  1. Get your NP and then decide ,you can teach with NP degree but you can not work as NP if you take educator track.Good luck.
  2. I got the certification last year.it was tough and expensive.I saw that they are offering now pilot test for only 200 dollars. Maybe they changed some of prerequirments, who knows?
  3. I pray that he will get the care he needs , I pray also for one strong , fast and fat heart attack that will take me in the middle of my swimming stroke while I am camping with my girls on some God knows what mountain. I wish if nobody ever has to wait in this age for anything but it is happening and it is a little that we can change at this moment. I hope when more baby boomers who are strong and not so fragile hit the floors of NH there will be change!!
  4. Hi , ladies.. I am reading more and more about the school and already asked "for more information " from the school. I think this is very afordable school . I read what Jim posted and I am happy with his explanation . Any of you already in the program? I would like to find people and start in this directions DNP in leadership . A lot more to explore I guess. Good luck .
  5. Ericka , did you find your preceptor? If you still need it let us talk.
  6. I finished Excelsior year ago in nursing education and all I can say : it is a ride!!! ( good one !!!) I loved it , there were bumps here and there but if you like to come from the ride with your hair blown and red in your face with big huge smile from rush .. that how it feels .. Good luck ..
  7. I had a case when my patient was asking for extra pain medication and doc refused and told me to not call him back . So I said " listen to me sir, at this moment they are on my tail and going after me to give them medication that you do not want to prescribe , we both know what is the deal here, so I will ensure that tomorrow when you come they will ride on your tail as much as they are doing on my now!" . He stopped , was quiet for a minute and said " Ok, so what do you want" .. Oh, Vicodin 2 pills q 4hr PO prn for pain greather then 5, thank you " . Got it!! It was a joke for a while on my floor .
  8. I can tell you that one of my coworkers just thanked me because I made her be "pushy" . She wanted one specialty so bad and she was talking about it a few nights in row we worked together. So I said lets find the name of manager and send her an email and call her. She responded same way as you think and I reassured her that being proactive is not being pushy because if you do not get out of the group how they can notice you? She got the job in 2 weeks. So , my suggestion to you is YES , go for it, send email, call, send note , ask for appointment. Every job I got that was the way . I am not from this area , nobody knows me , do not have any links so what is left - link myself to what I want! Good luck to you .
  9. Hey, I had it before and I handle it "nice" . After seeing that she does not want me to work with her , and turn me her back and knocked on her back and said" excuse me , is this role that you are forced to take make you uncomfortable? If it does , let me speak with management and see what else is available for me because on this way we are making two issues , one is you not happy with me around, and I am not happy with you around , how about see other match? "She said , no ,, n o ,no , it is her moment, her house, her kids blabla bla , no it was HER!!. So I changed preceptor next day and was happy. Worked with this one and saw her in action. It was HER!!.
  10. I will ask the question we should never ask " but why"?Massage is part of our care, yes, we can not give it all time , and yes, we are busy but massage is GOOD!! I am not saying that having boundaries (and I DO HAVE after years of working) is bad, seeing massage request as funny makes me sad. It is a human touch that calms babies, it is a human touch that calms us.
  11. Hmm, I did not know that they are importing new nurses ( still ?) ? Good to know , I have a few very good friends in Europe , Africa and South America that would be interested to come and write "Piizl" :)) Yes, yes, I am one of those who are taking crumbs from somebodies' else table hm hm taste good after cleaning you know what!! And then my accent , oh gosh , so strong my tongue muscles are !!! Cheer, and PLEASE , understand, I am so sorry you felt like that , and I hope it will never happen again . For me though , it will never stop the questions where I finished my school ( in some country called US) and how long have I practice ( who cares if I know how to give a good back rub?!!) and yes!!! where am I from ( Planet Earth last time I checked ) . I do not agree though on unscrupulous practice of bringing on girls from other countries , paying them less then half normal RN earns and then asked them to work even more , and this is happening sometimes. We should fight for nurses worldwide because this is the biggest educated force in the world and we are bickering and thinking that we are something better.. What to say? Good luck all on keeping your job interesting :))
  12. Ok, So this is how I see it : if you passed first part of it then your one leg is inside and other outside of the fence.. :)) so you need to bring it in. For the PPT they practically wants to see how you can present material and make them engaged in it. Do follow rules of PPT - no wistles, no distraction, professional organized presentation with max of 10- 12 slides. Put in the begining your name , credentials etc. Start with objectives and goals for the session and then present the material. On the end have you APA style so that they can see where you took information ( not only from your head) . I hope this helps a little bit . Good luck to you ( or maybe you already had the interview)
  13. I usually with those comments reply back " I am so sorry you feel like that because I do not . Maybe this environment is making you like that. It is so nice that nursing is so diverse , have you ever tried to do something else?" ,and smile , walk away , or support her if she wants to change position . As other said stay as you are and make it clear that you will not get into her mud. Good luck to you .
  14. I am so sorry for this experience you are going through and your daughter. As a teacher, and an instructor and a nurse I can tell you that it is not right. I am not saying that I have never fail the student but there is nice way of doing it and wrong way of doing it . Even with the person that I really do not see surviving nursing I still encourage them to explore every option and get every help and stay on their dreams. The best is to go and talk with the instructor. Give your perspective especially because you are a nurse so it means you UNDERSTAND the deal and what it is entailed to be a nurse. Say that this time you are also speaking as a mother of someone who wants to be a nurse. Lucky you to tell you . I envy you . I am trying to paint nursing to my children as the most hard and most rewarding job but they are not buying it. Your kid did it now go and roar and protect your young. God bless you .
