30k now? It was 15k back in 2006. WOW. I am looking to go back for my RN now. I loved galen but I think that is out of the question now

Do you and your husband a favor and start putting your application in other facilities. Nursing is far to stressful to go to work every day and hate your job. If those people are annoyed at you that is there problem, not yours. Everyone needs to start somewhere. Sounds as though they are burnt out or bitter. Be confident that you will learn what you need to. I have been a nurse for 2 years and it took me that long to feel comfortable in my job. My charge nurse hates LPN's. I have been blessed however that I work with a bunch of great RN's that have no problem helping me. If everyone is like that, you work in a hostile environment. It's not unusual for nursing to change jobs. Good luck.

Here is a poem from a different perspective. Makes me think.... You were my nurse today. I didn't ask to come here. I didn't ask to stay, but this old tired body broke down and now here is were I lay. I used to be young and energetic, I used to laugh and dance But life has put a toll on me so I no longer have that chance. I remember getting dizzy and I fell right to the floor The next thing I remember was paramedics coming through my door The pain is most un-bearable; they say I broke my hip I wanted to call on you to help me but I had to bite my lip You came in with a smile and I thought you would help ease the pain But when I turned on my call light, outside my door I heard you complain I heard you with another nurse as you talked of last nights date I didn't want to bother you but the pain simply could not wait With a frown on your face and a grumbling in your voice, you asked "what do you need?" Although you were my nurse today, I felt I had to plead I didn't ask to be here, you made me feel a bother I am not just an old needy woman lying in a bed, I am someone's friend, sister and mother. You were my nurse again today, and I didn't want to call But it's been two days, my sheets have not been changed, and I haven't been bathed at all I have always done for myself, I have never needed much, but how nice it would be for you to pay attention to me and a little human touch. You were my nurse today, how I wish I could go home, But I had rods put in my hip and they say I cannot be alone Someone else was my nurse today, what a change from the days before. She seemed happy to take care of me and never made me feel I was a chore. You were my nurse today what a difference in a life you make Thank you for loving your job and doing it for my sake

I have been an LPN for a little over a year now and I still hear comments about it. I am 40 years old now. I am confident in my decision to become an LPN first. Every one has their path in life. "To walk in my shoes"! No one person can assume what may be the best for another. I have noticed that nursing is not the only job that someone comments "why didnt you...". Live for yourself and your family. Try not to let anyone make you feel inadequate about your decision. Life is short. If I were to become fatally ill and on my death bed, I am not going to say to myself " I wish I would have become an RN, BSN, MSN, ARNP, MD. I want to know that I touch as many lives as I could while I was here on earth. Good luck and God bless.

I work on a busy med/surg floor as an LPN. We average 6 to 7 pts. If I have high accuity, I will sometimes refuse my 7th. 6 is too much most times. We have an average of 2 new post ops coming in for each nurse every day except weekends. PCA pumps, q15 vitals, set ups incentive spirometers, walking TMJ's. It all can be very daunting and exhausting.

Tampabay area hospital LPN's make about $15 to start. Long term care 17-21. Agency about 20-23. Hope this helps.

I have been an LPN for a year now. Before I became a nurse, I heard all about the RN hating LPN debate. I work on a very busy medical surgical floor that has both LPN's and RN's. Here is the conclusion I have come to. In my hospital, the RN's have to do ALL the pushes with the exception of a few meds. They are busy with their own patients so I feel very bad asking them to do so. I can understand it can be a frustrating for them. Nursing is a very stressful job. I have come to the conclusion that it is not that RN's give attitude. Its that we are ALL overworked. I have worked with some amazing RN's and some not so amazing RN's. I have also noted that LPN's give the same attitude when asked to help. Try not to take it personal. We are overworked and stressed. That is what it boils down to.

Unit secretaries ROCK!!! Our unit secretaries at our hospitals are the backbone. We couldn't make it without them. And I am sure to tell them that at least 4 times a week. You will learn a lot. Good luck.

The tests in school were far easier. The priority questions were the ones that left me dumb founded. Most all of the questions I guessed at. I will give you a for instance. Pt A is complaining of pain 2 hours post status appendectomy Pt B is complaining pain 4 hours fx hip Pt C is complaining of pain 6 hours hysterectomy Which pt has high priority of pain management? Well um...... my guess would be I dont know. There is no other information. Pain is subjective. We cannot determine who's pain is worse. Those were the kind of questions I got. I am a very analytical person. I read each option fully to see if there was any indications of priority. I had maybe, and I mean maybe, 9 questions that I considered definetive. I was an A student in one of the top nclex passing rate schools in our area. This was NOT what we studied. I passed however and am moving on to RN. Just thought it odd.

I wanted everyones input on whether the nclex was difficult or easy. I passed with 85 questions but let me tell you, no amount of studying prepared me for that test. I walked away swearing I failed. 4 of my friends with the same score said the exact same thing. However, another friend of ours said it was very easy. Here is the kicker, she went over quite a few questions and they were nowhere near as difficult as ours. Hers were more like our Saunders review and ours were like nothing I ever imagined. Why are the questions easier for some and more difficult for others?

It seems like not so long ago but it sure did seem like forever to get here. I work at a hospital now and am loving my new career. Now on to RN.

I just excepted a job in a local hospital and am in the process of going through orientation. I am a new grad with no experience. It seems like a great place to work and it's close to my home. Only problem I have is I am 3-11 shift. Here is my issue: A friend of mine told me of a great job that is hiring for full time, full paid benefits, days, $3.00 more an hour plus a raise in 30 days, and a huge holiday bonus. I am sure I would have no problem getting into this place. It's at a very unscale place. What do I do? I would not feel right quitting my job when its only been 1 week but this opportunity is really great for me. Any advice is appreciated.

Just a suggestion but why not get your LPN? Most technical schools do not require prereqs and a lot of times, you have a much better chance at getting in RN school. You can also go through excelsior for LPN to RN. It's Nationally accredited. Medical assistants do not make as much as LPN. Starting pay is usually $10 per hour. I just graduated LPN school and got a job at a hospital starting at $15. Good luck.

I am also considering goin through Excelsior. I do have a few questions however. I have no college credits. How do get your general requirements accomplished? Do you have to take an online class or can you purchase study books and take the exam? On the website, it says that you can take 6 credit exams for 275. Does that mean the exam itself without the online or school classes? The school I was going to for my LPN now has an RN program that includes prereqs. It is a year long and 20k. I would like to attend but I like the idea of not being in a classroom setting right now. How does the price of Excelsior compare to that? Sorry for all of the questions. i go to galen for the lpn program. i am very pleased with my education. i am not sure about the rn bridge program. i am going to apply myself in february.

I am really not all that nervous about taking the test. At least I am trying not to. I guess maybe I should be and when it comes time, maybe I will be. One of my best strengths is critical thinking. There is a review class that my instructor is offering but I don't feel that it will benefit me any. I will study my Saunders in my areas of weakness on the Hesi. I was just curious as to how close the test actually was because I did find that the questions were more difficult and factual based then the Saunders NCLEX review. Thank you for your response.

I just took my Hesi exit exam last week and got a 908. They say that the score indicates an excellent chance of passing the NCLEX exam. Does anyone have any thoughts on that? Has anyone had similar scores on the Hesi and did well on the NCLEX?

I had planned on going to Erwin but chose another school that was closer to my home in Saint Petersburg. I was impressed with Erwin's process and looked forward to going there. I hear it is a good school. They go on lottery system but if you are not chosen, you will be put on the back up list. The class was in August, I was #21 on the back up list and was called for January's class. Over all, it was not a long wait. Good luck to you.

I am 39 and ready to fininsh my LPN. I plan on going on to RN, BSN, and MSN. There is a 40 year old female, a 62 year old female, a 41 year old man and two 48 year old men in my class. I say go for it and do not worry about age. You are never too old to follow your dreams.
