18 when I started prerequisites, started the nursing program at 20. Became and LPN on my 22nd birthday and finished my RN program in the same year.

Hello everyone! I am beginning my RN program in just another month! I have been waiting for this time and I cannot wait to begin! I know nursing school is incredibly challenging. It takes dedication, passion, and a lot of hard work to succeed. Any grads or current students have any tips for success? Ways of studying that worked best for you? No matter what your learning style, I am interested in hearing from you. Thanks in advance. :)

Thank you for your response, I appreciate it! Unfortunately, I live in a very rural area, and the nearest NICU or PICU is 1.5 hours away. If I was closer I wpuld have applied long ago. :)

Hello everybody! I am a nursing student working as a CNA and wanted some insight on my job experience. I hope to get into a nurse residency program at a Children's hospital after graduation, and hope to eventually end up in the NICU. I eventually want to advance to become am NNP as well. I currently work as a CNA at a long term care facility for children (birth to 21) who are medically fragile and/or developmentally disabled. I care for children with g-tubes, trachs, ventilators, seizure disorders, and more. I think my job experience thus far is wonderful, but I am wondering if it would be beneficial for me to get CNA experience in a hospital setting. I tried for ICU and nothing ever came of it, but there are many open med. surg positions at my local hospital. Which would make me more attractive to NICU employers? Or PICU for that matter? Should I stay in my peds setting or try to do both? Thank you in advance for all your help!

Lost my dad to cancer when I was 15, and during that time he received at home hospice care. His nurse said to me when I was caring for him one day, "You're going to be a nurse someday, aren't you?" and it clicked. I paid close attention to the care she gave and was so inspired that I started volunteering and took an LNA course last year. Those clinical experiences inspired me even more, so off for my BSN in the fall! :)

Started my LNA course when I was 17, and the oldest person in my class was a 42 year old man looking for a change of career! And we had everyone in between. :) Same guy is going for his RN now, and I'm starting a BSN program at age 18 in the fall! Nursing is for anyone, of any age, with a true dedication and passion for patient care.
