  1. In my program its basically up to the department head on how many times u are let back into the program. There has been students who have taken a class 3 and 4 times. We can't use recorders in class and the instructors hardly ever use power points anymore. Come to think of it,,, we haven't used PowerPoint since prereqs. I do however have the NCLEX mastery app and sometimes use quizlet! Thanks for suggesting this book, I will check it out! My program recommends an NCLEX comprehensive review book that I have looked over a few times and there is ATI! I have the materials now, its just hard for me to focus! Thanks for your help I will make this work this time!
  2. Its been 2 weeks since the end of the semester and 2 weeks since I've failed med surg 1! It has been a very stressful semester for me and I'm kind of glad that the semester is over! Yes I was and still am very upset with myself but I can't let that hold me down. I now know what I face with this class so I will be better prepared next time around. I have to sit out until spring 2017 to take the class again...which is suppose to be my final semester. Now I wont graduate until spring 2018! That is so far off! The stress should ease up during my time off but I feel I will be more stressed by the pressure of trying to better prepare myself to pass! I honestly do not know how I am going to deal with this. Any advice on how you deal with not passing a nursing class and better ways to prepare???
  3. Rossf014, my program is a 22 month program...one semester of prereqs and then 18 months of actual nursing classes...I'll finish may 2017....how long do you have left ?
  4. Wow its been a while since I've posted on AN. Well since I've switched to full-time status things have gotten pretty stressful pretty fast. I knew it would be a lot to deal with but I had no idea just how much would be on my plate. Whew!! Ok so this semester I'm taking med surg 1, basic pharmacology, and intro to pn with a med surg clinical in a rehab hospital! With being a full time mommy, going to school full-time, and working 12 hr shifts, I was managing pretty well...well enough to keep my grades up..then it all changed...I had to miss 2 days of school for Dr appts and in those 2 days I missed a lot.. 5 exams is wht I had to make up...talk about playing catch up! I feel so far behind now. I was able to make up 2 exams but trying to focus on new lectures and keep up on wht i missed is driving me crazy. This semester is almost over and I have no idea wht my grades really are until I can get those exams made up. The stress on top of the stress I've already had is making me more stressed out if tht makes any sense. I'm really playing catch up. How's everyone doing this semester? Are you hanging in there?? I won't give up!
  5. At my school we take OB, Peds, and advanced pharm together....and its during the summer semester! 😩 I have heard that peds and ob are really hard together and to have to take it during a short semester is really going to be streqssful. You just have to keep your focus and get through it no matter what order the classes are in! Good luck on everything!
  6. All heart.com is a good site....however I found my lightweight littman stethoscope from medisave.net...their prices are amazing. I found tht site from a poster here on all nurses.
  7. Iv therapy is part of my program. Its in the last semester of the program. In my area as an LPN we won't be able to hang blood or push certain medicines but can start IVs, run some meds, etc. I'm glad its included in the program and I dnt have to pay for and extra course
  8. My number one choice has always been women's health but not particularly l&d. My reason for wanting to be a nurse is to be a part of helping young girls and women learn how their bodies work and how to take care of themselves. I've also took an interest in other areas but won't kno for sure how much they interest me until I've had a chance to experience some things in the area. I would consider urgent care/emergency department, and corrections. I kno working with kids isn't my thing soo I'm furthest away from wanting to be in peds but u never kno until u try it.
  9. Wow that's awesome... I'm definitely going to look that up. It would be awesome to have my name engraved or printed on most of the things I use throughout school and career. Reduces the risk of theft.... Now if only I could keep up with me pens! 😒
  10. So far I pretty much have the basics, stethoscope, penlight, bandage scissors, b/p cuff, etc. Later on down the line I hope to get a littman classic all black edition.
  11. From what I hear you are right, they really last a very long time. I hope I can hang on to mine for a long while
  12. Where did u find a stethoscope on sale for black Friday?? Didn't know they had sales on them for black Friday, that would be awesome if they did for future references
  13. Hello fellow nursing students and nurses! Just wondering what kind of stethoscope did u buy or plan to buy for nursing school? When I went to school for medical assisting, I used the cheap one the school provided from prestige medical. It was very heavy and I thought the sound quality was ok....until I purchased the littman lightweight! Omg the difference there is very noticeable. Can't believe I went so long without a littman. The sound quality is very impeccable, and let's not forget the weight of it. Much better than having that heavy, double tubing one hang around my neck all day. I'd say I made a very good choice in getting the littman. Also I was able to get it in my favorite color (lilac/light purple), I love every shade of purple and was also able to have my first and last name engraved on it. What kind of stethoscope/ clinical supplies did you guys use or plan on using?
  14. Thanks everyone for replying.... @WKShadowRN you are right critical thinking is far more important to me than having all A's although my grades are important to me as well. I just want to be able to provide the best care for my pts. @vintagemother I have moved on from just feet now...legs, front and back, feels like I have been working out and my back...that's another story. Really have to practice better body mechanics. @tasha92337 I hear care plans are really something and requires a lot of time to do. Is that true for you? You guys have quite a load for clinicals. I'm ready for all of that, well at least I think I am lol. @Mscoleman78 your schedule is pretty full. I go to clinicals tues-thurs 6:30-1:30. Not only that but my full time job is 12 hrs overnight so I leave work and get no sleep on those days. Kids at home also so it seems like I never get any rest. But I pray and step out on faith...one day at a time. This is what I want so I have to go through the storm to see the sunlight in the end.
  15. Hi fellow nursing students!! Its been a while since I have been able to post a topic..life has really been busy for me (and I'm still in school part-time). This is just an update. I made it through A&P successfully this time around, thank God, with a C but that's ok I passed. Summer semester began June 1 and ends July 31. As a part-time student we only have fundamentals 1 June 1-30 and geriatric clinicals July 1-31. I passed fund1 with a high B, so proud of myself. Clinicals are going just fine and will be over as soon as we work 40 hours. I wish someone would have told me it would be this exhausting. My feet hurt so much everyday but I know its all worth it. I can not wait to begin the fall semester and be one more step closer towards the end. How has everyone's summer semester been so far? When does the next semester begin for you? Good luck to everyone trying toake it through this semester and to those who are waiting to begin. Keep us updated!
  16. I myself finished a MA program back in 2010 and jump right back into school for LPN the spring of 2011. I didn't waste anytime trying to get my nursing license... But life has its ways of showing us when we are ready and when we are not. I ended up having to drop my first semester of 2011 due to pregnancy. Took me a while but I'm back in the program. If I knew then what I kno now I would have skipped MA all at once and would have went right in for LPN. Time wasted and money spent to only not be able to find work as a MA
  17. Congrats....get a head start on what u can now because its not an easy road.
  18. Congrats on getting in
  19. Good luck with everything! Fingers crossed we all make it through without any major problems. Congrats to everyone tht has already started or been accepted and good luck with everything everyone!
  20. How long is your program? How are u liking it so far? What's ur course line up so far? Its stressful for me but I'm loving the experience!
  21. Congrats....how long is your program? The anticipation of starting is very exciting but once u start u quickly want it to end. I guess in my case the stress it brings on and the readiness to get out in the field and work as a nurse. My summer semester starts tomorrow and I can't wait. Please let us know how things go for u once u start
  22. September will be here in no time....once u start u will be ready to graduate. Every semester brings the anticipation of what comes next and then its oh I'm so ready for this to be over lol. Tomorrow starts my summer semester which is June and July. I'm ready for it but I know I will be ready for it to end. Congrats on everything and keep us updated throughout your progress
  23. I hope ur interview goes well and u get in. *fingers crossed* good luck, keep us updated
  24. Try your local health unit. When I first started my program I had to get shot records and my mom didn't have copies. I didn't have a local primary care doctor cuz I grew up in another city. I had to drive out of town to get them from the health unit there. All of my found records were then put in the system so I could receive them from any state ran health unit within the state. Hope this helps. Good luck
  25. I guess he heard the call button from the parking lot
