Ditto as above, in the same circumstances and agree with what they are saying - I'm lucky that I usually work 3x 12hr night shifts in a row each week. So I do enjoy my 4 days off. As for getting tired at the end off a 12hr shift - the first few hours then the last few hours are usually our busiest time, so you actually get your second wind and are very alert and efficient for the last few hours of the shift (working interventional ccu off a cath lab). As above again, yes only you can choose the best decision for yourself. Family does come first. Good luck with your decision and I hope everything works out well

Its been a few years since I've had someone pass away on my shift. But like the few posts above I think it's an honor to prepare the person for transport and reflect on their life and what time you might have nursed them for, treating them with respect. It does help to speak to them and treat them as if they are still there. All the places I've worked, a nurse always escorts the person to the morgue to fill in the official paperwork for booking them into the morgue for identity reasons. There are always two people, the second person is usually the wardsperson.

Yes he was inspiring. Walking straight off the field just after the race but comming back a short time later after watching the race on tape to give an interview. Showing no malice and being very open. Great sportsmanship! I especially liked watching the weight lifters, especially the two Aussie 105+ breaking the records one after each other.

Has anyone been watching the Commonweath Games? There has been some great moments of sport and mateship by all the countries.

No I did not let on that I was a nurse the one time that I was a patient in hospital. Even after many years of nursing experience, I still find that if I am looking after a nurse or doctor in some practical situations like giving an injection I guess it is natural to feel more aware of what you are doing and how you are doing it, so it does make you a bit more nervous at the time. I have found that you can usually pick up if a patient has some medical experience especially nurses by the way they act and the type of questions they ask

Hi anectine02 I have worked in many Sydney Hospitals. The uniforms mainly consist of navey blue pants and shoes with different corporate style shirts depending on the hospital in the general ward area's. Many hospitals in the same area health area will use the same corporate shirt. The hopitals usually have a uniform room opened once a week somewhere, where you can order your uniform. Until your uniform arrives you can usually wear the navey blue pants with a white shirt. You can also usually pick up a second hand uniform advertised on staff notice board in the hospitals. As stated previously outside the general wards, many of the units do either wear scrubs or navey pants with a unit logo shirt. Nursing agencies all have their own uniforms as well, but they will usually supply a logo shirt before you commence work.

G'day all from country NSW. Just spent the weekend travelling thur Kangaroo Valley and the surrounding area. It's so green and fresh down here at the moment. Not like at the beginning of the year! Better to get out and travel than watch football, but then the grand final match was pretty good. Go the tigers :chuckle

In the last hour, of my last day, at my last placement as a student nurse, I had just finished attending to a patient at his bedside. Someone called from across the room for assistance. I turned around quickly to see who this was and I accidently tripped over the cord of an Indwelling catheter and went flying half way across the room, hitting my head on the end of the next bedend nearly knocking myself out, gaining a egg size lump in the process. I was so embrassed but very glad to not have done any damage to the attached patient of the IDC, luckily the tubing had been very well secured.
