  1. Corrections is a great job. But you have to go into it and know yourself. the inmates have 24/7 to think of ways to get to you or even get you in trouble. They are very smart at this. My experience is no they are not in restraints all the time. and some of the officers are not good and will put you in danger. but that is when you must stand up for yourself and confront the officers. they are there to protect you. go for it Don't be a Nancy Nurse , be a nurse to provide only care the inmates need
  2. LPN's and LVN's are nurses. I have been an LPN for 20 years. We have to pay our so called dues and we have to stay on top of all the newest topics. We have to do what we love and I love being an LPN. When someone ask what I do for a living I tell the I AM AN LPN, I AM THE DON OF A 60 BED ASSISTED LIVING AND I HAVE BEEN AN LPN FOR 20 YEARS. YOU GO GIRL BE A GREAT LVN
  3. It is scarey Huh and when you are left alone to deal with things . I know the feeling been there done that. Sounds like ya did great tho. Feel proud of yourself .
  4. Here in Ohioi they are thinking and planning to do the same aides passing medications. SCAREY!!!!!! I work assisted living and the company I work for tried this 2 years ago. thing is aides can not pass medications to pts with dementia or Alz disease. they can only pass to pts in their right mind and in my building that is NONE. I agree we al went to school to learn about medications and the effects on pts. And if the aides start passing meds we are responsible for their mistakes NOT ME I am not going to do that . not with the aides I have VOTE NO
  5. I worked lock down psych for about 5 years and I had a female resident of the age of late 20's go into the shower room run the w/p full of COLD water get in the chair and lower it down in the water. she had her legs wrpped in the back of the chair and she placed her head on the drain,An aide found her , called me I pulled her out of the w/p and if I had not cracked the back of her head on the floor she would of died SCAREY!!!!!!!!!Some people do not have s/s , They just do it
  6. I work assisted living . My assisted living is not a social model, is is a medical model. I care for 60 residents . Medications , Tx. and anything else they may need.
  7. Hey there LPN , go for it and ya don't have to lose that Nancy Nurse thing because I am a Nancy and I am a Nurse I worked max , death row for a few years and it was great . the one thing ya need to keep in mind is . they are there for a reason, they broke the law. and you are there to give medical attentioin. Not to be their friend but to be a nurse . Going in the very first day ya have to set your own ground rules . ( I am here to do a job, as a nurse) and if given a chance most of the inmates will hurt ya, not as fast as the C.O.'s but they can and will if ya let your gaurd down. never go without a C.O. and always listen to what the C.O. says . Keep your distance and keep your head up. Be prof and trerat them with respect for they are people even tho they brole the law. It is a great job and alot of satrange things happen and Hve fun I did

  10. from a nurse of 20 years Keep on giving her report just as you have. cont to be a good nurse and care about you pts. Do you have a superviser over you and the other nurse ?? if so speak to the superviser. If not take the rude , uninterested nurse to a quite place and confront her. some people are just that way but they should not be in the field of nursing I would also make sure that all reports you give that nurse you have a written copy of , just in case you ever need it . Good Luck
  11. From Ohio , LPN HCC RD work assisted living , frail elderly 44 residents at this time no tech's do nursing and directers and DON duties
  12. I work Monday thru Friday. I am on call evey weekend and in the eveings I Manage an Assisted Living with 42 apts. I am an LPN, Residents Director , Healthcare Coordinator. And no I don't get BIG BUCKS
  13. Ohio need to have other nurse to talk with on line I am from Mansfield Nurse for 20 years ( LPN ) experience : LTC, Skilled , Lock soen psych, corrections , home halth and now Assisted living
  14. when you find that school would you please let me know I am running in to the same problems
  15. First off if you care about the resident and your are a good nurse , then you need to put all this in writting and give a copy to your DON. Then you need to start writting the aides up. Remember it takes 3 write up before you can fire someone . Make sure you have thr PROOF and doc it in writting with date and time so you can refer to it . if this does not do any good then call your state board of nursing and the ombudsman .do you work for a company or a private nursing home ??? If it is a company then go over the DON's head. She needs to be out of there if she is going to let that stuff go on . And you MUST think about yourself if you allow this to go on and you are on duty then you can also be charged with neglect. SO YOU HAVE TO STAND UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT . Good luck from a 20 year experience nurse in Ohio
