Hi.. everyone. I am currently working at LAC USC, and received soft offer from VA greater LA. I love working at LAC USC but pay was not that good, yet I only live 10 minutes away. LAC USC offers annual increase for RN one per year 2%, I get 14 days holiday pay, 2 wks vacay (1-2 yr of service, county annual leaves different based ion year of service, 3wks for 5yr or more service, 4 wks for 13 yrs of service, and 5 wks for 20 yrs of service) and 96 hr sick leaves. And County system pay is salary base not biweekly. VA HR told me that VA offers 13 days holiday pay, 8hr annual leaves and 4 hr sick leaves per pay check. If I do my math, that equivalent to 5 weeks annual leaver and 104 sick leaves. I don’t have information on how often pay increase and % of increase. I wonder if someone from VA LA location can give that information. VA soft offer is 10-20% more than what my current LAC USC salary. Plus 3 more weeks vacation. However I would have to commute 40minutes to an hours to VA compare to 10 mins drive from my home to LAC USC. FYI I am Special Procedure RN work at GI Lab at LAC and getting VA specialty procedure area too. I don’t know how it is in VA in term of special clinic. I understand med surg in VA might not follow CA nurse to patient ratio. And I wonder if clinic RN will be deployed or float to med surg in the VA system? During Covid-19 first & 2nd surge county clinic RN was deployed to med surg. Any advice will be appreciated, thank you in advance for all the response.

Hi.. JENFKB, I came across to apply for VA ambulatory care in grater LA, would love east La location. I would like to find out how is the ambulatory schedule, and responsibilities. And how is my chance to get in? I have 7 months working experience in medical surgical in private community hsptl at East LA. And 8 months and still counting working at county medical center-GI lab (which I love the schedule and patient population). Currently, temporarily being floated to med surg floor for COVID-19 surge. I will complete my BSN by next month and thinking to expanding my nursing career at VA. My understanding that VA nursing job is very competitive, I don’t know if I even qualify with less than 2 yrs experience. any advice will be appreciated.

Thank you for the informative advice, I definitely taking them to my consideration. I had apply few skills nursing facilities with no luck as well, but I will try dialysis clinic and rehabilitation center. The reason I choose CO, because I see some one offers New grad RN position at So Cal, I also have few friends and family members there. I am sitting here thinking there much more demand of Rn in CO, I am glad have the feedback and knowing it is also challenging for new grad at CO.

Dear Nursing Friends, Just want some advice, opinions. I am recent new grad at LA county, I have my ADN and get my license at March 2019, in progress for my RN-BSN online. getting a job as new grad is very competitive at So Cal. I have been applying many facilities (including SNFs), with little to no hopes, seems to be other candidates are more competitive than me. Even if i invited to interviews, there are possibly 50-100 candidates and only fortunate 5-7 candidates selected. I know many people said that I just graduated dec 2018 it is consider normal that i could not land a job yet; however, I think the longer I waited for job the less competitive I will be. Maybe in the future of my application, the employer will ask, why you graduated like more than 6 months ago and you could not get a job? I currently volunteer at hospital for more than 2 months in hoping that they will open door for me to get in; however, they said they only takes 3 new gard RNs, I still have to competed with many other volunteers, and seems the new grad program has been postpone. I would like to ask for RNs out there at Colorado especially Denver, Greeley and Colorado Spring. What is the chance for new grad RNs? what is the pro and cons moving to CO with family. The big challenge for me to move CO is because I am married with 2 small children, my husband have a stable job with USPS (he is contract CCA, not a career position yet, so he will not be able to transfer to USPS, CO). Do you think with my own RN income at CO i will be able to afford living for my family of 4? I am speaking of housing and child care.

Hi.... Alexx I wonder if you get in the NSC RN-BSN online. I would like to hear reviews of the program, how the school supports the student? a clinical hour? I am thinking to apply for full online RN-BSN at NSC, I live at California and mom of 2 small children. Will it be hard to do full time? Any advice will be appreciated

Hi... I’m glad that I found this post. I know this posted since 2017. I am currently thinking to apply to NCP, I just couldn’t find a related post. How are you guys? Do all of you get accepted and does any of you have been starting working as Navy Nurse? How do you like it? How is the deployment? I’m recent ADN new grads. I am planning to apply for NCP Program once I get accepted to RN-BSN Program. I am also currently still processing my citizenship, as one of the requirements is has to be citizen. I am little bit hopeless. My cumulative GPA during ADN program is 2.77, I wonder if I am still qualify for NCP? Any advices will be appreciated. Thank you, mery

After you applied and choosed LAC as your primary school, you should contacted the financial aid office to checked on your status. If you approved school will send award letter. I just contacted her last Friday, however she just back from her vacation, so she said she hasn't had any chance to checked on anything yet. about the 2x2 photo, when we need that photo? I did not heard anything about photo from the school or HR.

Speaking about the clinical, does anyone know the schedule that we get from pre-registration is already include the clinical, or it will be added hours on top of that schedule?

That just orientation schedule, and yes, we need to attend the orientation. I thought we have to take BSL with Them. I was not sure about it though.

I have no idea about the drug test. I actually got the information about the health clearance when I scheduled the life scan with the other lady name -------------.
