than enough time right?
  8. Hello everyone. Do you need to take physiology before taking the TEAS or will studying from ATI's book and using their practice tests be enough? I noticed on the TEAS website that on August 31, 2016, they are going to scrap the TEAS V and start administering a new ATI TEAS which will require a new study book and make the one I bought this year obsolete. If I wait to take physio in the fall before taking the TEAS, I would have to spend a lot of money again buying the new book and start studying all over again with the new material, so I am considering taking the TEAS in August before that date so I can use the TEAS V score to apply to programs. I have taken every science pre req (taking micro this semester) besides physiology. I'm planning to take physio in the summer, but I do not think any of the cc that are in reasonable driving distance to me are going to offer it in the summer. Thanks for reading.
  9. Hello everyone. I could have taken microbiology and physiology together this semester and met the deadline (September) to apply for spring 2016's nursing program at my school. I still have 3 more classes I need to finish besides micro and physio, but they're not prerequisites for the program and I could have taken them while I waited to see if I got accepted or not during the summer and fall (lottery system). Should I have taken micro and physio together this semester knowing that I most likely would not have gotten an A in both (since it's a lottery system I do not think a B in one or both of them would hurt), or did I make the right choice waiting to take them separately, making sure I can focus 100% on each and guarantee I get an A in both? I currently have a 3.9 GPA (my only B is in anatomy, almost got an A) and my school only counts anatomy, microbiology, and physiology for the science GPA (the A's I received in biology and chemistry will not count), so if I finished with a B in one or both of the remaining science classes I have my science GPA would be pretty poor. The reason I am thinking about this is I am going to miss the September deadline to apply for spring 2017 since I will be taking physiology in the fall, so I will have to apply for fall 2017. Since it is a lottery system I might not even get in the first time I apply despite how good or bad my GPA is, so if I don't get accepted I could be possibly falling behind one year because I didn't take a chance and take micro/physio together.
  10. That's ridiculous how did you not get accepted with a 4.0? So if someone gets 1 B and has a 3.9 they're not good enough? We're human we can't always be perfect, I didn't think 1 B would be the end of the world.
  11. All A's in chem, psych, art history (the professor needs to chill they made this class way harder than it should've been), and PE/basketball (nursing program requirement). This semester bumped me up to a 3.9, my only B is in anatomy. I still have humanities, cultural studies, micro, physio, stats, and political science for 2016 and I will finally be done with my prerequisites and general ed/bachelors requirements!
  12. Just took my last quiz/test before finals on Thursday...I am so ready for this semester to be over already. Four finals left before a two week vacation (taking a winter class). I am not as lucky as you though, I still have to take more prereqs up until fall 2016 then I can apply for the fall 2017 nursing program. Good luck with finals everyone!
  13. Thank you so much there has been so much confusion for me about this. I'm going to apply to my CC's ADN-BSN collaborative program, some other CC's ADN programs, and to CSU's just in case to cover all bases lol. I'm pretty sure I'm on track to finish all the correct transferable prereqs and GEs. I'm going to try meeting with a counselor again to make sure the classes I'm on track to finish meet the transfer requirements. One of the schools I want to apply to transfer to is CSU Los Angeles. If I can transfer into a BSN program I much rather do that then spend an extra 2 years going through a CC.
  14. Hello everyone I have a question that I haven't been able to get a straight answer from counselors at my CC. If I finish all of the prerequisites and GE at my CC and transfer to a university to get a BSN, how long will it take? I have heard 4 years from some and 2 years from others (not counting years spent at the CC just at the university). Would it be 2 years at the university once you transfer then you get your BSN or do you still have to do 4 years at the university? Thank you.
  15. Hello everyone I have a question. Should I load up my schedule so I can finish my prereqs and GEs 1 semester early? I would add Afro American studies to this semester as an online late start class (Fall 2015). Then I would take Stats OR Humanities and Political Science in the winter, then I would take Micro and Physio in the Spring, then finish in Summer 2016 with whatever classes I didn't take in the winter (Stats or Humanities and Political Science). If I do this I can meet the application deadline for my CC's Spring 2017's nursing program, but my GPA will probably go down (it's 3.8 at the moment). If I stick with my current plan I will be applying for the fall 2017 semester. Should I risk getting an average/below average GPA or stay on my current path which will take like 8 more months and keep a high GPA? Keep in mind the 2 or 3 CCs I will be applying to are lottery and I'm confident that no matter what I can meet the cut score for the lottery. My current schedule (fall 2015): Chemistry, psychology, art, kinesiology. If I add the Afro American studies online course that would be here. Winter 2016 would be: Statistics OR political science and humanities Spring 2016 would be: Microbiology and physiology Summer 2016 would be: Statistics OR political science and humanities. The deadline for the Spring semester at my CC is in September and the deadline for the Fall semester is April. Sorry for the long post and thank you for reading.
  16. I started in fall 14 and I'm finishing all my prerequisites and general ed/transfer requirements by fall 16 and that's as a full time student taking classes every semester (spring-winter). It takes what seems like forever but it's worth it OP. Keep in mind this is with my passing my psychology AP exam in high school so I don't need to waste a semester with Psych 1, I can go straight to Psych 41. Also, I was placed in to the perfect math and english classes after taking my placement tests so that helped lessen the amount of classes I need to take. Imagine if I was placed in lower division math and english classes? It would take me forever lol.
  17. Yeah that's the plan lol I'm kind of stressing out about the TEAS because of the whole accepting your first score thing. So hypothetically speaking let's say somehow you don't meet their score for the TEAS what happens? Can you basically never apply to that school? And I know it's a "lottery" but deep down inside I feel as to a certain degree it's not purely a lottery, but either way I'm trying as hard as I can do get the best grades possible, thanks for the advice!
  18. No I still have a long way to go I'm going to finish my prerequisites by like fall 16
  19. Well those are still nice numbers and the most important thing is you got accepted. Nice TEAS score. Thanks for the info everyone, good luck with nursing school!
  20. I don't know how to feel about this system. One counselor I talked to said that it is 100% a lottery when I asked them if they were bsing or not with the lottery system claim. Another counselor I asked said that it's not purely a lottery system. I really don't want to get stuck applying over and over and over again and not get accepted because I'm not lucky enough to get picked. On the other hand I don't want to take out huge loans to go straight to a bachelors program lol. Is is true that you get priority if you apply again?
  21. Do the posters in here that were accepted mind posting their GPA and TEAS scores? I would really appreciate it, thanks.
  22. I want to attend LAVC's ADN program. They use the Chancellor's Formula and their cut score is an 80. If you meet that score then you have to pass the TEAS V, only your first TEAS V score counts no retries. The formula is calculated from your overall gpa, science prereq gpa, english gpa, and prereq science repetitions. I should be able to make the cut score but I've read so much about how competitive GPAs in LA are like 3.8 and up.
  23. It looks like I am going to end up with a really high B in anatomy and there's nothing I can do to bump it to an A even though I am so close. This is the first grade I'm getting that is not an A and I'm really disappointed that I'm losing my 4.0 GPA although I worked so hard in anatomy. I still have chemistry, micro, and physio left for my science prereqs. Is my margin of error much lower now that I am going to get a B in a science prereq? I basically have to get an A in those last 3 science classes to have a chance right? I've heard so many horror stories on how difficult and competitive it is to get into nursing programs in LA (LAVC, Pierce, etc).
  24. Congrats! I'll get back to you in a year and a half when I'm done with the prerequisites lol.
  25. I heard that muscles were much harder than the bones but it was the opposite for me, maybe my professor made the lab part not as hard as I thought it would be? I got a 39/50 on the lab portion of the exam for the bones but I think I did much better for the muscles (will get it back after spring break). Each bone having like 5 different parts with different names is what made it hard for me, a muscle is just a muscle. The bones being separate and the muscles being part of a limb or full model also made it easier for me. I think I barely have a B in Anatomy so far and we still have 2 exams and I final to go. You can do it OP! I sure as hell hope I can, I'm not getting anywhere close to my schools nursing program with a C in a pre-req science class.
