Hasn't been any activity on here in a while but if anyone would like to give me some advice I would appreciate it. I'm a new nurse just graduated in December with my BSN working on an oncology unit. My goal is to become a nurse practitioner at Duke so I have a few questions. How is the program? What gpa did you have to get in. Is it true they pay up to 90% of you going back to school ? Are you part time or full? After I have one year of nursing I want to apply to duke to work there as a nurse and hopefully start school Spring 16.

Thanks for reading and if you are like myself then you feel like you know everything already, but my biggest issue was knowing how to answer the questions. NCLEX is not very med surg based it is mostly about safety! I did Hurst online so I can watch videos and stuff whenever I wanted which was good so I watched maybe like 3 videos a day and did questions. They also have 6 practice test at the end 125 questions a piece that were very helpful. I would schedule it as soon as available because you know this information you just have to practice answering questions. Hurst was $300 for the online portion, but I heard there is something on the NCSBN website that people use that is less than $100 so give that a try. Good luck!

The longer you wait the more anxious you will become so get it over with and go in knowing that you will pass!

Thanks for replying and thinking about the 45 day wait is horrible, but it comes faster than you would think! Definitely a learning experience, but a good one!

For those who may have failed NCLEX the first time. STOP BEING DEPRESSED! I failed my first time and was upset, but kept telling myself that I was not the first person to fail and I won't be the last. I took the earliest test date available after 45 days and passed the second time around! Come up with a study plan for yourself and get back to it. Don't let it get you down if you failed once just take a week break from studying and get right back to it, but with a different mindset that you know what to expect next time. I usually studied about 3 hours a day or every other day; try not to drain yourself Focus on priority, safety, infection control and select all that apply questions! Use the true or false strategy IT WORKS!!!! DO QUESTIONS 50 a day max! Cover up the answer options when answering questions and look at them ONE BY ONE Remember to not over do it when studying and don't study the day before I did HURST review the second time around and really believe it helped. This is my first post so I just wanted to share a couple things that helped me. Good luck and don't give up! Remember to PRAY.

I was considering Clinical Nurse Specialist once I get some experience, but I'm not sure of the job outlook. I feel as if Nurse Practitioner will eventually take that job away, but it was listed as the second top USA job somewhere I read.
