  1. You also obviously missed my point too.. Which is the patient-nurse interaction is also useful to promoting positive nurse-nurse interaction... One transcends the other and one builds off the other and leads to more success in the other.
  2. I don't think it was thinly veiled, I have been pretty direct which is why admin removed some of my posts. But needless to say, the OP is wrong, and so is everyone defending him. Veiled attempt... There is nothing latent about my approach to stimulate thoughtful engagement. How do u define nursing...does the ing part at the end of nurse imply the act of being a nurse? You are right... I don't no what nursing is... I am preparing to be a nurse
  3. Actually you are misrepresenting the OPs post. He said close the curtain and either step in or step out... This after putting the student on the spot
  4. One would be journal of creative nursing... Ebsco coaching vs supervision... Il get back to you with IOM; however, a common theme across various nursing landscapes is to avoid environments of shaming and blaming, etc... I would suggest do this or get out is shaming. And, as a previous poster elucidated, patients under care are their patients for that time... Same applies to a student under supervision, with that said, a nurse should extend equal sensitivity to the student as he/she would to a patient. Although I am currently a student, I had a career prior to nursing and I am also educated, which qualifies me to bring some life experience to the thread table.
  5. No, actually, people are bashing programs like this because they exploit people for money, indirectly cause decreased nursing wages, flood the market, reduce nursing and nursing school credibility....that's why.
  6. I read your other posts, pretty clever marketing I must say. Best of luck
  7. Point of reference, some of my posts may be a little confusing because I am one or two cognitive levels above a gerbil... So I apologize if some of you like ersne12(sorry if I didn't spell that correctly, like I said only one or two above) can't feel them
  8. Can somebody explain to me, in the interest of learning, why it makes sense to say perform this or step out? And if those were the options, are people in agreement that the student should have interjected with option 3... Observation??? I'm just curious. I realize that this thread has been beaten from the US down into China, but I would like to know someone's thoughts. And I am curious if anyone puts any credence into the IOMs and various other academic journals regarding coaching in lieu of supervising... Gotta love evidence based philosophy regarding advanced practice nursing and clinical leadership.... And being that the future scope of nursing practice is way beyond nursing skills, do you guys think focusing on this type of stuff reinforces the publics view that nurses wipe peoples asses
  9. One more thing... If the OPs intent was to facilitate a learning environment, the alternative to perform this skill, wouldn't be close the curtain on your way out. I'm sure the OP offered that part for climactic element to his post, but if that was an actual scenario, it was a poor decision...bottom line. Now stop arguing that it wasn't, or we will be forced to open up discussions regarding universal minimum educational requirements for nurses.
  10. Dudette 10... They aren't your patients, you don't own them... And you need to remember how litigious this country is.... Precedence is set with first times, and there is a first time for everything.
  11. My different angle was just meant to spruce up a little out of the box direction to the post... The way I see it , how many times can we say that the OP took advantage of an opportunity to educate , and in doing so, became an awesome nurse for nursing students everywhere... Or, the obvious, the OP put a student in a precarious spot of furthering skills at the risk of possible dismissal to a program. Essentially, how many different ways can we say the same thing... So I brought the gender issue into the post, to break up the monotony...Oops, what was I thinking, that's not a real world issue right. And to the person that said the OP is a male blah, blah, blah.... Yeah, males never take advantage of opportunities to try and put other males on the spot
  12. Sorry guys, as a new nursing student I'm suppose to internalize all the words to formulate my critical thoughts... So I am picking on the word "he" in the OPs post. Developing my skills so to speak, you feel me???
  13. Wow OP... You really showed that male nursing student who the boss is...everyone covered all the bases during their replies, so I am going to bring in a new angle. Did you do that because the student was a male...and if so, how did your test make you feel
  14. Where is this thread now going... Put the train back on the tracks.... I admire you for keeping your composure in the response. Get your points back!!
  15. Great points are brought up... Cohort learning systems are very interesting, the stuff research is made up of... No doubt!! You have a group of people walking a fine line between I'm here to get ahead in life, but don't worry, I'm not trying to show you up... Cause it's not like we are competing for the same job right! Group dynamics is so interesting , especially when competition emerges. One wants to appear strong and competent, but not overly strong and competent to put the others in fear. Back an animal into a corner and they will bite. Show up 20 other people and they will throw you off the mountain. But in the nicest way possible , almost as if you tripped and fell. I, myself, am in a unique position . My wife is successful, so this isn't all about the money for me... I could get a minimum wage job and she wouldn't care. But I am building a road so my kids don't have to find it like I did... I think you can understand that. But I'm strong and smart with shortcomings just like anyone else, but the question is, are the people who are silently measuring each other up, measuring me? I hope not, cause I'm not playing for keeps, I'm just trying to learn. Just study by yourself, go in law school mode... Think the next person is looking to push you in the water with ankle weights, instead of how it may be now, where someone dropped a banana peel in front of you which just happened to be at the end of the cliff
  16. I'm kind of surprised you are on the "do not play with list". Naturally, I don't know you, but your posts are insightful, you have a tremendous background.... If I am not mistaken, you even mentioned you do yoga to center yourself during long lectures. So, you are either extremely attractive, or you smell bad, both would equally explain your isolation.
  17. I will bet you dollars to doughnuts that some professions are more than dollars.... Said the person who was never rich to begin with!
  18. If it don't make dollars it don't make sense right?
  19. There's worse stuff you can do than wiping ass... Not sure exactly what off the top of my head, but there has to be. Oh yeah, how about going to prison and... C, way worse!
  20. As I wrote that I am looking at an ad for chamberlain college... Well if you want to pay 100,000 for a BSN, there ya go, wonder what their curriculum is like?
  21. Here's another thing about nursing school... When we say nursing school... We are talking ADN, BSN, ACBSN, entry level MSN, MS in nursing, non-nursing bachelors NP programs... Then we are talking comm colleges, colleges, universities. Then we are talking for profit vs non-profit... Saying one got a 4.0 in nursing school means absolutely nothing unless we know some details about the program.
  22. It is your clinical experience, so take control of the situation. Ask your instructor directly or indirectly, either way you will know where you stand. Sounds like you are doing all the right things, confirm it. Seek out constructive feedback from people, embrace the advice and grow. We are all individuals, and people are not alike. It's funny really, we are in a field that acknowledges and accepts difference, we think to be effective in uncertainty, but are we forgetting to carry these qualities into our peer relationships? From your words, it seems as if you are a person who enjoys affirmation. I am sure your instructor recognizes this, perhaps she is pushing you out of your comfort zone a little bit. Maybe there is method to the madness.
  23. First, I am so sorry for your loss. I really hope the school allows some bereavement time and clinical make up for your situation. But, I want to put this out there to you in case you feel this way. If the school doesn't allow this, and you cannot afford to redo hours. Your mother lives forever in your thoughts, and she will be with you from here on out. If you have to miss the funeral, remember your mothers purpose was your success. You have your whole life to grieve. Compartmentalize that grief and work through it at your own pace while being happy in your life.
  24. Sorry Mike, wrong thread, but this prompts some advice... When you are in nursing school, remember to get some sleep!
  25. I am in an entry level MSN program, so we have adult learners as well. My environment is the opposite of yours, we work together and we are all there for each other. I wonder if it's just random due to personality conflict, or it's due to the culture your faculty is creating. Our faculty is amazing, and they have created an atmosphere that promotes teamwork.
