  2. Hi Laura, Wow call on Thanksgiving. I believe it, a friend of mine got her call at 10:00pm. I lived with the phone attatched to my hip for a whole month:) I luckily didn't have to pay for my titers but I did have to pay for my Hep shots. I have heard from others not to buy all the books. How do you know which ones to buy?? Obviously, I already have dosages. And I know you need med surg. I also heard nursing one you can pretty much study straight from the handouts, but nursing 2 you have to do all the reading...Do you find this to be true?? I did buy test for success because many have recommended it. A friend also recommended fluids and electrolytes made easy. What is your take on that?? I want to review dosages and the electrolyte book this summer to get a leg up. Now about the palm pilot...what do you recommend?? I was thinking this week that a time management tool would come in handy. But you have to realize I am 37 and these types of electronics are way above my head, tee hee... My kids could probably work them forward and back. I finally just got my first MP3 this Christmas. LOL Any advice would be greatly appreciated:)
  3. Thanks so much for your responses...I am so excited now. I will talk to the peds Professor at my school. I also ordered on Amazon yesterday the Handbook of Neonatal Intensive Care, I thought I'd do some light reading this summer:) If you have any other advice that would be great.
  4. Hi there, I would say chances will be good. For a few reasons: If someone doesn't show to the info session they are dropped. You can't register for the fall until the info session. Also things happen, people decide against it, move or can't get their shots, CPR etc. My sister got called one week after classes had started last year due to someone dropping. Good luck to you!!! I start this fall in Warwick-days
  5. Hello there, Here's my 2 cents. I just got my call for Nursing I this fall after 2 years of waiting. I went and applied for the Performance base program and thankfully got in a year sooner than the waitlist would have gotten me. But let me tell you, if you are going to CCRI they just changed over to a ranking style which means the minimum grades won't cut it. You have to make sure you plan to get as many A's as possible. I luckily have 4.0 and got in to the program. They were accepting 9 students based on merit in Warwick this coming semester and 11 4.0's applied. I am not trying to scare you, I just want you to realize how important it is to make the grade now. Because there is no more waiting list. As for your classes, the 2 you have chosen for summer are awesome!!! I recommend taking Anatomy by itself because it requires alot of time. It really is like taking 2 classes because lab is different than lecture. And no you don't need to finish Micro to get in. You need Physiology though. Another bit of advice. Ask about the professors. Some are wonderful and will go out of their way to help you. Some could care less. I never asked about my Physiology teacher and just registered for her. She was horrible, I had to basically teach myself. If you are going to CCRI Hanson is wonderful for Anatomy, she's in Providence, or Dr. Johnson in Newport as well. Good luck on your new adventure. Congrats on making the first step. It's an exciting journey
  6. Hello, I start Nursing I in September and I heard through the grape vine that hospitals will hire nurse interns once they have started clinicals. I have realized that with 4 children of my own that my passion in nursing is for the NICU. I would love to intern just for 4-6 hours or so once a week in the NICU(as school is so demanding). Do they allow nurse interns in the NICU??? I want to absorb and learn as much as I can about this field. I have a friend who interns in the ER and I have no desire to be there. If this is something one of you has seen, who do I contact at the hosptital about this? Thank you in advance for any advice or help. Sincerely, Denise
  7. Finally accepted into ADNU program this fall Community College Rhode Island!!!! Just got my call....Congrats to the other acceptances!! Quick calls for those still waiting
  8. Hi All, Next week Thurs. I will have my first lab test. Does anyone know any good websites for lab tests??? We have to identify 50 terms on the cat, and sheeps heart. I have done well in Anatomy on the lecture part so far because that is all memorization. But this lab half is another story. It all looks like chicken to me. I have a hard time telling one muscle from the other. The organs should be easier to identify. But the nerves and muscles are so difficult. Any suggestions???? I am trying to memorize them in order from pictures in book. Please help:)
  9. I am taking Anatomy, Dosages and Calculations, Intro to health careers and English comp. So I will be right there with you sister.... I took the English comp clep exam last week but I won't hear if I passed for a couple weeks. I sure hope I did because that will lighten my load considerably. I need to get these 4 pre req's out of the way to get my name on the waiting list. Otherwise it will be another 6 months.
  10. Hi all, I am starting too.... My classes are seperate A and P that is. I am taking Anatomy this semester and Physiology next. I am a little overwhelmed too. I have 4 kids and am hoping to complete my prereq's this semester to get onto the waiting list at my school. Which is 4 classes. There is a really good study habits thread going around. I got somes great tips off it. Good luck to all!!!!
  11. Me too....I have been out of school for 15 years. I am starting back in the fall at CCRhode Island. I have 4 pre req's to take this fall so I can qualify for the 2 year clinical waitlist. (I am so glad they have a waiting list and not a lottery) But what will be nice is the fact that I can take my co req's only 2 at a time. This semester will be a doosy though. Especially since I have 4 kids as well. My classes include, Anatomy, English comp, Dosages and Intro to health careers. God willing I will get through these next few months in one piece.
  12. I am 35 years old (going to be 36 next week) I have 4 children and I am starting back to school this fall. Talk about nervous. When I took my colleges placement exam I was the oldest one in there. I also was the last one to finish the test. Luckily I did well enough to go directly into the pre req's for the nursing program. I am nervous to start Human Anatomy though. A&P are seperate classes at my college. I hope with all my family responsibilities I can finish this class without feeling overwhelmed. We do dissect a cat. I love cats so the idea about covering the head is great advice. But my question is: Does anybody ever get sick, dizzy, faint, etc. the first few times looking at a cadaver etc. And do you get over it. My fear is that i won't be able to handle it. I want to be a L&D nurse not trauma, but I know I will have to experience it all. Any feedback????
  13. I am very blessed to say that I had very healthy twins induced at 38 weeks. One was 6lbs. 10oz. the other 7lbs. 1 oz. They both came home the same day. They just turned 9 on Monday. Wow time flies..... Hello to all, I am new to the boards. I am hopefully entering Nursing school this fall. I have to pay for these twins college soon. tee hee
