The PVT worked for me and I just took the exam on Valentine's Day 2018. I did some research and apparently, if you PASSED the "good pop up" is 99% accurate before having to pay for quick results, basically the chances of getting a false positive are slim.

I took my NCLEX on Valentine's Day 2018 (that's how much I "love" myself!). The exam cut off at 75 questions and I left feeling fine but got on the metro to enjoy a nice dinner and broke down and started crying in public! I SWORE UP AND DOWN I failed because I felt there were basic concepts that I thought I got wrong and felt so stupid. I called two friends to calm me down. I ended up going to V-Day dinner and on the train home, my friend "bullied" me into doing the PVT for peace of mind (this is around 10:30PM)...I got the "good popup" and my friend congratulated me and called me a nurse. I felt a lot calmer but I was in so much denial from all of the compounding anxiety that I didn't feel at ease until I got the "unofficial" results 2 days later. It's not official, but it was way more "official" than the Pearson Vue Trick! Friday rolls around, I paid the $7.95 and it big caps I saw "PASS"! I'm so thrilled!! All the hard work, social life lost, pounds gained, hours spent studying...I'M A NURSE!!! Initially, I did 75 UWorld questions a day but my scores were so LOW and I felt like I didn't know the material....enter Hurst Review!! Hurst Review was a GAME CHANGER for me and I owe Madame Hurst a HUGE THANK YOU!!! I did one body system a day and then I would do questions that correlated with that body system on UWorld. I spent almost 3 weeks doing this and to be honest, I felt like I needed more time to go over the Hurst Review book from start to finish one more time and do 500 more World Qs (I only did about 1,000) which is why I entered and left the exam feeling anxious. But 75 questions later, I PASSED!!! Let me know if you have any questions.

I applied to a bunch of jobs in Cali as a new grad but was unlucky, so I'll be signing a contract in DC. But once that's over, this information will be good to have! Thanks!

Can I just say THANK YOU VERYYYYYYY MUCH for this post!! I had to catch myself from falling into the trap of comparing my preparation to others and letting the sob stories of not passing get me down. This is a great example of people still successfully passing despite less than desired UWorld scores. I'm feeling incredibly encouraged by this and will focus on fine tuning my thought process and understanding the rationales gathering than obsessing about getting the right answer....I'll probably steer clear of all nurses forums until I'm done with my exam (for the sake of my self esteem and sanity)!

I'm so confused about the self-identification page you all are referring too! I Already filled mine out at the end of the application and I got a confirmation email when I applied on 10/25. On 11/2 my application changed to "under consideration".

WHAT!!!! I really hope that they are not biased against out of state applicants! I have no family or friends in Cali so I can't just move there for the sake of having a "San Diego address" without a job. Cali's way too expensive to do that. We'll see how it goes!

DC resident here!! I applied to Sharp Grossmont Surgical Intensive Care Unit!! I thought it was so annoying that I could only pick one unit. I also applied to Scripps and didn't hear a peep so I'm hoping SOMETHING pans out!! My dream is to move cross country but I can't do that without a job.

I'm not sure how it works in NY but in MD once you take and pass your NCLEX you are no longer allowed to work or apply as a CNA, so don't bother! Just start networking like your life depends on it and apply! My Hopkins coworker went to several job fairs in NY before she was eventually offered a job at Hopkins. So don't sell yourself short!! You're worked to hard for that!!

Can I ask what part of the country you are in? I'm super curious because I'm a black nursing student interested in travel nursing and I would like to know what parts of the country to avoid. Life is way to short to deal with racist bigoted people!

To be perfectly honest, I ended up not really using that book and the med calc book we were required to buy was NEVER TOUCHED (such a flippin waste of $$$!)!! What I would recommend for you is to first and foremost find a method that works for you. Not everyone uses dimensional analysis (even though this is what I use). I actually do it the way I was taught during SSIP but I made some fail-proof personal tweeks for my own personal sanity and then I simply found practice problems online and did them. There's soooooo much stuff available FOR FREE online, there's really no point in wasting money buy a physical book (but this is my personal opinion!). Rather than buying the book I wish I had simply used the information from this website instead: Medication adminstration 1 Hopefully this helps!

In terns of books, I bought my books as cheap as possible in the best possible condition. I probably spent $500. Also the library has a bunch of Nursing care plan books, so I highly recommend you go through them and buy a copy of the one you like the most. I did't like the care plan books on the required book list!

My advice: #1: Do not buy the book required for the NURS 507 class!! You won't use it! #2: if you can, get involved with student orgs like GNA, Nurses for Global Health, SUPER, you'll have the chance to meet older CNL student who are willing to help and give much needed advice + it looks good on your resume! (Networking is key!) #3: Anything loose ends that haven't been dealt with my the start of the semester won't be dealt with until the end of the semester (you'll gave NOOOO time!) so handle them NOW!! #4: the professor are sh!t about scheduling exams and quizzes, so if you guys feel that you're not being given enough time in between various tests, SPEAK UP! We have quizzes rescheduled to better accommodate studying. #5: Preview for every classes by skimming through powerpoint, chapters, etc and SYNTHESIZE the material within the 1st 48 HOURS after class. This is especially crucial for a class like Patho. #6: If sh!t hits the fan and you're feeling underwhelmed with everything...the Consoling Center is your best friend! #7: Mid way through the semester, if you are not passing one of your classes, DROP IT!! I had to drop a class as opposed to letting it mess up my GPA.

I need to buy this!

So I haven't heard anything nor have I had a credit check and my application status still says "Under Review"...should I be concerned or give up hope?

Hey everyone!! It was so great meeting everyone who attended SSIP #1 yesterday!! As promised I wanted to share a great resource for anyone looking for more dosage calculation practice. Search this title in Amazon or any other website you buy books from: "Henke's Med-Math: Dosage Calculation, Preparation and Administration" by Susan Buchholz

As controversial as this statement is, in my personal experience (PLEASE READ THAT DISCLAIMER!) I found this to be 100% true! Graduated from a very expensive/prestigious undergrad school and took the equivalent of nursing pre-reqs with med school students who all had high hopes of getting into Ivy League med schools. I was pre-med at the time and those classes were KILLER!! I've never seen so much weeding out in my life! Cut to a couple years after getting my degree, and after a hiatus overseas, went to my local community college and it was almost the complete opposite experience. The teachers were way more lenient, material wasn't 100% easy but not nearly as difficult/ challenging as my undergrad and the cheating was a pandemic!! I will say that when I was a premed, because of the negative reputations of CCs (how easy they are and cheating), I was advised (by med school reps) to steer clear from taking any pre-med classes at CCs. I was advised this because Med schools weigh classes taken at 4 year universities higher than those taken at a CC, because they want to know you were as challenged academically as possible. When I made the switch to nursing I expected nursing school to have the same mentality and was honestly disappointed when I found out that an A is an A no mater where you took the class, because I knew I didn't have to work as hard as I did in undergrad to get good grades (had wayyy ewer sleepless study sessions) and way too many people cheated their way to the ADN program. This isn't to discredit people who have gone to CC or decide to go there for financial reasons, this is just my personal experience as well as my opinion. It could just be my local CC sucks but I got into my first choice MSN program so I don't care anymore! I'm very fortunate that I was extremely challenged and learned many excellent skills in my undergrad.
