  1. Great! how did you like the residency? How's the hospital? I just accepted an residency position in the ED at Piedmont Atlanta.
  2. How have you been liking it so far? Did you do a residency there? I just landed a RN residency in the ED there. I start at the end of July.
  3. Great tip! If don't mind me asking. What hospital did you work PRN for? And what were their requirements? Did you find it difficult to juggle with your fulltime job?
  4. I know for ED the base pay is $29 an hour. However, the other specialties I assume are a bit lower such as Med-surg. I would guess probably $26 or 27 an hour. Either way Piedmont pays very well for new grads out of all the other metro Atlanta hospitals.
  5. $29 is base pay. Night diff is 3.50 to 4.50 and weekends are 6.00 an hr! From what I hear Piedmont pays the most for new grads in the metro Atlanta area.
  6. They also, asked about how my prior experience as a PCT will help me as a nurse, what is the most difficult part of your job, describe a time you went above and beyond for a patient, and tell us about a time you used leadership skills. I think they asked a few more questions in addition to that, but those are ones I remember.
  7. Your very welcome! And thank you JmhATL,BSN! I'm more than happy to give you all an update and wish you all much success in your future endeavors! Feel free to ask me any more questions if you have any and I'll do the same. :)
  8. Hey! For my interview they asked all behavioral questions. Such as why the ED, tell me about a time you had a difficult patient, and etc. However, I have heard that for some interviews they ask clinical scenario questions. Such as how would you handle a stroke patient using the nursing process. So, I would be prepared for those type of questions too just in case they may ask. Probably look up some case studies on stroke, DVT, DKA, and etc. Even if they don't ask you those type of questions its better to be on the safe side, so if they were to ask you won't stumble on it. Good luck on your interview! I'm sure you will do great. Let me know if you have any other questions.
  9. How is it so far? I just accepted a position for the RN residency in the ED at Piedmont Atlanta! I start July 31st.
  10. Hi everyone! I just accepted a RN residency position in the ED at Piedmont Atlanta! I'm super stoked!! I wanted to know if anyone on this panel has received an offer for any other unit at Piedmont??
  11. Their is no required book that you need for Transitions in nursing. For Fundamentals the book is Fundamentals of Nursing 8th Edition and the Author is Potter & Perry. For Health Assessment the title is Health & Physical Assessment in Nursing 2nd Edition and the authors are D'Amico & Barbarito. For Patho the title is Understanding Pathophysiology 5th Edition. The authors are Huether & McCance.
  12. I'm also taking fundamentals and health assessment in January. I will let you know how it goes :)
  13. That' awesome! If you have anymore questions feel free to ask :)
  14. Hey aero1! I started school at chamberlain in September 2014, so I am currently in my second session here. I truly like it so far. It is a fairly new school that has grown a lot over the past few years, but in all I do like it. All the staff seem to be very helpful and the teachers are good too. Next session I begin my lab classes and after that I will start clinicals. I'm very exciting to be starting these classes! Once I complete the January session I will be able to give you an even better outlook on the school.
  15. Hi SPJJ Mommy! My ultimate goal is to become an NP. I'm currently in the BSN program at Chamberlain now, but I'm wondering do you think I should just for straight for my NP degree or should I work as a nurse for a few years before applying? Also, how is the program going for you thus far? Have you started clinicals yet? If so, has it been hard to find preceptors?
  16. Hi Capricorn! The transition into nursing class wasn't bad at all. There are no exams it's mostly just discussion and a final project that you will have to present at the end of the session. Overall, this should be your easy A class. Now, for the health & wellness course its not as easy as some people may think. It actually requires reading your text and studying the material. I think that the first exam was the most challenging to me, because I didn't know how it would be set up and what exactly we would be tested on. But, after the first exam I did well on all the rest of the test. The class is certainly not impossible to pass. Just take the class serious, read, and STUDY. There are also a couple of group projects that you will have to do, but they were fun and not too hard. Overall, I liked the class and I learned quite a bit. Fundamentals, patho, and health assessment I don't take till the January session, so I'm not sure how those classes will be. I'm excited even though I hear that this is the most challenging semester. But, I look forward to letting you know how it goes.
  17. Hey! The prerequisites for the program can be found on chamberlain.edu. They are usually the same as any other nursing program though. So, that includes classes like AP I & 2, psychology, english, algebra, statistics, and etc. I just started the program at Chamberlain and I'm in my second session. So, far I'm really enjoying the program. I won't be finished with all my nursing courses until Nov.2016 so I still have a little ways to go. I start Fundamentals, Patho, and Health Assesment in January, so I'll let you know how it goes! :)
  18. In terms of if it is better to take online classes vs on site I think it just really depends on how you learn best. I was the type of person to always take classes on site, but since I started the program some of the classes must be taken online. So, I took my first online class last session which was Critical Thinking and it really wasn't that bad to me. Every week there is discussions and assignments which may include a paper or a quiz. In the beginning it was a little hard to get in the groove, but after a while you get used to it. Now that I've taken an online class I would be open to taking more in the future, but I still prefer onsite classes.
  19. Hey chriscioloca! In terms of classroom sizes here at the Atlanta campus it averages from about 15 to 32 students in each classroom. It depends on what class it is though. The tuition price is very steep! If you are coming in with no prior credits tuition is about $80,000 in total. But, I would recommend taking your prerequisites at a community college or a school that is significantly cheaper and then transfer in. By doing that you can almost cut your tuition price in half. My HESI score was a 91. The exam really wasn't too difficult. All of the studying I did came straight from the HESI exam study book. I didn't use any other resources. I also only had about a week to study. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask!
  20. Hey Capricorn! You have a lot of questions and they are all good ones. I'm not sure of when the deadline is to apply. However, I would recommend going online to chamberlain.edu and it should let you know when the deadline is. I believe they enroll students in 3 times a year. (Fall, Spring, and Summer). If not Summer I know for sure that they enroll for Fall and Spring. The HESI exam is timed. I believe you get about 3 1/2 or 4 hours to take the exam. No need to worry though the amount of time they give you is more than enough to complete the exam. For the Atlanta Campus we didn't really have an interview process. But, I'm hearing that the interview process is when you pass the exam and they meet with you again to discuss your finances, set you up for the drug test, and background screening. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions.
  21. Yup I'm taking those exact same classes.
  22. Hey everyone! I would like to know have any of you ever applied for the Nightingale Scholarship at Chamberlain?
  23. @Mspsychology that's good I wish you the best of luck in your studies. If you ever have questions about the admission process or anything feel free to ask.
  24. @Mspsychology I plan on attending this fall semester which begins Sept. 1st. Do you plan on applying to Chamberlain? I didn't apply to any other schools, but I did think of applying to Brenau and GGC. However, I didn't end up applying there, because I missed the GGC fall deadline due to still taking classes that I needed before applying and the same applies to Brenau. Plus, I really didn't want to sit out a whole semester just to wait and apply, so Chamberlain was my next bet.
  25. Hey! @Mspsychology my hesi score was 92 and my gpa is 3.3
