  1. I am sorry for your difficulties! I don't have an answer for the intersexed, other than age will determine the gender characteristics and I may be wrong on that. I will not be closed minded about this issue though.
  2. Your welcome!! Even I will respect you as a person and professional. When I am at work, ALL emotions get checked at the facility door- time to work and make it patient centered.
  3. It could have to do with the way I was raised, My dad is old fashioned. I was raised up in many churches. Mostly it bothers me because in my mind I see it as un-natural. I know there are many of you out there who disagree with me and thats okay. These are merely my thoughts. I feel the same way towards any gender changing to the opposite sex, so its not just one sided. You are right, It doesnt affect me but, what am I to tell my children when they ask me these questions. Do I tell them that what ever they do, do it and dad will support no matter what-whether its right or wrong. Suppose I did something that each nurse on this post didn't like, should you all be okay with it as long as it doesn't affect any of you. We each have things that bother us, just everyone is afraid of offending or being accused of judging.
  4. Thank you! I only intended to answer your posting question not stir up a hornets nest with all the other nurses that disagree with my thoughts and what I believe others will say and do towards what "WE" do not understand. As far as the equality of sin- when a person breaks the law, they are guilty and according to the bible when one breaks even one law it is reckoned as lawless/lawlessness. I do not know you personally, I do not know anything about you other than what you allow us to know. I do not judge you in anyway. Like posted above we must pull the plank from our own eye before helping our brother remove the splinter from his. Everyone in this world must make their stand based on his/her values and beliefs no matter what anyone else thinks.
  5. I agree with you completely. I could work with Kaley1 just fine and I do pray for those out there that I feel need it. I am not cold or "nasty person".
  6. I agree. I am not the one who will join the gossip. I am simply stating what I know we as people can expect.
  7. First, this post is about seeking all sides of issue not just support. REread the initial opening thread. It states "How would you like the person to go about things to make you feel more comfortable with it? I am looking for a realistic picture, not just reassurances. I really want to know the truth" Second, I am not judging. Neither is it judging to call an apple-an apple or an orange-an orange. People are way too sensitive to the judging topic. It is not judging to call it what it is. To answer Kaley1's questions, someone has to give an answer as to the opposition. My post was and is not intended to convict or offend. My words are not typed with emotion so please don't attach emotion to them.
  8. It seems as though everyone that has posted is very supportive. Me personally, I am not for transgender! As a male nurse, it really bothers me to think that some of the women nurses out there are men by birth. All I can really say is, this may be best kept to yourself at the work place to prevent any unwanted coworker eyeballing or gossip. As far as your religious parents, (I am extremely religious also) and one sin is no greater than another, whether it be murder, pride, stealing etc, (and you will be accused of sinning by the religious community). As stated above, no matter what you do we are here for our patients-not our personal lives.
  9. I applied for an ER PRN position prior to 2/20 had the interview about a week later and I am still waiting for HR to call (the ED director tells me she really wants me) On the other hand, I applied for a full time ED position on 4/2/14 and had a phone call before I got home that evening for an interview the following morning. Today 4/3 I went in for the UA drug screen. So every facilities time line will be different. Patience is the key, easier said though.
  10. I just graduated in december. When we were on the floor and charted on our assigned patients, the nurse would still chart every 2 hours and chart "agree with student nurse" or they would not chart and rely on students to cover it. We still had to report to the nurse any changes. As a working nurse now, it is my responsibility to chart on my patients regardless of what students chart. Like stated above, it is our license and they don't come easy. I'm not sure if students would be called in to court. If you didn't chart it-you didn't do it!!
  11. Death and dying are part of life, again if you want to be a part of His healing ministry-do it for free on sabbath. Yes pastors, priests, bishops, popes, rabbi's, etc. do preach on sundays and saturdays and other days alike. Remember from your bible, the jewish and all the new converts all assembled on sabbath to hear the "torah" (law/scripture) being read. Even the Messiah would read and continue his ministry on sabbath, the difference between then and now is MONEY. In my opinion whatever is to be done on sabbath should never revolve around money. When Yeshua/jesus went into the congregation on a sabbath and saw the money changers, and all the other tables with items being sold for offerings- He overturned the tables and drove them out with a type of whip He hand made. I look forward to all your thoughts and suggestions. I am never closed minded to shut out a good idea!!
  12. If we all kept the commands of the bible, according to Deu. 28 (rewards and punishments for keeping or not keeping the commands) there would be no sickness. The children of Israel transgressed those commands time and time again, and were punished frequently with sickness, famine, destruction, exiled, death etc. I struggle with this issue as well. I am thinking what I should do is try to have friday night off and work sat/sun nights. If I must work sat. day, I will donate the money earned to a good cause that way I am truly continuing the healing ministry of our Messiah. Yes Yeshua (jesus), did heal/work on sabbath BUT He did not get payed, all his healing/work was free.
  13. I have a jewish friend and he believes that there is no higher calling than to love your neighbor as your self. In so doing, saving a life to him is okay if he must work a sabbath. He has also told me that if your job requires it, it is okay. Remember though, Judaism has many laws wrote by rabbis compiled in their talmud.
  14. I understand what you are saying and it makes perfect sense. Thank you. I called and talked to the ED director and told her what was going on, to her surprise. She said she will try to get me on as a tech in the ED until the versant residency opens up. I like that idea because it will orient me to the ED and possibly other units of the hospital as well. I did receive confirmation from another hospital director today that I have been approve for a ED PRN position, BUT they will hire me in as a tech and make sure I learn what is required before fully taking on the PRN position.
  15. Your update. I was offered a PRN position in the ED. I asked if they had any full time positions available and she had to leave a message with the director (the woman that interviewed me). When I was called back they suddenly realized that I had no ER experience, even though I asked them about that during the initial phone interview set up and asked the director during the interview; so they retracted their offer and asked me if I wanted to enroll in their versant program. I don't understand how this can happen. The director was well aware of my experience status as she said we typically don't hire new grads so convince me why I should. Well I did and now I've been shut down because of the chief nursing advisor. Talk about a disappointment!!
  16. Thank you all for your thoughts and comments. What I have been doing is wearing sleeveless undershirts, doesn't help much. I have even though of cutting out the necks of my cotton undershirts and sewing them inside the v neck of the scrubs. I will most certainly look into the under armour shirts. Shaving sucks. Maybe an undershirt will benefit me since I have been wanting to work ER as a first hospital job and likely it will be at nights. Again, Thank you!!
  17. As a male nurse I have always been told (beginning in school) that men need to wear undershirts to cover up chest hair. I can understand this but DOES IT EVER MAKE ME HOT. I only wish I knew of scrubs that were NOT v necks or if someone out there knows of a way to modify some v necks to make it where I/we don't have to wear an undershirt. I have even entertained to idea to make my own scrubs, to have three buttons on the top for ease of putting on and covering up. I look forward to reading all your suggestions and comments on this subject. Thank you!
  18. Hr from the hospital called my house today while I was at my current job. Sadly I was unable to return the phone call today. I will have to wait until monday for the news- good or bad.
  19. I didn't buy myself anything. I didn't take it as a come on, but some may see it as that way.
  20. I had an interview today for the ER, It was different. It started with the director and manager meeting me in the HR office. They had to make a pit stop in the cafeteria where the director asked me if I wanted anything. Initially I said no, but when asked again I said water would be fine. She bought (FYI-I'm a male nurse). I don't know if that is considered hitting on me?? She introduced me to the staff on the unit as well as giving me a tour of the unit. The interview was all based around character type questions, none about knowledge. After telling me they typically don't hire new nurses she asked me to convince her why she should. All I could think of was "as a new nurse you can train me how you want me, and If you give me a chance I will give you 100%". The interview was laid back, she did most all the talking, explained how the orientation would work. I live about 80min away, she said she would work with me on that as well; give me three days in a row. What are all your thoughts? Thank you in advance!!!!
  21. I graduated in Dec 2013 with an AAS as well. I live in southeast Illinois. I have applied for about 100 ish positions. I recently got my ACLS and PALS trying to make myself look better on paper hoping to have a fighting chance for just one of these positions, on top of those certifications I also got my Missouri license. I have applied for jobs at hospitals primarily, for a 2 hour driving radius of where I live. I have a nurse friends in high places that have put in good words, emailed the hospital directors- none of this seems to make a difference. Like you, I have only had three phone calls, three interview (VA, and 2 long term care). I started at a nursing home this week, NOT my first pick of jobs but I have to get the experience time clock moving. Every facility wants to have experienced nurses but no one wants to give us the opportunity to gain the needed experience. The only possible advice I can offer is to take what you can get and continue to pursue the jobs you really want. I wish things were different for us new grads. Any advice on Amber's thread will be EXTREMELY appreciated my many. Thank you in advance. Keep your head up and remember your not alone on this fight.
  22. Thank you, I hope I get it too. There were two staff nurses that interview me. They took turns asking me questions.
  23. Thank you for your insight! As a new nurse I welcome advice from those with more experience.
  24. Yes the interview went well. Thank you. They are interviewing a total of 15 people for the position. They said I interviewed very well and answered the questions well and correctly. Some of the experienced nurses answered some questions wrong, surprising to me. Anyway, it can take up to 6 months to get through the hiring process. Im still praying for the best!! By the way evidence based questions suck.
  25. I applied for the Veterans Affairs ER position back in december and now have an interview tonight at 1700, so nervous! This is the one job that I really really want. I am hoping some of my fellow nurses can lend advice for me on how to prepare for this. Thank you in advance.
